Melon Presser ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth the last week--crazy busy in Jakarta with Mutti's birthday and the family biz (it's always that way, but still). Been on Oscar's island doing some intensive work with him the last few days. Emotionally it's been really tough for me. I know the conditions Oscar lives, works, and trains in but being immersed in it ... he's truly one of the most extraordinary people and athletes on Earth. He trains in a pool where I thought I'd get tetanus and sepsis just from looking at it. It's about 86F to boot. There's a hundred little things he needs that he has never thought of and would never ask. Trainer skewers. Multitool. Tyre levers. The right faching size handlebars. Carbon bike (better yet, tri) shoes that fit. New running shoes. Ever see pics of Third World ghettos, ramshackle houses built on stilts on the banks of and in rivers which are stagnant sewers choked with litter? That's where he lives. This is the pic of the base of his house. On the bright side, these are also his fruit carts, which explains a lot about him I always chuckle a bit when he pays me with bags of fruit. It's great fruit! (IMG_00005011.jpg) (IMG_00005003.jpg) Attachments ---------------- IMG_00005011.jpg (165KB - 5 downloads) IMG_00005003.jpg (84KB - 3 downloads) |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I take it you are on Bintan?? Houses and gutters like that are right down the road from me--I do thank my lucky stars I don't live in one, though. Good on him for being able to get out and train and compete despite such a tough (and no doubt physically demanding) daily existence. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ran it easy in a local 5k this morning. A classmate puts it on and the benefits go to a teacher in the district with medical issues, so it's always nice to help out in some way. Nice to see that "easy" now is right about 28' for that. Little more durability and that will drop a lot as I can't run anywhere near hard just yet. Liking how the stride felt, getting more spring back in it. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That sounds like a cool run, Ben. Glad you are getting back at it, even easy. I had a great race weekend. Good PR in the 10km (not sure by how much, been a few years since last standalone 10km). Decent HM as well. Race reports: 10km Edited by IronOx 2016-10-23 10:13 PM |

Happy birthday eve, Stacey. No race for me this passed weekend - too busy! Training has pretty much fallen by the wayside as I have accepted a new job starting in January which requires a move. The move means getting the house up to scratch for selling and looking for a new place. (it seems so simple and easy when I type it out!) My wife and I also appear to have slightly different ideas as what is perfect and we are both fairly stubborn and uncompromising people. Challenging times but the future is bright. |

Happy birthday eve, Stacey. Dave, congratulations on the upcoming changes, I'm sure that it will be a challenging, fulfilling time. We have lived in a few different places at different times in our lives and the one constant that has made for the perfect home is the family that lives in it. You may have different ideas on locations and amenities, but the family is the important part. I'm sure you already knew that, but I thought I'd throw that out there. Have a great week everyone!!! |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by Asalzwed It was hard letting the leaders go when aerobically I'm probably just behind where they are and everything felt fine. Kept a pretty solid eye on the watch and made sure to find some buddies to stay with. Kind of distract from what's going on up ahead. At least for the early going. After a little bit it was easier to simply hold the pace I'd been doing.Originally posted by brigby1 Well done on truly moderating the pace. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Have any Manatees heard of or tried Google Express? It looks to be Google's answer to Amazon. I live on Amazon, so this intrigues me. I don't think it is in every state yet, but is expanding pretty quickly. I just signed up for a 3 month trial membership, so I am going to give it a try. If you've used it, what do you like, not like about it? |

DH was buying something on line and the paypal connection was acting wonky. I looked at it and another option was to pay through Amazon, in a paypal manner. The lines are blurring for sure. I read an article a few days ago that said we don't really have any idea just how big Amazon is since they are taking over 3d party stuff in addition to their own. |
