On the subject of coaching, I used the Fink plan as well for a half, and it worked very well. For IM, I used a Training Peaks coach. It was a bit of a splurge, but it was money well spent. Having a "real" person to bounce things off, get feedback, encouragement and sometimes tough love made the training more enjoyable and held me accountable. Anne, was she with PBM Coaching or am I remembering that wrong? Would you recommend that coach to Jen or any of the other Manatees? You are correct, my coach was Carrie McCusker with PBM Coaching. I would definitely recommend her. I love Carrie - I spoke to her but decided to go with Amy (same group). My friend is still with Carrie. I've been with pbm for along time now. I also used to use Mike Plumb and DH still does. He's a lot less hands on (and costs a lot less) but he's great too - I think a lot of BTers and/or STers use him. He has like 45 clients currently. Personally I like having someone local to bounce things off of and before big races we usually get together for workout (this time was SUP and then lunch) and talk about race day. But everyone works differently. I think I'd be ok for Halves but for my fulls I needed someone to kick my butt. Whatever you do I recommend talking to as many as possible. Get recommendations from friends, do some googling etc. There are SO MANY OUT THERE it can be overwhelming. |

Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED I don't recall if I mentioned it here before or not, but many health insurance companies have a Garmin and Fitbit tie-in going right now. For Garmin it's 35% off retail. Even my crummy state BCBS plan has the offer. This includes new devices like the Fenix 6, Garmin 945, etc. Varia radar is also included. For me, it's under Blue365 > Fitness. Other plans apparently have it under ChooseHealthy. If you are in the market for a new watch, this is something to keep in mind. |

Are we doing them? Did we select a design? OK, I'll make three designs and put it to a vote. Next question, do we want everyday shirts (think cotton blend) or performance type fabric? In other words, do we plan to run in them or use them more for the team photo? Question 1 - Performance Fabric or Cotton Blend? |

(2) you are going to Chattanooga and may want to wear it there,. (3) We are going to have so much fun in November that we'll want to do it again! Do I need to come up with more reasons that EVERYONE should vote? |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2019 Edition - Practice Maximum Enthusiasm - CLOSED I actually did an event today, but had neither the run fitness nor the energy to really race. Was getting there in early August but then between the move, sciatica aggravated by driving here, a bout with some kind of infection after getting mauled by the kitty, and then the beginning of the school year, plus some tummy issues the last two days that might be something I caught from the kiddos, I'm really not my usual energetic self! It was a very small "race" that was part of a larger "triathlon festival" (Best in the West) in Sweet Home, about 40 miles down the road from Eugene. Only 12 takers for the half marathon. We six women quickly determined that with the possible exception of me and a 55 year old woman (no one had actually bothered to check if the AG were 5 or 10 year ones--without exception we were all either injured triathletes who couldn't swim or bike, or local runners who just wanted a supported workout with traffic control), we would all automatically win our age groups just by finishing. I won my AG and was 2nd or 3rd woman overall (lost track!) with a 1:55 on a super-hilly course. Definitely very low-key! I was really disappointed that after over a week of beautiful weather, our typical Oregon morning clouds and fog failed to clear as usual by mid-day, and instead solidified into mist in the latter half of the race, then into drizzle shortly after I finished (we left before awards--the finisher's medals are cooler than the trophies anyway), and then into a driving downpour, which stopped as soon as we got back to Eugene. The lake out at the course is beautiful and I'd really hoped to get in a nice swim after my race--even had a kayak escort lined up. But visibility was very poor out there by the finish of the race and Mom was miserably cold, so left without finishing my personal "aquathlon". Edited by Hot Runner 2019-09-07 10:03 PM |

IM 70.3 Traverse City killed this race. They were down over 300 racers, which is huge for a local race. I had a good day. PR for Oly and age group 2nd (3 guys in my age group). Overall a good day. I'm even happy with my swim! |

If we are running in them, performance fabric gets the nod. But I am not opposed to cotton blend, especially if it is nice and soft. |
