That is terrible news.  I hope he gets well soon.  I'm sure he'll come back bigger and stronger than ever.

This is really terrible news, although I had a moment of panic when I saw the thread title.  Joel had such a great race at Boston and it sucks that he won't be able to do any more this year. He's a great guy and is really inspirational to me and a lot of other people around here.  I hope he heals quickly and doesn't go crazy during that time.  I hope he doesn't drive you crazy, Katie.  Please let me know if there's anything you need.  I'm not that far away and I'd love to help in any way that I can.

all the threads about cars hitting non-BT-ers were upsetting enough, but to have it happen to somebody you 'know' (even if only online) is much more sobering.

best wishes for a speedy recovery, and everybody else stay safe

I probably can't add anything that hasn't been said.  My heart sank at the thread title as well.  Joel has inspired me with his dedication, talent, attention to detail, and willingness to share.  Please let him know he's got 3+ pages of BTers wishing him well.

There is no bright side, but at least he got to show that Boston course who's boss.

Wow that really sucks. I'm so sorry to hear this. I have been constantly looking over your logs since I became a member because your self reflection on your training and dedication to the sport is quite amazing. I wish you all the best in your recovery.

Sorry to hear about that...wow, let us know how everything goes.  I'll be thinking and praying for him.  Is there anything else the BT community can do?  Keep us posted...

Adding my thoughts and prayers for an exceedingly successful surgery and shockingly rapid rehab and recovery.  With Joel's level of fitness, I have no doubt he will amaze all his physicians with his ability to recover.

Now, about the idiot driver....

That's so awful. I hope you recover quick Joel and they catch the person who took you and your bike out.  I can't believe they didn't stop!!!  At least it didn't happen before Boston and you were able to run a kick a$# race!!

holy crap.  Hope you have a speedy recovery and that they find who did this.

True Tri-geek tho.  Riding on exotic materials isn't enough.  Now they are part of your body.  Unfortunately I don't think they make Carbon Fiber Surgical pins, so you will have to settle for Titanium.  Just make sure to ask the doctors to give you FAST ones

I'm speechless. Joel is an incredible athlete. Along with everyone else here, I hope for a speedy and full recovery.

I really hope they find this woman. People make mistakes in the spur of the moment, but to run off and not take responsibility? That's just cowardly.

My blood ran cold when I read the first sentence. I'm really sorry that he was hit. Absolutely terrible, but I'm glad that it wasn't worse. My thoughts are with him.

Well, I read this message early this morning and thought WOW!  My thoughts are with Joel and in support of Joel I will pledge to help with his training while he recovers.  According to my estimates, during the three months of projected recovery time, Joel had planned on Biking 500 miles, Running 300 miles, and swimming 50,000 meters.

I will pick up 5 extra miles a week on the bike, 3 on the run and 500 meters in the pool.

At all times I'll keep Joel in my thoughts and especially when I'm doing 'his' miles.  Take care and heal fast Joel!

Chris.

Thank you sooooo much!  I brought Joel the first 1.5 pages this morning and I know it's helping him to remain strong and think good thoughts.  Thank you all, for your dedication, friendship and support.  Joel goes into surgery around 5pm tonight...and I'll be sure to update you on his condition later this evening.

Be safe out there BT'rs.

Katie
