Wow. You did a great job of dealing with a really horrible situation. (hugs)

Had I been your friend's parents I'd have counseled otherwise.

Yes.  They consolidated right after I left.  There was something cool about having a girls' campus, but overall it's a net gain to have them consolidated.  The separate model was certainly not sustainable.

It's such a beautiful campus.  Good choice :)

Can I have a shot for the longest breakup, with a weird twist or two.....

We've all heard about the "Dear John" letter being sent to someone deployed with the military, well I was deploying and the night before I left I called my then wife, had a real long discussion about what was going on in our lives and told her we needed to separate and go for a divorce.

(there's a whole back story, I was career focused, "it's the Army or me" type thing from her)

I was supposed to deploy for 1 to 2 months, first boots on ground, quick replacement with stabilization force after we'd done our job, I told her we'd sort it out when I got back.  8 months later I was still deployed and in the process of separating.....

Between her and I the divorce and everything went well after I returned, the twist is, her parents refused to blame me, blamed her fully.  They actually told her not to come see them, banned her from their house.  It took my parents going to them and telling them to quit it before they started talking to her, I'd tried but they wouldn't listen to me and said it was just another example of why she should not have caused the split :-)

fast forward a few years, we've both moved on, have small families and have moved a number of times around the country, my new wife sells a push chair on Ebay and the buyer is........yup the prior Mrs. B.  I had no idea she lived in the same town :-)

Agreed - it's amazing how much worse girls can be when it comes to being mean.

I can understand why you don't like this story, but it's also a story of you doing a really great job of handling the situation with maturity, and handling it on your own in court.

My other son goes to Trinity Pawling so all my weekends are up in that area.

Well it is sorta off topic, but you must have a crazy story or two?  Pony up girl!

Hotchkiss is lovely and I haven't seen a lot of TP, but it looked pretty too.  (I played soccer, hockey and rowed so I saw a lot of the other schools--I'm sure you did too.) I'm a little jealous that you get to spend time there on the weekends.  New England is gorgeous, and NE in the fall, well, hard to beat.

In the theme of the owing rent reply...

My cousin (male) and I (male) moved out to Colorado to live in the mountains and we moved in with two girls we had just met in Boston (literally hung out twice before deciding to all move together) who grew up together who wanted to just go out and snowboard and be ski bums for a year like us. None of us had significant others at the time. I was out there for about 2 weeks with just the girls before my cousin joined us. 2 or 3 days in, bars, booze, I sleep with one of the girls. No biggie, we talk it out, both just having fun, could be a good year out there when we don't meet anyone else.

Month later her BF (???) comes out to visit. News to me. I'm cordial with the dude, no lingering issues between me and the girl. Apparently she had lingering issues with me though, and she told her bf all about them. Very rarely do people approach me in a physical manner. I'm 6'6' back then I was probably 220#, good shape. He got up in my face, or rather my chest area as he was maybe 5'8", one night saying that she told him about stuff and she's upset at me and he wants to kick my a$$, all that good stuff. I'm a laid back guy, I defused the situation, I don't (and didn't back then, this was 8 years ago) fight anymore, buddy of mine got stabbed at a bar, another shot, so I just walk away. Which I did in this case. So SHE starts screaming at me and throws a vase (must have been a bottle, we didn't have flowers hanging around) at me and it missed and hit the wall. I didn't flinch, just left, let them cool down. She continually throws things at me as I'm walking down the stairs (3 flights) and now her BF is holding her back haha, awesome. I came back, the other female roomate is pretty chill too, so she just kind of stayed out of it, so then the crazy girl starts yelling at her too that she's not taking her side, so that's cool. So I made myself scarce for a few days, wake up, hit the mountain, stay at work later, give her a chance to cool down.

One night after her BF went back home (Boston) she calls the 3 roomates together to tell us she's moving out, moving back home. Ok, fine by me and at this point and even her best friend was fine with it as this really opened up her eyes that she's nuts. The kicker of it all is that she doesn't want to pay rent if she's not living there. Our (the 3 sane roomates) general feeling is "eff you, you signed a lease" because at this point I'm making MAYBE $8/hr at a board shop, so I can't scrap any more change together, same with the other 2. So she comes up with this crazy plan that she'll pay rent but only on the months she'll come out to visit, and we have to leave her room open so she can visit when she wants. Visit? No. I don't remember what we finally agreed on, but she left the next day, never paid rent and never came back to visit. Luckily the other female roomate was such good friends with her and her family that she talked to her parents and they sent the money over for the rent haha. We ended up going to the rental company and threatening to sue and all those things but it never got that far. We think she had a key still and sent it to a friend of hers that lived near us and she ripped us off one night, but luckily we had NOTHING in the apartment as we were poor ski bums and kept our boards and skis at the shop. It was something like half a dozen DVDs that the 3 of us never found. Gladly paid to get rid of her.

My cousin and I are still best of friends, both the best man in each other's weddings, and I'm facebook friends with the other sane roomate and it's a great story that we all love to retell. I think it's grown in size over the last 8 years, but that's pretty much what I remember. No clue what the crazy girl is doing these days.

I dated this guy for what must have been less than a month. He was a bit flashy and big into spending money - we went to concerts, shows, etc. I felt bad he was spending so much and even offered to pay once or twice but he always declined. After I broke up with him he sent me an itemized bill for everything we had done together and demanded half of the money! Needless to say I did not pay, but I kept the bill for a while because my friends and I got a really good laugh out of it.

no question there are stories but no breakup stories.
I don't stay friends with exes - they are exes for a reason.

my biggest breakup story would be my divorce - ex husband is a professional, just lazy, so I made more money because well someone had to be responsible for the fact we have kids - anyway he came after money and in massachusetts they simply look at who made more. So I ended up having to pay him. As we left the courthouse I asked him if when he reaches between his legs he feels anything.

Several years ago, I got the urge to do a triathlon. When my second pregnancy occurred almost immediately following the first, I mentioned to my sister-in-law that I would never get around to.
