Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Manatee à trois Originally posted by Hot Runner I am just in awe of the distance swimmers....Ledecky's winning (and, I think, world-record) time for the 400m was UNDER ONE MINUTE PER 100m. I'm a decent swimmer (by tri standards) with some competitive swim background. I specialized in distance (500m and 1500m) in high school and from about age 11 on with summer teams. At times we trained 8-10K a day. I don't think even at my peak I could do five minutes for the 400m! Close, maybe, but not five flat and certainly not under. Never broken one minute for the 100m. Clearly in addition to absolutely perfect technique (her, not me!), she is working with a bit more than most of us have been given in the genetic department. Good there is a sport like tri where basically the goal, as my dad puts it, is to be kinda sorta good at three different sports, rather than outstanding at one! More up my alley. (Although, still, I look at someone like Daniela Ryf and realize, no, I don't have what it takes, or didn't, back in my 20's and 30's, either. Maybe if I could switch to a better body.) Well with regards to Daniela you're with the entire rest of the world in not being able to keep up. Some of these these things it's still just getting there. 400 IM? I've still alive!!! Heck, think most would do that for the 200. I never got to race LCM. That meet was always at a busy time. Only scy and scm. |

Veteran 1900 Southampton, Ontario | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Manatee à trois A triathlete is born. This past weekend my son Josh who is 13 did his first triathlon. The focus was purely for a sense of accomplishment and to see if he liked it. As such he went in with baggy swim trunks, his moms mountain bike with slicks and gave it his all. He did like it apparently as he is sending me links to used road bikes for sale. (Joshrun.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Joshrun.jpg (576KB - 3 downloads) |

Master 2429 Falls Church, Virginia | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Manatee à trois It has been a long weekend for me , and I feel like I need the mother of all naps. Grandma has some kind of aortic....something....not sure. They're deciding if she's strong enough for surgery. Yet she was still discharged to a rehab facility. I don't really understand it all. She is able to eat and seems to be feeling a bit better, so its a win for now. I did my OWS race this weekend and had a lot of fun. Race report is up on BT, and I'll get a more detailed one with pictures up on my blog tonight or tomorrow. |

Huge kudos to him for everything he's accomplished, including resembling a pirate after getting stung by a wasp & dealing with a (honey)badger on the road that apparently didn't give a sh*t that there was a bike coming at it! |

Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 - Manatee à trois Question for the group: Why or why would someone use the hand dryer (one of the high velocity ones) to dry your swim fins Every. Single. Time. It's like 95 degrees out. They will dry on their own. HONEST! P.S. The sound of hand dryers just grates on my ears. P.P.S. Hand driers are also not meant for (1) drying hair or (2) drying swimsuits. |
