TriAya - 2010-07-13 11:33 AM Hoy hoy. Thanks so much for posting the reminder. Such incredible and spooky things happened on that first Run for Rusher ... I'm in this Thursday! Wearing a T-shirt!

I want to go listen to the podcast again but I am sure I will cry.

Ed: Tears just getting the link and posting it ... but for those of you who haven't heard it ...

Yep, I'm choked up listening to it and I didn't know her.  Does anyone know how her family is doing?

I'm actually trying NOT to think about it too much...but I'll be running as well.  5 miles for me and for my running group at Feet First in South Tampa.

Nice idea.  I will run a 5K tomorrow, too.
However, it might be on a treadmill.

Does anyone know how her family is doing?

Her husband re-married.  I swim with him.  Her boys are doing OK.  Christian will be a senior in HS next year and Dylan will be a freshman.  I actually think Dylan handled it all better than Christian.  Tom (Her husband)  still mourns her loss. He misses her daily.  Christines mom was diagnosed with Breast cancer last year but is doing well although she is not done with treatment yet.  Her younger sister was inspired and will do Marine Corps MArathon this year.

Christine ran with me during my Double Iron in 2007. Driving all the way up to Virginia to run with a guy that she never met. I thought about her during my last race and ran the first lap alone in rememberance of Christine.

You can definitely count me in for tomorrow.

Thank you for putting this on!

Thank you for the update Socks!  I think about them often and can't imagine what it must be like to loose a wife/mother/daughter even though I've been closer to a similar situation than I'd like myself.  If you get the chance please let them know that prayers continue for them.

Wow. Never knew her, and sadly, never knew of her either.

It's apparent that I really missed out. What a shame on my part.

I ran the original Rusher 5k barefoot in the surf, back when I could barely run 5k.  A few weeks ago I was reviewing my logs and saw the report and the next day ran in the same place in her honour, so I guess I was early ... ran again today but in the foothills instead of the ocean.  Closer to heaven?

Christine's decline was one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever seen (virtually).  It was also, IMO, the very best sense of community in the history of beginnertriathlete.  When forums get petty, I go run for Christine.  Thank you, Sue -- who was not coincidentally named BTer of the month for her support of both Christine and the BT community during this tragic time -- for bringing this virtual run back to the race calendar and the forums and for the news on her family.

Ran this morning.  I'm not a great runner.  Probably never will be but enjoyed the day (despite the humidity) and cherished the ability to train and be alive.

Some things about Christine for those of you who never met her IRL.  She was VERY active in chat and BT provided her with a  really unique way of communicating because she was deaf.  She lost her hearing as a child and had a cochlear implant which allowed her to 'hear' somewhat but her spech was very difficult to understand.  THe more you were around her the better you could understand her but there was nothing like a playful evening in chat with Lucy.  She really found her voice there.  I've never shared with Tom (her husband) some of the details she let slip in there  teeheehee.

One of the funniest things I never shared with anyone is when she was getting sick her MIL had dropped off a bunch of nighties for her which she HATED.  She went on and on about it in chat that how could anyone possibly think she would wear such hideous things?  At this point we knew what was going on and Janice (foolproof) and I had plans to take her out to dinner and to victorias secret to buy pretty things because she knew she was going to probably need to have surgery and be in the hospital.  The dinner never happened but while she was in the hospital I met her MIL and I was constantly stiffling a giggle because her MIL was going on and on about all the lovely things she had brought Christine and I secretly knew that she had hated all of it.

I spoke with Tom today.  He took the boys camping in the mountains of Georgia for the week.  He wrecked his bike badly earlier in the week sustaining a concussion that left him unconscious for 8 hours but is fine now.  I told him he was NOT to run this week so I was a little afraid to tell him about the 5K.  Today when I got a hold of him he was on the top of a mountain on his own remembering  Christine and I told him about the run.  He is touched beyond words and says thank you to everyone.  Soldier on people and if you are so inclined tip a cold one back tonight and celebrate Christines life.  She loved a good beer

I am in tears as I sit here at my desk, reading about this wonderful woman.  I'm sorry I didn't get to "meet" her, but it's so touching to read everyone's posts.  I am going to go home tonight and run a 5k in her honor as well.  What a lovely tribute.

Thanks to my wife for pointing out this thread to me. I had been posting on BT for a short time when she passed away. I remember all the kind things people said about her. It sounds as if she was a very special person.

My wife and I will be running a 5k this evening in her honor.

Running with Jeff (Q) tonight. If not for Christine's passing, Jeff and I might not have patched up our differences. That would make Christine very happy.

Thanks for organizing this, Sue.

Love you, Christine.

my first run in weeks today. Somehow it was quite spiritual. Thank you Sue for reminding us of what is important and to take each day as the gift it is. Thank you C for adding so much to our community, you are missed.
