Resident Curmudgeon  25290    The Road Back Gold member |  Subject: Is Everyone Working Today?Our area has such a large Catholic population that Good Friday is like a national holiday here. I'm at work because the bank is open half the day because the Federal Reserve is open, but it was like a ghost town driving in this morning. Is it like this around the country? Got to the pool this morning as usual and instead of rushing to grab a lane, I was the only one there (besides the lifeguard) for the first 15min. It was really weird. Oh, Happy Easter from me too! I'm going to try and leave early though - I'm just not feeling too motivated today!! We used to have a schedule with every other Friday off (9 hour days), but they took that away, so everyone just sits around and acts cranky every Friday now. Especially today since half the country gets the day off... |

Work day here for me as well... while I love the company I work for, the holiday policy (6 holidays a year) , vacation time policy (the max EVER is only 3 weeks) and personal day policy (which includes sick days and you only get 5 a year) really sucks. But - if that's the worst thing about this place... then I think I have it pretty good. |

Here in Massachusetts, we also get Patriots Day, which is the third monday in April. It's the day when "the shot heard 'round the world" was fired at the battle of Lexington and Concord. Parades, cool reinactments, including the capture of Paul Revere. Oh yeah, it's also the day of the Boston Marathon. |

BUT, I took the day off to go pick up my bike and ride some (my bike is such a lurvly easter color). Wouldn't you know it, we've had severe thunderstorms. Its a "floating holiday" today, so the office isn't closed, but a lot of folks take it off. Of course, since we only get two floating holidays, I have to use them in the fall for the Jewish holidays. So I'm here and its lonely and I'm trying to find someone to take a nice leisurely lunch with me, and then I'll probably leave a bit early. I've gotten one business-related phone call today. If I get another one I'll be very surprised. |
