Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed Originally posted by brigby1 Had someone at work ask the question of "What's a good bike brand that can ride in all types of conditions for under $500?" Following that up with "What size should I get?" I'm at least 8" taller and opposite in body types. It is a little weird not have that good of answers for someone with bike questions. I read this earlier and had to laugh. Like many folks I get the same questions about computers from co-workers. "Hey, you're in IT, what computer should I get?" So much of that sort of thing is subjective, thus making it hard to answer. But funny to hear, none the less. |

Laura I am so sorry. {{Hugs}} to you. DL is looking better. I'm looking at ultra sign up again to try to get my mojo back. Seems the 8 weeks away race isn't doing it for me. My chiro was trying to talk me in to a sprint tri next weekend. Um, no, I haven't been on my bike or in the pool in MONTHS |

Veteran 1900 Southampton, Ontario | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed Originally posted by StaceyK Originally posted by DaveL I think he was meaning that there is 366 days this year so if you only ride 365 then you need to pick which day for the year you aren't riding Originally posted by brigby1 Originally posted by DaveL This showed up in my Facebook feed so I though I would share. I did my 97th ride this morning (catching up) and have my 98th ride tonight. What's your day off? I can see this question two ways so I will answer it both ways 1. I actually took 3 days off when I went away skiing and we had to take a hotel without a gym so I couldnt bike then. I have been able to catch up on the 3 missed workouts by doing 2 a days. While I wont have biked "every day" I figure that if I can get 366 rides in for the year I am doing pretty good. 2. If you mean that I should take a rest day each week I kind of do by doing an easy 1 hour ride each week. 3. Maybe I completely misread your comment - if so please let me know. Uh, ya I feel a little dumb right now - even more so than usual! |

Go racers! Smile for those cameras!! Laura, I'm so sorry for your Vivaldi. Our fur kids are so important to us all and it hurts so much when we lose one. Many hugs to you. My ear was a bit better yesterday so I decided to do my swim. The only time it hurt was when I did flip turns, so I just started doing open turns. My balance is still off so I can't ride outside, despite that it's 75 right now with little wind. Maybe next weekend I will be able to get out. One thing I've learned from this - if your ear starts feeling weird, don't wait two months when it hurts so bad that it feels like an ice pick is poking through your head. Trust me on that! |

Master 8248 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Closed Laura, so sorry about the loss of your doggy. I've lost many fur children over the years and know what that feels like. I'm sure you gave her a great life full of love and doggy happiness, even if it wasn't as long as you'd hoped. As for the bike under $500, seriously, I have one back in the States. It's a hybrid that I bought (for $250 or $300) off a local bike shop owner. He used it for commuting. Kind of a mishmash of a bike--beat-up Jamis hybrid frame, road tires (can be switched for MTB tires to go off-road), enough gears to go up Everest. It looks crappy enough that I can safely park it downtown on a farmers market run, but I've done 20 km at almost 20 mph on it. Just a great all-around bike, especially as my hometown is hilly and our house is atop one of the steepest in town. (I need most of those gears just to get home from the grocery store--seriously.) Unless they are seriously in the market for a road or tri bike, I'd suggest they look into a secondhand hybrid. Great for entry-level fitness bikers, people who want to do touring, and beginner triathletes, and super-versatile. There is a brand that a lot of the bike tour companies in Asia use called Merida--very reasonable cost, durable, awesome gears. Not sure about availability in the US, though. |
