I wanna hear about some smokin' times.  What is the fastest you have ever run a given distance that you are proud of?   This can be when you were younger or currently.

 I was a mediocre HS track guy 12 years ago.  Did mid distances.   Best times in H.S. were:

  • 400m - 51 seconds
  • 800m - 2:23
  • mile - 5:14

In my current life I haven't done more than 5k.  record is 25:40.   I can do a sub 7 min mile, but that 5:14 from age 16 is looking hard to catch.

I ran a 8:53 beer mile.  Consist of chucking 1 beer then sprinting a 1/4 mile (w/o puking) and repeating 3 more times.  Hope to go sub 8:30 next time.  Other than that I am slow.

I was strictly a half-mile specialist in HS track (30 yrs ago)--PR was, IIRC, about 2:10...I was mediocre to say the least and really only our #3 half-miler. Sucked hard at the mile and in XC...struggled to break 6 min. and 19:45 (3 mi.) respectively. After not running at all from 1993-2004, I'm prouder of the ~5:50 mile I ran in a 4x1 mile relay event a year ago than anything I ran back in the day. (Pretty happy with my :20:31 5K PR in June, too, actually.)

Since we can go back to HS!!

I ran a 2:06 1/2 mile in football practice

and I ran a  5:08 opening mile in a cross country race once (took that out way too fast)  and an 18:02 5k (different race)

As for now...

I did a 1:20 - 400     a  22:30  5k    a 48:30  10 k and a 1:55:07 Half Mary  (the last three were all run portions of Tri's)

Well, since I was a sprinter in HS and college, and didn't run farther that 400m unless something big and hairy was chasing me, I don't have many distance times from back in the day.  I did run a 10.8 100m and a 54 second 400m (4 x 400 split).  The only mile I ran for time back then was for our football fitness test.  After I had run 6 x 40 yard sprints for time I ran a 5:45 mile.  Nowdays I'm old and slow!  5K PR is 22:12 and 10K is 46:05.

This being beginnertriathlete.com, let's allow "smokin'" to be a relative term. Below is my log entry from my personal best 10K, which I did with another BTer pacing me, on November 30, 2006. I'm still proud of it:

YES! My goal was to finish in 11:15mms, which I thought was ambitious. With TXLuke pacing me, we finished in UNDER 11's - wow!

First 5K took 35:30, second 5K 32:20, pushing it. This means I averaged better than 10:30s for the second 5K.

It was COLD and WINDY out there - not too many people on the trail, and, um, invigorating!

10K RUN GOAL: 1:09:45

10K RUN ACTUAL: 1:07:50

BOOYAH!

That was FUN!

In high school I ran track and cross country. That would be a very long time ago... 1978-81. I ran the 880, mile and 2 mile in track and even took a go at a steeple chase one year. My fastest mile was a 4:40. I can never ever even dream of being anywhere near that fast now.

You certainly must be getting old flyboy with a 46min 10K!  Still, it beats the heck out of me.  I used to run a 10K in 45 minutes or so but these days it usually takes me 1hr10 or so.  My best run in 20 years was achieved in Montreal a month ago where I ran the 10K in 58:54!  Of course all those pretty young French girls gave me that added incentive to puff out my chest and run just a bit faster ...

Man, I WISH I had some of my HS anc college speed now...

Best in HS:

800 - 2:07, in the WORST conditions
400 - 0:56
Mile - 4:25

I did the 2-mile a few times as well, but I don't remember what my times were. I know I hit 9:25 once, but I think that was a meet I jumped into after HS.

Best 10K - 34:36 during my college days. Funny thing was that my tri runs then weren't too much slower than that.

High School track here. .Sprints only

100m - Low 11's
200m - High 22's
400m - 52,53 'ish

All times in those days were handheld. . Nowadays, I wouldn't dare try a flatout 100 or 200; Too much stress on old joints and it would be depressing anyways. I can say confidently that I can still go sub-60 secs in a 400. I'm currently a 21' 5k runner but I think I can get faster.

Never ran in High School- literally!!

But I'm really happy with my 17:31 5km this year at age 32.

Now, if I could just shave off 32 seconds!!!

Alot of stuff I've never ran falt out, which sucks. I need to show up to some open track meets this year.

Seeing as I started running just a couple years ago, maybe 2 1/2 this is all fairly recent.
Most of these are just goofing off, all the below 2miler atleast. Or during a track work out.
200m: 26s
400m: 58s
800m: 2:18
1200m: 3:56
Mile: 5:21
2 Miler: 11:03
5k: 17:48 ( got to drop this one before year end!)

But like I said all but the 2 miler and 5k aren't all out efforts and the 2 miler wasn't on track. Well maybe that 400m.. that was a big effort.

I ran cross country my sophomore and junior year of high school. My fastest 5k was only 19:36, but I somehow managed a 5:17 mile at the end of the year; just about dead last on my team for the 5k, but the 5th fastest mile. I have a feeling I could have gone faster, but I was just hoping to do it under 6.

Since I started running again back in April for triathlons, I finished my second sprint tri with a 20:34 5k. I am very pleased to be within one minute of my best 5k after biking 13 miles, especially considering my first mile of that 5k was about 7:45.

I was a mediocre miler in high school, went sub-5 several times but never broke 4:50.

As an adult, every distance I raced last year (5K, 10K, and marathon), I set a PR. At age 51, in my seventh year of running.

I'm not fast at all. My fastest 10K was 1:00:44 (just last month) and I'm pretty proud of that. Fastest 1.5 mile was 12:36 and I'm pretty proud of that too. Ha.

I love to reminisce...I was co-captain of the girl's XC and track teams in highschool:

5K: 20:30 <--- senior year
2mi: 12:07 <--- junior year
1mi: 5:36 <-- I was 15, never saw that time again!
800m: 2:38 <---- senior year
400m: 59s <-- senior year, I attribute this to many-many power cleans.

Then I went to college, and stopped competing...Now, 8 years later I'm trying to see if I still have what it takes.

My goal for next season is to break that 5k PR, I recently completed my first sprint tri with a 23:30 5K...lots of work to do!

I was a high school swimmer so I don't have all the 400, 800, etc times.  My 5K has been getting progressively faster this year with a new PR set last weekend of 22:35.

Never ran track outdoors, only one season indoors and I don't remember any of my times.  My best 5k was in Prep. School before college and it was an 18:45.  New one is 18:26 which is 16 years after the other PR.

Oh the days back in high school.......ran track freshman through senior years to keep in shape for soccer. Track was definately my "B" sport back then.

100m = 10.9sec
400m = 50.1sec (never could break 50.0)
1600m= 5:16

Now 14 years later (run portion of triathlons):
5k = 23:12
10K = 50:33

This has me thinking though, I may start doing speed workouts on the track just to see the comparison.

mile- 4:51*
5k- 17:12*
10k- 37:48
half mary- 1:25:44

*on a track, which is definitely faster than a road course. All my times were summer, fall and spring after HS, when I was running 50-60mi a week(do not recommend)...

Luckily, I am only 22! still got plenty of time to bust those.
