1731 Denver, Colorado | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Manatee à trois Originally posted by melbo55 Thankfully our house didn't have much storm damage compared to the surrounding area since we had the trees trimmed early this summer. Interestingly, the 2 branches that did come down appeared to have been partially cut by the trimmers but never removed. You could see the even break point. Weird. Our power was only out about 4 hours, thankfully! I really needed to get my bike workout in so I moved my trainer outside to the patio since the roads were in horrible shape with all the storm debris and it was too dark without lights to ride in the house (power was out until around 8 pm). EFP had the generator fired up to test it when I got home so when I told him of my plan he hooked up two fans to the genny so I'd have some cooling and circulation (it was still quite muggy and hot). I had my wireless speaker with me so I had some music to entertain me. I rather liked my setup and would do it again! I'm glad you guys are ok. I first thought that since you have no power, maybe you're using your bike to generate some electricity for the city ;p or at least your home |

They are good bikes. I think you just need to figure out what type of riding you want to do. For me the bike was purchased to do the Paris to Ancaster race so it was pretty clear in my mind what I need to do. My criteria was tire clearance, disc, carbon fork and seatpost and at least 105. For me a lucky break in finding a used TCX SLR2 was perfect to subject to these kind of conditions. Part of the indecision is that I'm looking almost exclusively at Trek as I have a little help there in finding deals. gins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif" alt="" /> Is that you taking a header?! Yikes!! No Not me! I elected to carry around the super nasty stuff in that race. |

I will be coming to this conference every year in the first/second week of August (I will even keep my eye open for any races during that time, because why not making DC trip even more exciting ) I have heard that living there is suuuuper expensive and people usually live in Alexandria and other areas, and just commute to DC. Still, much much more greens and other colors than nasty Chicago..... Mel, when I visited Lincoln Memorial with a group in the afternoon, it was crazy packed.... During my morning rides/runs there was barely anyone I could ask to take a picture of me! It was around 6-6:30 am, so only few other crazy runners, but no tourists Even living in the burbs is pricey. Together J and I make more than the average American income a year.....and we rent a tiny 1 bedroom apartment that regularly loses electricity and plumbing, because that's what we can afford. "Starter" homes in good neighborhoods are around $450k, with "real" houses going for over $1.5 mil on the regular. It's wild! But I love it....I don't know if I really could live anywhere else. |

And such a good attitude about the whole thing....I would have been a whiner for sure. |

1731 Denver, Colorado | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Manatee à trois How do you guys tamper before Oly race? I knew olympic distance will be much much harder than Sprint, but lately I realize it's even more and more harder than I thought haha I feel like I was in a better shape few weeks ago, and this week I feel like a total wreck, and as if it was my first day biking... I was thinking of pushing harder this week, but all it does is making my legs screaming for rest. What's the best way to plan? All that I want from this race is to finish (and set the bar low for next years), and I will probably focus the most on the swim (and then ride and run easy). What are your experiences? |

You've been traveling a lot recently, including some substantial time zone changes. That can really mess with people, leaving them feeling flat. Prioritize rest to get back in sync. Then for workouts, you're inside a couple weeks from the race, so it's more about familiarity with the effort than really driving some fitness up. You're not going to recreate the entire race, or even a leg of the race. Just to enough to have some familiarity with how hard you may be going. And at this point in time, it won't be more than a few of the workouts. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Manatee à trois Bad time to brag about the near-full-coverage of everything we have in Germany? Actually it's really lovely, as they don't JUST cover the front of the field in say the marathon or triathlon--mostly, but they spend a good bit of time on chasers and even a bit on the rest of the field. I forgot to mention that a woman from my high school (turns out my nephews and niece are friends with her, I just incidentally know her because of the school connection and her father is still the principal) pulled #18 in the Olympic marathon (for Australia). I knew she was a runner, I just had no idea how good! Durrr I'm still in Germany for another couple weeks, back to Indonesia for a week, then finally back with Kingsley for a few weeks in Perth. Usually we do well apart but it's been a pretty rough time for both of us. NyNy kindly asked about my foot again. I'm giving it a few weeks, as advised. Whether it's soft-tissue, stress rxn or stress fx it needs to just rest. Me too. |

Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Manatee à trois Decent day to be home. The race was great to see as the Browlee's push so much from start to finish. Near enough the front on the swim. Always getting in the break on the bike plus pushing hard on it. Then taking off on the run. Others certainly work hard, but you can just see it these two how they're just after it all the time. Had a strong feeling that break would stick since it was 10-12 guys at the start and not just 5 or so. Knew it at half way and the chase pack wasn't making any ground. That was disappointing to see as it's often said that the domestiques (anyone not the guy for a country) can pull people back up. A guy like Mario Mola can actually run with them, but missed that front pack and no one pushed to get back up. Richard Murray might be able to, but never makes the front with a subpar (for ITU) swimming ability. What time do the women race? Be very interesting see after watching the men. The coverage is actually really good here. Some wonder about Gwen's ability to handle the hills here, but I wonder if her lesser biking ability is because she's tall & thin without being able to get lower. Still might have some good power to weight in there to get up these things. Haven't seen her ride in a bit, but she's had about the worst position out there. She's also shown that she doesn't have to be fully up with the front pack to win races, although this will be the most competitive one she's done. |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Manatee à trois No worries--I'm on island time too most of the time. Actually had a party at school yesterday (long story--my assistant forgot Tuesday was my birthday, then said she was getting a cake Wednesday, but I suggested she wait till Friday as that's one of the kids' birthdays, so we could share the party. Then she accidentally ordered it delivered yesterday, (wishfully) thinking it was Friday--in the middle of last block I get a call from the office saying, "Your cake is here!" Plus my kids decided to sing "Happy Birthday" to me as they left the room, so pretty much everyone in the school thought yesterday was my birthday. Whatever! Finally a few minutes of track--semifinal of the men's 1500m. Local boy we call "the dude" (Blankenship) running in front, but I have a feeling he may be in over his head. Hoping they don't cut to judo or something before Centrowitz runs. Dude made it to the final. He would be more aero if he got rid of the ponytail. And...yep...cut to judo. Give me my Centro! (Cute, awesome runner, very modest guy. Kind of a local fan favorite.) ETA Centro qualifies for the final in third! So now there are two local boys in the Olympic final. (In London, I think there were three!) And now....cut to judo again. I have to go to work, anyway. Edited by Hot Runner 2016-08-18 7:02 PM |
