novas - 2009-08-16 7:13 PM YAY, awesome!

... as an aside, was it a real island in LB, or an "island" of the oil-derrick-made-into-an-island.  when i first moved out to SoCal and saw those little fake islands i thought they were SO comical.

Thanks all.  I am hoping that next year I won't have any more "comebacks".  Two years is enough

As for the island, this was Naples Island (or Treasure Island) near Alamitos Bay.  As we were driving down though, I saw those and my wife was asking what they are for.   I realyl have no idea, guess I'll have to google those....

Maybe it's these.... "The "oil rig islands" are four islands with active oil wells that have been decorated with different colored walls about a mile offshore. They are named for astronauts who died while being a part of the effort to reach the moon (Island Grissom, Island Chaffee, Island White and Island Freeman). "

THE ONLY WAY TO GET BETTER AT CLIMBING HILLS IS....CLIMBING HILLS

I'd say you have been climbing some pretty steap hills!

Congratulations on your accomplishments!

When I read the title of this thread, I figured you were either talking about an AG medal or an iron lung. Glad it wasn't the latter!

Seriously, way to hang in there. Soon enough you'll be leaving us young guys in your wake again.

Jeez - you are HARD-CORE!

You just had multiple pulmonary emboli requiring hospitalization (that seemed like yesterday on BT!) and you're already racing tris AND podiuming? WTF?!

Make sure on your next one you at least make it look hard.... Laughing

Seriously though - huge congrats on getting back on your feet and picking up hardware to boot. Great to hear that things are coming along nicely; PEs are not something to be trifled with.

Hah, I thought the same thing - "what kind of hardware helps with emboli?" Glad to know it was the GOOD hardware.

Congrats on toughing through this whole shebang. Its been hard watching you watch the rest of the tri world go by this summer. Good job on getting out there in a way that didn't exacerbate your injury (and, apparently, kept your wife happy - nicely done!). At least you still have the water; I can't imagine how awful it would have been if the doc had said no swimming! Yikes!

Great job Chris! What a great accomplishment considering all the health issues you've had to deal with this year.

1.25 OWS around a little island in Long Beach. No wetsuit and 63 degree water.

Congratulations on your podium and getting back out there! Um have your berries dropped back down yet?

LOL, reading sealiongirl's report, I realize it was actually 64, so warmer    But there was still a lot of protesting going on as I was wading into the water!
