We're becoming the ultra runner overachiever group!

I am back from the stupidly-humid southeast. We had a great time with DS2. We went to Amelia Island, Tybee Island, Savannah, and finished the weekend with fireworks at the pier in JAX. I tried kayaking for the first time and loved it. We were even joined by dolphins toward the end of our trip.

no. no, it does not. :p

Haha. The 3 mile loop things sound awful, but looks like this might be in Antelope Canyon which could actually be quite interesting.

I can't even wrap my head around how long 55k is. 4 miles sounds long to me, too.

So I may have just registered for the 70.3 Oceanside on April 1. And I booked our hotel.

Nothing like planning next year's races when you're not even done with this year!

Popping in for a quick proof of life post.  I've been away and busy over the 4th weekend, visiting in-laws in wild, wonderful WV.  A short work week this week as I'm not working tomorrow to take my bro for surgery tomorrow and stay with him throughout the procedure and until he's well settled into his room.  This weekend I'm off to a race with LT and hopefully meet Judi!

Too many pages and events to even dream of catching up with everyone, but it sounds like some big, fun events are in store for many later this season and next, too!  Yay, overachieving manatees!

Stacey - please stay safe. I'm not one to help on dressing for cold weather. But personal safety can NOT be overstressed!

Mary - Enjoy the R&R time away from the kids. They'll appreciate a recharged mom when they return!

Lisa - I think this group may actually have more ultras on the schedule than tri's at this point.

Hands - I give you twice the miles logged, due to humidity. You are far from a slacker!

TJ - It looks like the yaks were a hit! I hope you took some humidity to the arid lands of home.

Melanie - I hope surgery goes well, is uneventful and you enjoy the upcoming weekend.

Robin - Enjoy prepping for Oceanside! Do you have a longer race at the end of summer as well?

Your finger slipped, huh?

Congratulations!

(I may have made hotel reservations in advanced of a 2017 race entry myself.)

Agree with all, please stay safe, Stacey.  Err on the side of caution with nut-jobs.

Sounds like some are doing (or about to do) lots 'o running and others are not.  Whatever pleases you .  I am hoping to ramp up my running in the next few weeks.

Melanie I hope your bro's surgery is uneventful.

I am revamping a lab manual for a large animal course in the fall.  There is an app for everything.

Yes Antelope Canyon - I've been reading about the sand and am delightfully scared

Happy 4th y'all! Hope everyone had a good one!

Very cool Lisa! I'm doing my first ultra race next weekend, also a 55K.

I had 5 weeks in between the marathon I ran and the ultra next week with the summit of Mount Baker right in the middle. I had thought I could do one more block of training (ramp up and taper on each side) but that mountain climb in addition to the fatigue from training/racing the marathon has weighed on me heavily. I've opted to just run easy unless my body is telling me something different and added in easy cycling to/from work. Hopefully I'll not be too under-prepared for the ultra!

For certain races it seems like a necessity to book far, far in advance.  I think that is great to have something to look forward to and plan/train over a longer period of time.

It was a very long fourth weekend.  I was in the hospital all last week with an intestinal blockage (collateral damage from prior surgeries).  Got out Friday night, then had a wedding to attend on Saturday, Sunday was a bbq at my house with all my family.  We drained a 1/6 barrel keg.  Monday we hosted another bbq and fourth party.  Drained another keg.  Back to work now for some much needed chilling.

Ha, I do not think I have either. We can balance out the ultra marathoners.

The running aspect of an Ironman triathlon is a marathon. Most people take on a marathon as a single event and the training for this uses up a lot of their time. Here are some tips for the run.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
