 Online or Offline |  Subject: How often do you race?Just wondering how many races all us BTers plan on doing this season? Just this first one to see if you like the sport? Did you pick one a month? One spring, one summer, one early fall? Train for one big event then see how it goes for the rest of the season? One short, one long, one short, one long? As many as you can sign up for before your spouse noticed and started yelling?  Already completed a couple this year? Lets hear it! |

I really think I'll be hooked after #1 though. Kind of optimistic and going for the olympic distance first, but what are you gonna do? Can't wait! |

Go ahead and start with the oly -- if you are considering it, you can do it. I tried a mini late last year, liked triathlon enough to decide I'd start doing them this year. Due to logistics, I did an olympic to start this season, and now plan on keeping that distance as my "starting" first season distance goals. Maybe if I heard someone say I shouldn't or couldn't do an oly for my first "official" race, maybe I'd have been apprehensive. No one said I couldn't so I just did. FILL IT OUT! GO GO GO |

Then I do all the local races except two of the three rough water ocean swim triathlons (I force myself to get in the ocean and become shark bait at least once in a season). Then I do one triathlon outside of San Diego so I get to travel a little and see other races and cities. I am on the Degree Ironman Triathlon team so I am obligated to do 6 endurance races a year. This year I am doing Ralph's Half Ironman- Half IM-April Spring Sprint- Sprint-May San Diego International- International- June Solana Beach(Ocean)-Sprint- August Lake Arrowhead-Sprint- August Mission Bay-Sprint - October San Diego Triathlon Challenge-Half IM- October Edited by madcow 2004-07-20 6:23 PM |

This is only periferally related, but MadCow, my coworker's roommate won the Degree "everyday ironman" competition, are the winners of that contest training with you? Tri is a small world! I'm doing my first tri on Sunday, and another (oly) at the end of september. I plan to do 4-5 next season. |

This is my first year and Ive done 4 sprints, 2 Olympic, and 1 relay leg so far....still have 2 sprints and 3 Olympic distance to go(including the USAT national age group championship which I somehow miraculously qualified for...I am by no definition fast)...hope to end the year with my first marathon! I love training and racing. Next year I will probably do about the same number of races but hope a couple will be 1/2 ironman. |

So far, I have done one each month in May, June, and July, and plan on doing two more, one in August and the last in September. The last triathlon, although a sprint, will feature a 30 Km bike leg instead of 20. I had hoped to do the 1/2 IM tri at that time, but that will have to wait until next year. |

If I like the sprint tri, there is another one very close to home in mid-August, so if dear husband agrees, I may do that one, too. So I run maybe one competition a month in the summer. That's enough! |

I wish I had the stamina to race every week. But the way I look at it is that I'm constantly in training for whatever race may come up. It was mostly longer races 15K or above, but there were a few 5K's. Spring and fall had really important races, so I didn't run as much, but in the summer I entered lots of them just for fun. Now I'm shooting for 1 triathlon (my first), and 70 miles in running races (so far I've finished 9.3 of those...eek). Next year, when I'm not as poor, I want to enter more non-running events. -dave |

Completed: - Two 5ks - One 10k - One Road Bike Race (30 mi) - One Mtn. Bike Race (18mi) - One Duathlon - One Sprint Triathlon - One Special Olympics fundraiser (Torch Run) done in Run/bike format. Coming Up: - 1/2 or Full Bike Century (July) - 1/2 Marathon (August) - 25 mi. Road Bike Race (August) Hope to do: - One more Sprint Triathlon (August) - One more Duathlon (September) Type of races was determined by what is offered in my area, and the Chief asking me to compete in Law Enforcement games (no tris there.) No complaints from my wife; she's participated in most of the races with me. |

There are a few of us Degree team members out here in San Diego, but I think I did see the 2 Everyday Ironpeople training together along the coast 2 weeks ago. Chucky: shoot me a PM in a week or so. I plan on continuing at a one a month pace until October. I will probably toss in a few road races (5 to 10 K's) as training runs as well. Bill |

July 24 Sprint and Ocean Mile swim Ft Myers August 14 Sprint (Key Largo but maybe clermont) Sept. 3 Sprint Asheville NC October 10 Oly Miami I saw a half Ironman in late October Im interested in but I am NOT doing that on a mountain bike. My first tri will be Windsor Tri (any Coloradoans doing this one?) on Sept 5. Then I think I may do one in late September near Montrose, CO (I think it's called Black Canyon Tri or something) near where my parents live. I thought that would make a nice weekend.... :-) Both are sprints. Next season I will hopefully do as many as my pocketbook will allow. |

Road races I've done a lot of. We were doing them every weekend for awhile. I might do another one this upcoming weekend, although I'm booked up with marathon training and two concerts, so we'll see. |
