Judi, I hope things work out in whatever group you are in, but you'll always be one of us! And really, there is no group quite like this one although I think that can be said of all of the mentor groups.

Thanks, Chris....Popping in & out seems to be better for me.

Note to self:  Just cause you didn't really spend much time on the bike with the marathon build doesn't mean the rear cluster and chain don't get nasty.  Man that thing was making all kinds of racket!! Cleaned my rear cluster & chain over lunch and hopefully will have a quieter ride tonight!

So... your YANTINESS... I know you're not a fan of hypoxic training but the swim coach I've been working with for the last few weeks had us try to go as long as we could without a breath. I made it across the pool (25y) with only one breath in the middle!!!!!!!! The coach said he's not a fan of hypoxic training either but was talking about breathing patterns and wanted us to try it. He's a good coach and has done a LOT to help my technique.

There's a huge difference between hypoxic training (which FINA, USAS, and USMS have officially discouraged coaches from doing--high risk, no demonstrated effectiveness) and breath control. If he's not expecting you to SPRINT without taking a breath as long as you can (and/or do more than one of those in a row) that's more like breath control. Sheila T, for example, has a fair bit of breath control stuff but the key word here is "control." Not suffocate, explode, die. If it's not making you involuntarily gasp underwater, if it's not to faintness, if it's not something that's killing your rhythm (the idea is to PROMOTE rhythm and control, as opposed to windmill windmill windmill windmill BIG LONG GASP PAUSE BREATHE windmill windmill windmill) ... I'd say it's legit.

No, I think that we need actual pictures of her or her cats or something.  For Ben I guess we'll have to settle for a screen shot of his weather app since he wants to remain faceless to us!

Morning run done. Feeding the girl now, and bio posting is on the agenda for this afternoon

If I haven't mentioned how happy I am to be back in 60* weather...I AM THRILLIFIED!  The cold itself didn't bother me so much as the ice and muck on the ground. Blech!

The citrus growers did their usual trick of keeping the sprinklers on the fruit and some picked their crop. I don't think they had any issues. If they did you'll see it at the grocery store!

I don't think I can put what I'm actually called, but many call me Erin... two, Mommy...and you may see Goody.

After 12 years of teaching, husband and I decided a family break was in order. So, for the moment, I am a SAHM to two wonderfully crazy kids (Taylor and Makenna). Fair warning- you will see them often.

I've always enjoyed playing sports and being active. Even got "conned" into doing the triple jump at a few track/field meets. Who does the triple jump???  I earned a horse when I was 12, and for the next 6 years I spent no less than 2 hours a day cruising through strawberry fields and along the beach. After a bad knee injury in college that lead to several surgeries, riding my horse was something I could count on. One activity I was never excited about was swimming. According to my mother I was a fearless swimmer as a youngster, but somewhere along the years I gained a phobia of the water...or rather what lives in the water. I don't have gills or fins or flippers; it isn't my world and they will get me.  About two years ago my husband took up triathlons, and I said I would never/could never. Just over a year ago I was having a conversation with my son and heard myself telling him, "You'll never know unless you try. Maybe you won't like it. Maybe you will. But you have to try." Sigh...so next thing I know, I'm training for a local sprint with four week's notice. I actually listen to my own advice sometimes.

As mentioned, I'm married to a fellow tri person. He's actually making his first attempt at an IM this year (SAHM thing will come in handy for keeping up my own training). We have our two little humans. They were preceded by three sweet mutts, and we added a drooling feline most recently.

At the moment I am training for my first marathon using Higdon's Novice 1 plan. I have done three HMs and numerous 5ks, but, as I've never been a distance runner, this is really testing me so far. I won't be fast; I WILL finish.
2014: Mtn bike relay, marathon, 2-3 sprints, first oly, HM, a few 5ks (with kids we take races as we can get them scheduled)
2013: HM, Pat's Run, Super Sprint, 3 Sprints

I've got some traveling/holiday weight that needs some trimming

Holy cow! 42+? I was in the 26' range. No one else could get the right timing down consistently, and it was a fair bit of luck I got even that far on meet day. But it was me or no one. Lol

Quick opinion question...we have to have lights for pre ride tomorrow night and race this weekend. Any pros/cons you've found with bike mounted vs helmet mounted? I haven't had either one.

I've only done the bike mount, so take this with a grain of salt - I hear an issue with the helmet mount can be that you can get a face full of bugs as they fly to the light!

Erin, my only input is based on 2 pub rides in the dark, so really I am NOT the best source of info. I've used both and like helmet based, as it is a bit more flexible and gives you the ability to look at different things at different times. Is both an option? If so, go that route and have the best of both worlds.

Sounds like another fun adventure for the two of you!  I think it is just super how you are able to do events together, truly!  Hmm, it kind of comes close to me...the areas closest to me they'd hit on a Thursday.  Oh, and and o'dark thirty!  Not sure how I feel about the 1.5 hour drive at a wacky hour to run in the dark.  On the other hand, I technically wouldn't have to miss work, although I doubt I'd want to go in after all that driving and running and not sleeping.

On a side note, according to the scale this am I'm back to my pre-holiday weight!  Hope it was a true number and not just a fluke.  ART tonight, I'm going to see what he thinks about trying Masters again on Friday with me being very mindful about not kicking too much.

Where are all the new manatees?!  Don't be frightened, come join the fun!
