I've known people for years that continue to call me Jane -- people just don't see that first N and completely miss that its JaNyne like Janine Turner or Janeane Garofalo. Eventually you just have to let it go ;-) Here's a story for you. My maiden name was Jones. I got used to spelling my first name j-a-n-y-n-e and then saying Jones. So I got a piece of mail send to Janyne Joans. How do you misspell that last name?! Yikes! OK, one more name story. I lived here in North Carolina when I got married. A lot of North Carolinians drop there middle name and replace it with their maiden name when they get married. People asked me are you going to keep your maiden name? I'm like, it's JONES. What's to keep? I mean, if it was a unique name, maybe but it's a dime a dozen. Maybe I feel that way because my dad's name is ... wait for it ... John. Talk about a generic name :-( (besides, I like Michelle better anyway). I don't have any troubles with my first name - but very, very few people have been able to pronounce my last name on the first go around. It gets to be somewhat entertaining to hear what people come up with! People can't pronounce your last name? Seriously? When we lived in Milwaukee, the family next door had the last name Kowski. This is not unusual in the Milwaukee area. It was probably Kowalski and someone along the line decided to drop a syllable (also not unusual). The dad was in sales (sold pace makers). He decided that his unusual last name was costing him sales. They changed their name to Smythe. How weird is that? Not Smith, which would have been easy but Smythe, which you still have to spell for people... |

When I trained for the Olympic tri about 6 years ago, I gained weight. Long slow distances don't help me, but my legs cannot take intervals, etc. Once I did lose weight with spinning, but I had some emotional things going on with my dog rescue, so I don't know if it was the spinning or the emotions. Has anyone tried the Paleo diet? I did the Medifast diet last year, I did lose 8 pounds, which I gained back in 2 minutes. I am post-menopausal, but I know women who are have still lost weight. Any help, greatly appreciated!!! Nancy Okay your first thing you have to get over is DIET - it's not a diet it's a lifestyle. I strongly suggest you listen to Vinnie Tortorich podcast - i follow his lifestyle, basically no sugar no grains - it's done great things for me and i'm never hungry. Any 'diet' that restricts calories of course works but it's short term because no one can live in calorie deficit forever and you'll be miserable. you could go whole hog and go the VEGAN route - I can't commit to that, if you do then some grains will come back in - for this i'd advise looking up Rich Roll - amazing man ultra runner. Say goodbye to sugar you won't look back - that stuff is as addictive as heroin. PM me if you want any information |

I think it is going to have to be a lifelong change, I am going to have to give up on my ice cream and chocolate!! And that is why I'm fat. This is why I workout so much. I have lots of random thoughts, most from my own experience, some from coaching, some from sci studies. People who have been successful in losing lots of weight and keeping it off got there by many different means, and stay there by many different means. But it is generally true that incremental lifestyle changes that are kept work better than rapid weight loss through drastic change. It is really hard being a post-menopausal woman trying to lose weight. I don't know this personally; it's just true. So kudos. Have you/are you doing regular strength/weight training? If so, what kind? (Should I be looking at your logs?) My experience is it's a lot easier to cut calories than burn them. Curious, for how many weeks did you average 15hr/wk for the Oly? It's also easier to make one change at a time. Over time, that adds up to a lot of change and a lot of weight but it's done manageably. Whole foods. Does what you're eating look like what it actually is? (exceptions can be made for strictly-training food, although, overall, most average triathletes are fuelling their workouts too much). If not, what are the processed foods you're eating? Can you cut one out per week (or have one day where you can eat them)? Â Hi there, I haven't been doing anything but running recently. No weight training, biking or anything. When I was training for the tri, I trained 3 hours a day for about 6 weeks. And my food isn't whole foods much. I have been better at lunch - I used to eat a school lunch, carb loaded, but now have soup and a salad. I eat an energy bar at around 10 AM, lunch, yogurt at 2pm, sometimes I graze when I get home. I hate eating a big dinner. Too many years of cooking for my kids and all their friends. I think I am going to try lowering my carbs a bit. The donut at breakfast isn't a great idea. I just am getting frustrated. Thanks! Nancy |

PM me if you want any information With the sugar did you just go cold turkey or did you gradually cut it out? To start with did you replace it with anything? The only thing I would miss with sugar is my tea. I could give up sugar n every other way, I gave up smoking and drinking, I can give up sugar. But I love, love, love tea with 2 teaspoons sugar in it. Lawd, I can't imagine giving that up! It's one. Of my few remaining pleasures! Nancy I have been drinking tea since i was a toddler - some forty odd years always with sugar or a sweetener - i went cold turkey and finally it's pleasant - after four months! |

I'm thinking about changing my username... Listen lady, you are lucky you have us spelling your name correctly. One step at a time Poor Janyne...I've been messing that up for months. I pronounce it like you're on Highlander. I don't know if that's right, but that's what I want to be right. |

Spell it how you wish! Everyone else does! lol...my maiden name was polish - Mazurek. I was excited to change it. Drake is so much easier. |

When i got a sugar craving some frozen berries with heavy/double cream worked fine - add some raw cacao nibs for chocolatey crunch. It is tough - the first week felt like i had the flu and i knew if i had a hit of sugar i'd feel better. Im now pretty much 'fat adapted'. If i'm going long on a race or training - I 'trickle' sugar. so i'll go the usual fat etc, but i may have one jelly bean to give me a boost. For IM I'll hit the coke! |

At this stage I am thinking the week after Christmas cause I don't have to work or if I do I will be at the office by myself so it won't matter so much if I am grumpy.Originally posted by StaceyK Originally posted by jobaxas So Jo I have been looking at the sugar thing for a while now trying to get the guts to tackle it cause I know it's going to be hard for me.
