Ugh.......I know no one will remember me, but I was here and full of enthusiasm back in the spring of 2005. And now, here it is, wrapping up 2007 -- and what happened in-between? NOTHING!! I let life get in the way. Actually I did a sprint and an olympic summer of 2005, but did so badly in each that I felt embarrassed in front of my wife and kids, and for myself! I also did the Seattle-to-Portland bike ride
(206 miles
) in one day
(and ended up with serious male 'plumbing' problems for over a year afterward!! And from there, I let it slip away. I think I ran a half marathon the follwing year
('06
), maybe a couple 5Ks as well......but I stopped 'training' and ......like I said in the beginning, "Ugh!".
So now here I am again, on the cusp of 2008, surprised that I still remembered my login info! My old training data from 2005 is still there. I even recognize many BTer names and I am seriously proud of those who have hung on and succeeded at this challenge called triathlon.
I started running again about 2 months ago and have shaved 10 minutes off my 10K PR. I still weigh too much
(I should lose 50 pounds, from 230 to 180
), but I'm ready to start tracking what I eat again and making better choices. I still have my bike and my trainer....heck, the wetsuit's still hanging in the closet where I last hung it in Aug '05.......I'm getting it all out again and dusting it off.
I met a new friend at work who was a triathlete 20 years ago, and we have decided to work back into it together. This will be a big help -- see, my job has me living overseas and it's very difficult to find that 'group motivation' and training. If I spoke Korean, I'd be golden because there are a LOT of triathletes and pure runners in Korea!
Wish me luck, and I look forward to getting to know all you awesome people again!! This is an incredible site!
