Well, i watched the run portion of the IMWC 70.3 and that was cool! I loved how they mentioned that the winner Taylor Knibb's mom was out racing herself in the 50-54 AG! Way to go triatha-family!

I was able to stream most of it as I worked. Taylor smashed it and very cool to have her mom racing too.

I’m signed up for it. Hopefully, I can actually commit to training for it!

Oh wow! That is awesome! I was so excited Paula Findley came in 2nd!

My friend Erin (45-49 AG) raced yesterday as a part of the IM foundation program. She did 6:41 which I am thinking is amazing on such a hilly course for a someone who lives at sea level where we have NO hills to train.

I'm a maybe. I keep thinking I need to do a half before my half in Aug. This is May right? I did it in 2018. GREAT course. I'll keep you posted after I figure out my 2023 season.

yes, it‘s in May. The best thing about this course is the downstream swim! Even if it is 1.4 miles!!

Downstream is my favorite direction to swim!
The date is May 21st.
I still have some things to work out before I commit, but I'm at a solid 70% sure.
I "won" the random drawing Escape from Alcatraz, but it is 5 days before one of Michelle's major fundraisers for her work. The timing ended up horrible.

I also have the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains 70.3 on my radar in June. I need some elevation. I think it's two weeks after Chattanooga.

Not sure of my race plans for next year yet, but I will probably try to do a 70.3 earlier in the summer before Worlds, unless Covid is really out of control again. If for some reason I can't find anything that works out well as a road trip/race, might just do a couple of shorter local races instead. I don't race as much as most people--the logistics are just hard, especially during the school year. My 84 year old mom insists on going to my big events, so I need to choose races with a very family-friendly spectator setup and (ideally) decent weather.

Yesterday our bike club was doing one of my favorite routes (to a covered bridge), so I decided to do a 52-mile ride with them (after not doing any outdoor rides and no trainer rides over 50 minutes since Washington 70.3, with Covid in the middle of that). To my surprise it went fine, plus the cold fog cleared and we actually had beautiful sunny weather for the final two hours or so. Admittedly, not pushing the pace, but it was a steady ride on a very rolling route. I think at this point I just needed to get outside. (After Covid we had over a week of bad smoke conditions from wildfires, and then a week of cold rain.) Felt good today and ran over an hour at normal pace; finally feel like I am back to normal, if a bit out of shape for more intense efforts.

So glad you are feeling better. I love riding outside too and right now I don't feel like doing anything 'speedy' just doing rides for fun!

I am going to sit down this week when I have time and look around at local events to add to next year's calendar and map out a plan. I have to admit. I do love plans!

I've registered for the Assault on the Carolinas on April 1.  That's all I've got for now.

I'm considering Storming Thunder Ridge. Do I want to do that?

Have any of you done any of the Hincapie Grand Fondos? The Chattanooga one is on May 6th.

Both those potential rides look right up your alley! If i could figure out a way to manage time off, the Hincape one looks like it would be a perfect tune up for Choo.  I'll need to store that away and think on it later.

If you decide to do it, let me know. We could do the 55 together.

I am registered for the following:

     1) 12/3/2022 - St. Jude Marathon,  Memphis

     2) 4/17/2023 - Boston Marathon

4/30/2023 is the Ibiza, Spain Duathlon Worlds event go scheduled for.  That day didn't work out for me so Boston was my only choice between these two opportunities.

4/22/2023 is when the USAT National Championship in Irving, TX is scheduled for.  I don't know why they are putting the qualifying event for the 2024 Worlds Multiplex Festival the  week before the 2023 Worlds Multiplex Festival.  That makes it really hard for me to qualify and compete.  With this being the week after Boston, I am not going to be able to do the USAT national this year.  I was 2nd place in my AG at my first National Championship and feel that I could beat the guy who won it this year.  I would have like to have another shoot and earning that National Champion shirt.  I am not going to miss the opportunity to do Boston though.

So....I need to find some multisport events.  CapTex Olympic Triathlon ion Austin, TX is at the top of the list.

100k.  Ceasar's Head is about a one hour climb -- mostly steady grade.  Both courses do Walnut Hallow (the bad way) and it's early in the ride. It's a short steep climb and scary because of the other riders.

Scheduling the 2024 qualifier the same week as the 2023 Worlds is just so dumb!

Well... Early registration for the 2023 USAT National Multisport Festival opened the day after the 2022 USAT National Multisport Festival in April.  The 2023 Worlds Event was not scheduled for about three month after that, so you could blame this on the World Triathlon Organization for not having firm dates until about 9 month out from Worlds.   But....Since Worlds hadn't be scheduled yet and USAT wanted commitments for Team USA before qualifiers left they National Event I looked to see when the 2021 and 2022 Worlds were.  2021 Aviles, Spain was in November and and 2022 Romania Duathlon Worlds was in June.  So I asked if Ibiza, Spain was tentative for a late year race and I was told no and that it would be scheduled for some time in April of 2023.  So...yes, putting Nationals and Worlds in the same week was dumb.  There were only 17 people in my AG at Nationals This year and about 5-6 of them were on Team USA, had done worlds before, and were planning to do worlds again.  Why would you set things up to where it is really difficult for any of the core team that has been competing at worlds every year to make it to the qualifying event.  They must just plan to invite them back with out qualifying knowing that they are not got going to fill their 18 allotted slots in every AG through that National event.  Personally I would like to see it just be 3 qualifiers from the national event so that qualifying means something.  I also would like to see USAT heavily subsidize the travel and lodging of the National Champion in every AG (or the top three over all or something like that) to Worlds. If you could earn a free trip to Worlds by winning Nationals then there would be a lot more competition.  The increase in interest might even be enough increase revenue enough to pay the travel for the team to Worlds.  I am just dreaming though.  It has been my dream since I was about 20 years old to have a sponsor to fund my racing. I am still waiting on that sponsor opportunity.  :-)
