The guy who operates the B&B we stayed at this weekend did IMLP in 2003 in some horrible weather. He said he hit 40 mph on the downhills but in serious winds and rain that made him pedal all the way down. Wind is a much harder ride. Find bryancd's RR from IMSG a year or so ago. He had some horrible winds to contend with but posted a lot of tips on dealing with it. Think he had a good thread on his tips too--just prior to his being banned |

I think I'll just post "What NyNy said" from now on Choice is good. I have serious problems with anybody not having genuine choices--to the point where it annoys me that men in developed countries genuinely do not have the choice to wear (appropriately neat and modest) what's considered women's business attire. Obviously it's worse in countries where women barely qualify for personhood. If even barely. That said, yeah, I really do want anyone to have nice, durable, functional modesty clothing in sports if that's what they want and there sure is a market for it here. |

A listing of Manatee Races, Rides and Runs and other events June 14-15 Hope Randee had a speedy race this morning. Judi, Monica and Tom...GO, GO, GO! HOORAY!!! Well I'd call my swim a success!! I have a RR up but here's the summary: I need to learn to swim straight LOL If my Garmin was right then I'm thrilled with my pace but not so much with the extra distance I swam. The start was really cool too - within each wave (after elites), they sent off 3 swimmers every 10 seconds. It was totally calm and laid back. Perfect for me. I started (mostly) alone and swam (mostly) alone with no one to swim over me or bump into me (there was a little but nothing like a mass start). Today is back to reality and back to work. I found Judi's RR - Awesome work. I'm watching for the rest of you!!! I'm sitting here getting my oil changed with nothing to do so get me something to read ![]() Have a great day all! |

![]() | ![]() Great job out there, racing and practicing-to-be-racing manatees! Ben rocked his AG and race (I cannot even fathom being 5th OA in a race, just wow), Judi PRed her swim, Randee had a solid race (TT swim starts are sooo nice!) and Kirsten battled some nasty, nasty winds but persevered and got 'er done. We manatees are a tough lot! Edited by melbo55 2014-06-16 9:06 AM |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Geez o' Pete, I always have SO much to catch up on come Monday morning! Darren: Wow... talk about lost in translation?? Jonathan: Glad you conquered your fear and not only tried yoga, but also found out that you really liked it! I hope it helps with the IT band issues Mary: YAYYYY!!! New bikes are all kinds of awesome, especially when it's being built for you! Hands: I think the mannequin has the goggles on to practice T1? Judi: GREAT job with the race, and congrats on the swim PR! Kirsten: Daaaaaaaang. I know all about the hills on the S2S up to Whistler, but I really didn't think about the wind... Yowza! Way to get the ride done, and it's great that you're going to be going back to ride it several times before the race. You're going to do GREAT! Jo: I can't tell you how much I love that you have a tristalker blog! It's going to get added to my list of blogs to check out Ben: Firstly HUGE congrats on your 2nd AG and 5th OA, you are SOOOOOO speedy! Of course I have a western accent, I'm from western Canada. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by melbo55 Monica, how did you do? Welllll... Unfortunately I tweaked my back on Saturday swapping out the wheels on my bike which left me lying flat on my back on the floor and cursing up a storm to the point the cats were hiding under the bed scared at whatever angry demon had possessed my vocabulary. I decided (probably unwisely, but no one's ever accused me of being wise) that we'd go to the race anyways and see what race-day brought as we'd already registered, paid for the hotel room and the rental car. Race morning comes and I had 5 Aleve to try and get the pain to subside... which didn't quite work. It wasn't quite the day I had hoped for... every pull with my right arm during the swim was agony, which meant I didn't rotate very well and ended up drinking a LOT of icky lake water, and aero was a miserable place to be. HOWEVER, it was a gorgeous (if ridiculously windy) day, I finished with a smile on my face & I was super stoked to see that I had run just over 9 minute miles for the run! There will be no working out today. |

The second bolded section, however, does support that proposition or maybe (since who would be smiling after all that) reinforces the other proposition. It's a puzzlement Still, I'm sorry about your back! Good luck with your 125th interview and knock Janyne dead! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by laffinrock Have had such an amazing day today, I just have to share. I did my first OWS ever and it went beautifully. Water was calm, weather was nice, I got to swim by myself (other people were there, just not around me), wetsuit fit well, and I didn't panic once. I can't wait to go again!! Then I went to a LBS I just discovered to talk about what to look for when shopping for a used steel frame to build out. Got some details, then went to a local non-profit that takes donated bikes and resells them, as well as having fix-it classes, a earn-a-bike program for kids, and a workshop that's open for public use. Found a frame there that fit all the parameters I had just discussed at the other shop. Paid $25 for a steel Trek 900 frame built in Taiwan and should be able to get it set up with mid-grade components for $500-600. I had been budgeting $1,500 for a new bike as a step up from my junker so to be able to get a decent bike for that kind of price thrills me to pieces!! Plus I probably won't have to pay the $175 for a professional fit because the owner of the shop builds custom steel bikes and really believes that "optimal" fit is "comfort" and will do whatever is needed to get the bike comfortable as part of the build-out price. I totally wasn't expecting to find a frame today. I was thinking it would take a couple of months of haunting the non-profit shop and Craig's List but I hit the jackpot the first time!! To say that I'm excited is a complete understatement!! (if you can't tell by all my exclamation points Glad it was a good OWS experience for you! It is a well run system. Equally as important, what did you have a NoNos? Yay on the bike!!!!!!!! |

It was so gratifying to have such a "life is good" kind of day. I'm so grateful every day that I've gotten my life back and days like this just confirm that all the hard work has been worth it. |
