Subject: RE: Longest marathon recovery ever!I'm so glad to hear that your are doing well after surgery and in good spirits. If you want some inspiration, I broke my back in two places 2.5 years ago (L1 and L2 ). I slipped and fell down stairs coming home from a swim meet (I know I'm a klutz ). When it happened, I could not walk, but could wiggle my toes. I was in the hospital for over a week and was not able to walk without help for another 4 (at the time I lived in a 4th floor walk up ) so needless to say I didn't get out much! After about 3 months I was able to start swimming again (sans flip turns and butterfly because that hurt too much ) and about 2 months after that I started training for my first tri....which I successfully completed 7 months after the accident.
It may seem like an eternity till your able to compete again, but I'm sure this event will only make you stronger. Plus, you'll likely be able to swim before you can run and bike...so it's a great chance to master that aspect of the tri while on your road to recovery.
Best of luck!!! |
