Meeeeeeeee. I'm not allowed to work more. If I do, I am required to flex out the time within a week.

YOU SHUT YOUR STUPID PIEHOLE!  I try to make my own flex time and do a better job than most people I work with at it, but it's certainly not encouraged/definitely not policy.

+ MEEEEEEE.

And every day is Flex Time in that I have no set hours at all.  I show up when I want, work 8 hours, and go home.

That'd be nice. I get into the new job at 715ish to start sending emails n such to New York, then kick out a story for 8am. I usually stay til at least 5pm but sometimes am able to duck out at like 430. So ... that's from 9:15-10 hours a day, minimum. I also usually eat lunch at my desk. You guys suck.

I work flex as well, and it's strange to me.  As long as I get my work done, then any amount of hours I work is sufficient.  It's different as other engineering companies I worked at made pretty big deals about the hours that you spend there.

Same here. I am allowed to work more if the workload dictates, but it isn't very often.

Prior to my current job, I was an M&A investment banker and would work 7 days a week for months on end, as much as 20hr/day, and up to 120hr/week (no less than 100hr/week).
The financial reward definitely did NOT merit that lifestyle.
I eventually quit, and took my current role. I learned a very valuable lesson about work/life balance. I'm MUCH happier now..

I FINALLY have this, too!

I'm not allowed more than 40 hrs/wk, but I can really split it up however I want. And if I work less than 40? Doesn't matter. It's a sweet gig.

Anybody else see the new Superman movie 'Man of Steel', yet?

I heard lots of folks panning it, but I saw it last night and really enjoyed it.  I'm not sure why I heard so many folks saying that it wasn't that great.

I did not recognize the connections... it all makes sense now.

I liked Watchmen and 300, but Sucker Punch was just flipping weird.

I liked it.  I think that the general public is starting to get burned out on superhero movies.

I can't remember the last year that I only worked an 8 hour shift being salaried.  I usually have 40 in by late on Wednesday or early on Thursday.  Currently working 6 days a week.

Fortunately my employer supports the concept of "work / life balance" and we rarely do more than 40 hours a week. There was one brutal stretch when we did a crunch mode and worked about 10-12 hours a day, 6 days a week for a month to get a product finished...

A full-time week for me is 35 hours... I may not have the luxury of coming and going whenever I please, but this is a pretty awesome company to work for.  What I also get to have is my office is about 6 blocks from our apartment, less than a block from my gym, and about 9 blocks from the lakefront.

Well, that kind of attitude drives me straight to drugs or booze.  It's other peoples attitudes that are in control of my actions.  I'm helpless.

I rediscovered and odd phenomena.  When I have a bad day, I get STRESSED.  But when the day is SOOOOOO bad, like today?  It's LESS stressful.  There is something relaxing about "giving up"!

Instead of scrambling to fix something, you just say "ef it, it's totally FUBAR" and just start from scratch.

Here I get in at 7:00 and leave at 6:00. My commute is an hour each way. I generally escape for 20-30 minutes most days as and when I can. The hours are long, dull, and frustrating more often than not. Work life balance ? Hmmm not quite. But thats why I get paid the big bux.... Not. These days more trying to negotiate my path to being made redundant.

had a team building dinner with my brazilian co-workers last night and now i really really want to go to brazil!  except they hate spicy food - even steamed shrimp with old bay on them is too spicy for them - but otherwise it sounds AWESOME.

Training our bodies to work efficiently in Zone 2 will help us keep our HR and pace even throughout an Ironman. This theory would hold true for the bike and run portion of an Ironman race.
