Subject: RE: what socks do you wear during winter running(Canadian winter) :)Cotton never. never.
I wear thicker smartwool hiking socks in the winter. For running they are plenty warm down to +10f at which point I turn into a pansy and run on a treadmill. Another bonus, if I manage to find the puddles, after the initial shock, the wool socks will stay warm.
For riding, I can mountain bike or rail trail ride in my warmer shoes and the same smartwool hiking socks down to the mid 20s. I don't road ride much below 45.
Oh, and cotton, never.
ETA: I wear wool year round. I've given up on synthetics. They are no where near as comfortable as wool. My summer cycling and running socks are very then. IF it's warm enough for my feet to overheat, I'll be sweating buckets anyway and won't notice warm feet. Edited by graceful_dave 2010-11-07 10:01 PM
