go anywhere in the world, cost not an issue, to bike for one week, where would you go?  Where have you been that was beyond your expectations?

my thoughts would be Italy, thought not sure where....Maybe even Switzerland......

some day I envision a nice, easy trip with my wife to someplace like that....cycling and viewing the country at our own pace

I haven’t traveled a whole lot, so I would probably go just about anywhere. But I would only go if my father in law where to come with me. (I would ask my husband but I know better Tongue out)

My husband and I rented an apartment outside Siena, Italy (in Tuscany) for two weeks last September (honeymoon!) and we rented bikes for that period. We stayed at a beautiful farm, with a fully equipped apartment, in the "traditional" Tuscan style, and would go for a ride pretty much every day to a neighboring town and explore the countryside. I wanted a place that was relatively close to a lot of interesting cities/sights, but enough in the countryside that it was easy to get out and ride. Siena was perfect! (And the apartment we rented was only 65 euros a night - by far the cheapest place we stayed, and the nicest, too.

We rented very nice Wilier road bikes there (it was too much trouble/money to bring our own) and stayed on the roads, although you can cycle the "Strada Bianca" (gravel roads all over the countryside - better for mountain/hybrid bikes) as well. The scenery was AMAZING, we felt very safe cycling there, and got to see a lot more than I think typical tourists would... although Tuscany is very hilly, so it was tough at times! But overall it was a wonderful trip. We are already talking about going back and doing it all again for our 5-year anniversary. We also want to do cycling trips in Belgium/Frace and Germany. I imagine those would be pretty great as well. Feel free to PM me if you ever want specific info on cycling in Italy.

I have a freind who leaves next week for France, they will ride like the last ten stages of the TdF, I think riding ahead of the peleton. He did say specifically the plan includes a ride to the top of Ventoux where they'll watch the tour pass, then ride down.

Parts of the Giro d'Italia were gorgeous but would only ride some of those rodes if closed to traffic. When we were in Rome last year, I could not believe how people there drove. Scared the wits out of me.

Stages of the Tour d'France would be cool too just to feel the cycling history on those roads.

New Zealand.  You can make the ride as tough or as simple as  you'd like.  You don't need to learn another language to feel comfortable.  The site seeing is beyond words.

X3.  No question.  I was going to throw down a detailed description in my post, but Tripolar saved me the trouble.

I'm planning this trip, it's a few years off.

Friday, fly into Brussels

Sat, ride cyclosportif version of the Tour of Flanders

Sun, watch the Tour of Flanders in a couple of different places along the course

Mon, ride somewhere in Flanders

Tues, ride the last 80km or so of the Gent Wevelgem course

Wed, watch the Gent Wevelgem race in a couple of spots

Thu, ride portions of the Liege-Bastogne-Liege course

Fri, ride around Amsterdam on a clunky city bike, or somewhere in Germany

Sat, ride the last 100km of the Paris-Roubaix course

Sun, watch Paris-Roubaix somewhere on the course, Le Carrefour or Arenberg

Mon, fly home
