And then the run smashed me!! Bike had 16-22mph winds with gusts up to 32mph! Swim was shortened for safety--they couldn't get enough swim support into the marina from Lake Ponchartain cause of the chop. Super happy with how I handled the swim, and suoer happy with the bike. Not a ton left for the run though! All in all a good day ??

I had a great day yesterday and getting away with some of Team Turtle was exactly what I needed.

Despite the 40km/h wind and the rain I had a great run - beat my HM PB by about a minute and knocked over 30 minutes off my previous best marathon time

E also dropped over 30 minutes off her marathon PB and broke the 4 hour mark, coming 9th overall and 3rd in her age group.

After 15 months of not running because of her medial ligament damage and broken leg Mum was cleared by her physio to run and she finished the 10k.

I'm so very glad you and Team Turtle had a good day and it brought you some respite from the stress and worries in your life.  Big congratulations to you!  Wishing you and Phil the best.

I'm back from Virginia. Kevin and I went up rode on the New River Trail which was fun. We also visited Chateau Morrisette on the way there. It dad surprisingly good wine. We stayed near Blacksburg because we thought with Virigina Tech right there, we would at least have some food options. After our ride, we headed towards Asheville. On the way there, we stopped at one more winery and that was less good but still fun. I think that we both liked the New River Trail better than the Virginia Creeper but bother are nice.

Janyne - New River Trail

Karen - so glad that your run is back! Hang in there, almost to taper!

Stacey - I'm very sorry for your loss and for the yucky family situation. How stressful!

Nancy - I hope the 5k went well. Go greyhound rescue!

Kirsten - Nice race! Sorry to hear about the shortened swim.

Stacey (again) - Woo hoo! I'm glad the race helped! Personal bests for everyone! Go team turtle! And HAPPY BIRTHDAY STACEY!

POL Post:

I'm struggling to get caught up after a week away. I should be able to when I get to the conference tonight. This week is another scheduling mess for me, but it'll get back to some semblance of normal soon enough, I'm sure.

And POL from me as well....
Things have been better. As some of you may recall, my son was diagnosed to be on Autism spectrum earlier this year, and it was plenty of months of trying to figure out how to best help him.
He is doing great, and our lives are being more and more wonderful Stress at work has lowered (finally...!), and I also decided to drop school right now, as it was taking way too much time from me - mostly the time I could (and should) spend with my family. There was not much of training this year, except tons of recreational stuff (hiking, rock climbing, MTB), and when I finally got myself back into running, I injure my feet (plantar F, mild), thus, the race in November is out of the calendar.

Anyways, I am back with plenty of positive energy, and I hope to pass it onto my fellow Manatees I hope everyone has had a nice season, and is ready for some nice Fall colors

Welcome back! I'm glad to hear that your son is doing well and that work stress is under control. I hope that the PF is under control soon.

I'm going to plant an Ironmanatee seed. I start planning my next race while I'm still racing my last race (twisted I know). This year my next race was already planned, so I planned my race after my next race. This could become a really vicious cycle. Anyway, I plan to do IM Mt. Tremblant in 2020. I've been told it's a must race, race. So if anyone if is thinking about it, it would be great to have the first (as far as I know) international manatee meet up in beautiful Quebec.

Just something to think about.

Past IM Louisville participants, what hotel would you stay at near the finish line and why? I saw that Nancy was looking for some feedback so I thought I'd just put it out there since we have a good number of Louisville alumni here.

I'm a 2x Lou alumni, but I prefer to stay away from finish lines. The hype is great for packet pickup and race day, but the other 3-4 days I'm at a race I like to be away from it.

1st year we stayed across the river in Jeffersonville. Much more affordable hotels and a short drive.

2nd year we rented a condo that was 3 blocks from a portion of the run course. When I broke my leg, I was able to crutch-walk to the run course and ultimately to the finish line (all though that was a bit to far on crutches, I was hopped up on pain killers and didn't care).

So, none of that answered the original question, but just in case others wanted an alternate view

i likes the Hyatt right at the finish. As you know, unlike Chattanooga, there is not one hotel that is good for transition/packet pick up and the finish line, so it was a good mile walk from the hotel to transition/ ironman Village, but I was happy to be right there at the finish line  when my race ended. There also seemed to be better dining options in that area. My Sherpa liked the hotel location too.
