Swim
Comments: Seeded myself at the front, hooked on to the fast feet like I wanted. Was in the front of the pack, then I decided I was going too slow, so I moved off and around the feet I was following. In no mans land for a bit until I caught the wave in front. Really didn't draft much, as I couldn't find anyone going my speed. Navigation went pretty well, stayed on course, didn't have to fight traffic too much. Time is estimated for now, could be faster. I hit lap button after T1 and it was 23:49. Figure transition took about a minute. What would you do differently?: Not much. I'm happy with how I swam. I felt like I pushed it. Maybe could have gone a little harder, but eh, you gotta save something for the bike and the run. :) Transition 1
Comments: Forgot to undo velcro straps on my shoes. I realized this as I was jumping on the bike. So I had to undo them on the bike to get my feet in. Oops! Short transition area, so this was really fast. What would you do differently?: Undo velcro straps on my shoes. :) Bike
Comments: Kept good pace. Legs were not fully rested, and I could feel it towards the end of the bike and on the hills. Nice course though. It was a fun ride. Transition 2
Comments: Coming off the bike into T1 I flew. Hopped off and ran ( ran, not jogged! ) with the bike. Put on socks, shoes, runnning hat, and race belt and I was off. What would you do differently?: Learn to run sockless, but eh, it works for me. Run
Comments: Wow. Since I didn't taper, my legs were hurtin'. Played a good mental game to keep myself pushing hard. Kept HR over 160, hovered around 162 most of the time. Pushed up there on some of the uphills. Just kept moving, focused on form, and making sure I watched out for the little obstacles that trail running brings. Finished strong the last mile plus. I think I heard someone cheering at the finish ( "go chris!" ), but I dunno. I was in my own little zone at that point. This run was also the first time I passed people in my AG. Woo! I'm really getting better at the run. I'm very happy with that, and feeling confident for Racine. What would you do differently?: Taper. :) ( but it's not my a-race, so I'm not too worried ) Post race
Warm down: Chug a bottle of ice cold water. Energice. More water. Met up with Steve- and Brett ( who finished before me ). Chow down a big honking plate of spaghetti, eat a banana. More water. Stretched really good. Then got back into transition and had my Endurox. Ahhhhhhhhh. :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Taper. But, it wasn't an A-race, so I'm not worried. Event comments: It was a little disorganized, started late, and there were some timing delays at the awards ceremony, but it's not a huge race, so don't expect a massive organization putting it on. *Lots* of volunteers though, and good support during the race. It was a good race, good fun, and I'd do it again despite the organizational mishaps. :) I missed 3rd place in my AG by about a minute. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Next year I'll be back and we'll see. :) This was a new PR for me, by about 8 minutes over St. Anthony's 2 months ago. SHAZZAM! :D Last updated: 2005-05-13 12:00 AM

Age Group Rank = 7/19
Woke up at 5. Fussed about getting ready. 1 cup coffee, banana, clif bar.
Drove a block over to meet my coach at his B&B, drove over to the race site. Met up with Steve- at the race.
A little disorganized is a nice way to say it. 2 body markers for the entire crowd. Line was *long*. So we skipped it. Turns out the forgot to give out bike numbers to about 1/2 the field so we had to pick those up and attach them to our bikes that morning.
Got transition area setup, had to move bike, as they decided I was in the wrong rack ( Hint: if you have an organization plan, try TELLING people ).
Shot of gel about 20 min before.
Got in water, did a couple quick pickups to get the arms moving and blood flowing before my wave. Wasn't time/room to do much more.
