Subject: Change of courseI'm stepping away from triathlon for a while. Ever since IMFL, I've been at sort of a loss as to what to do next. I have been thoroughly unexcited about training from more triathlons because, at least at this point, I'm pretty satisfied with what I've accomplished. I've had a pretty long history of needing new challenges. Here's my athletic history since college: - '93-'95: sprint triathlon/running/masters swimming
- '96-'98: mountain biking/masters swimming
- '99-'02: sprint triathlon, a little running, a little road cycling
- '02-'07:marathon/HIM--IM triathlon
So call me Mr. Short Attention Span. Every couple of years, i get the itch to try something new (or at least to go back to something I've grown to miss). So now it's that time again. For the foreseeable future, it's going to be swimming and cyclocross. I'm going to (attempt at least) to get back in good swimming shape with the goal of swimming well at the '08 USMS Nationals in Austin next April. And as far as cyclocross goes, it's something that I've always wanted to do. I've always had good technical MTB skills (I raced Expert class back in CA), so I think it's something I can do well at. The Georgia Cross series kicks off in October, and I'm planning on competing. So that's it--I (finally) have a plan. I'll still be running a bit (I'll need to in order to be in good CX shape--especially since I'll be racing single-speed), and I won't rule out a sprint tri here and there (especially if I can race fixed-gear). But for now at least, I'm officially hanging up my multisport hat. Don't count on my CoJ presence to change, though. |
