Yeah, 70 3 days this week! Thankfully we turned the clocks back so sunset is like 4:30 now.

I know!  When we were in Chicago, the weather was great!  When we came back to Raleigh on Monday afternoon, it was drizzly and miserable (and has been since).  Ugh!

Haha! It's light out here all they way until 5:15!

Happy Friday everyone! I am going on a much needed weekend away. With my sister and a friend. I haven't been away from my little one for a night or two since the summer. We did go for a weekend up to a friend's cottage for the night. We're not going too far away just to a touristy area that's mostly known for skiing (no snow yet) but has lots to do. Particularly the Le Scandinave Spa. YAY!

But i am going with my long-time running buddy - we've training for 4 of our 5 marathons together so we are sure to log some miles out there.

Have a great time!

Chris that'll be a lot of pies. I'm looking forward to reading about your OHMON on FB and the report. Have fun and do it for the kids.

Monica have fun and finish with a smile. And of course a post race celebration will be expected.

Mel don't expect too much of yourself. It's been a crazy few months. Just have fun.

Stacey start the year off with a bang!!! Go get em!

DLers heal up. Let's get back to no DL mkay?

Race well everyone!!! Heal up and feel better soon.

I picked up the tri bike, so it all looks like a go. 3 bikes, 100 miles. A route shaped like Pac-Man. Should be fun.

Crazy week at work too, and busy weekend. I am finishing up a series of five online courses in a couple of weeks, and will be SO glad it's done. Have learned a lot but I'm not sure I'm exaggerating to say it's ruined my quality of life. Weekends have just become rounds of training and long computer work sessions. About the only difference from workdays is no kids and I can have a leisurely breakfast. Guess I should be grateful for that.

Anyhow, finishing up first week with coach. A lot less volume than I usually do--will admit, I did some "junk miles" when coaching myself, just for something to do and to help me focus better on work and coursework--plus some very different stuff with biking and strength. Those are my weaknesses so I probably need it. Have been agonizing over the fact that I can't (and not for want of about 40 years of trying) do even one regular pushup. I also can't do those plyo bounding drills--I don't mean I'm bad at them, there just seems to be something not there in my body.....Even in college, at my physical peak (and I swam in HS, so my upper body should have been strong), I couldn't do them.

Maybe a matter of center of gravity, or zero explosive strength. I'm pretty strong otherwise for things like lifting weights, carrying suitcases, moving furniture. Anyone else have this problem??

Envious of fall weather. Hot here and rainy season won't give up. Occasionally there's a breath of cool air (just under 80, maybe) early AM but mid to high 90's in the daytime and humid. In other news.....my parents are pretty set on moving from Eugene to Boise next spring. Have visited many times but I've been an Oregonian (when home) since age 17 and it's just really hard to give up my attachment to the place. Boise's okay--awesome bike trail system, active tri club, plenty of events, but it's so....brown and dry once you get out of the river area. Not practical for me to buy property in Oregon when I'm working overseas and job prospects there are so bad. I understand why my folks want to move and have no right to ask them not to, just kind of in mourning over it.

Gooooooooo Racers!  Heaaaaaaaal DL'ers.  My knee is improving, physio has given me stretches, exercises and told me I have to extend my right hip more when I run.  So I am running, tentatively.  Just shorties so far, but everything is moving in the right direction (ie off the DL) so that is a good thing.

Go Chris, TJ, Monica, Melanie and Kingsley who is doing the Mandurah HIM on Sunday.

Mary I hope you keep getting better and can come swim with the pod again soon. Lisa I hope your appointment went well this week and Kristen I'm glad to see that you have been able to get back out and run, even if it is only short distances for now.

Not a great race today. Lovely weather, well organised, great group of people. My race just sucked, felt like I never got out of second gear. Got to get working on that.

I hope all our other racing Manatees had a better day.

Well, not getting out of second gear is better than not getting out of bed   Sorry you didn't have the race you wanted, but like you said, "get working on that". It'll come!

We were out camping with the Land Cruiser club this weekend, but I tried to check in on racers during sporadic cell signal areas.

Everyone looks like they had a good time...and that's the goal, right?!?!?  Well done, Manatees!   I won't spoil your race details

Oh! And ZOEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Zoe indeed!!!  Cuteness overload!  Wait, that's not possible to overload on puppy cuteness.  More pics, please!

Saturday I thought I was going to be joining Mary in the concussion ranks.  I walked into the hatch of my car and hit my head very, very hard.  Headaches the rest of the day, but it was better Sunday morning.  I finished my race (the performance aspect of it was dismal and will be discussed in more detail in the RR) but the beauty of the water and the day and the pre- and post-race events with friends made it all worthwhile.

Pod, I'm a sunken mermaid.
We learned flip turns during this week's swim class, and although I was executing them well, they did not agree with me. I was so dizzy! I'm happy to report that I managed to get to the locker room before throwing up though, so no closing the pool on my account. I also am a bit stiff in my back, so clearly I need to work on strengthening my core.
But here's my real question: I usually wear ear plugs in the water to help with dizziness, but I don't wear them during class because with the fan and the noise, I can't hear the instructor. Does anyone have experience with an ear plug that blocks the water, but that you can still hear with it in?

Edited for spelling.
