what socks do you wear during winter running(Canadian winter) :)

WOOL!  I love my Smartwool socks.  I use different types for running and skiing but I won't do winter outdoor things without them.  I have completely soaked my toes in snow while running and they stayed warm.  Cotton is horrid for staying warm once they get wet.  I wear the women's version of these:

I just wear thin ski socks when I run in the winter, Hot Chillies usually. I can honestly say that my feet have never been cold when out for a winter run. I draw the line at about -25C though..........not for my feet, but my silly asthmatic lungs.

Hot Chillies are what I use too - though thankfully it doesn't get that cold in Vancouver... I'm just a wimp when it comes to being cold. 

I think 'Sconnie winters are close to Canadian winters - I use "Darn Tough" and LOF 'em.  They're comfortable and have kept my feet decently warm during my cold runs.

Not a Canuck, but below about 35 degrees (F that is!, so like around 0 for you) I wear Smart Wool.  I know they say Smart Wool is supposed to be good for hot or cold, but at least the ones I have (they are running specific) are too hot to wear above that.  I've worn them down to near 0 and they are good. 

I use regular athletic socks.  They're fine for -10 to -15C.

X3 on the SmartWool socks. I lived in Alaska for five years and some good friends of mine from Alaska sent my three pairs last year (I live in Ohio now). They're brilliant. I trompsed through mounds of snow last winter and my feet never got cold. They're not cheap like $15-$20 a pair but I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Another vote for Smartwool socks.  Unless it gets really cold (like -20 or less) I just use the lighter cushion ones and it's fine.  The only time my feet get cold is if they also get wet.

DeFeet - best brand of wool socks I've come across so far.

I use smart wool year round. Never cared much about socks until I tried some smart wool ones, now I'm a little bit of a sock snob.

I wear thicker smartwool hiking socks in the winter. For running they are plenty warm down to +10f at which point I turn into a pansy and run on a treadmill. Another bonus, if I manage to find the puddles, after the initial shock, the wool socks will stay warm.

For riding, I can mountain bike or rail trail ride in my warmer shoes and the same smartwool hiking socks down to the mid 20s. I don't road ride much below 45.

Oh, and cotton, never.

ETA: I wear wool year round. I've given up on synthetics. They are no where near as comfortable as wool. My summer cycling and running socks are very then. IF it's warm enough for my feet to overheat, I'll be sweating buckets anyway and won't notice warm feet.

I have some wool cycling sock that come up just high enough to reach the bottom of my tights. Those are my favorites.

Smartwool socks for me too.  For running and cycling in cold weather.  On the bike I add shoe covers especially if it's windy.

Another smartwool wearer in winter here in MN.  They are non-itchy, non-piling and hold their shape well.

I love the SmartWool socks in the winter.  I wear them all the time - especially when I'm visiting family in the Midwest.  They are great.

Keep an eye on www.steepandcheap.com for deals on Smartwool.  It's where I've gotten the majority of the Smartwool that I own.  I also have a pair of Keen wool socks that I got as a give away that I like as well but I don't see deals on them ever. 

Yikes, definitely not cotton. Your feet'll freeze if cotton socks get wet from snow or sweat. My favourite for winter running are some kind of wicking wool blend, they're compression socks that come up only to the lower calf. Definitely want something to cover that gap between the running tights and the shoes.

Ditto for winter running this is my brand as well, but in the summer I use Drymax 1/4 trails
