Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED Originally posted by Richardsdrr Originally posted by jmkizer Wait, you guys just don't wee in your wetsuit? And you call yourselves triaghletes. Originally posted by amd723 Originally posted by jmkizer Randee asked about port-o-pots at the Chattanooga swim start. I said that there are "millions". There are seriously a whole lotta port-o-pots there (unlike Lou!) but there are still very long lines to use them. Bring a towel to sit on/save your place in the swim line. I'm just bringing a hand towel but bring something so you can find your spot again. My morning plan is: Drop of stuff to add to my transition bags, check bike and add water bottles, etc., use bathrooms in transition, get on bus, get swim start in line, use bathrooms at swim start (at least once). does the swim line not move while you are in line for porta potty? Or do your line neighbors move your towel with them?? No, it doesn't move. It's kinda like Lou was in that way. Transition opens at 4:30. The pro swimmers go at 7:20 or so. Sometime before the pro start, the line kinda starts to creep forward so maybe 7:00 or 7:10? Everyone stands up and puts on their swim skin. Family members are allowed at the start and they are pulled out of the line. Anyway, you are in line for a good while with it not moving. Once the line starts, it goes fairly quickly. As you approach the dock (there is just one dock for Choo but they start 2-3 people at at time), there is a place to drop your morning bag after the sidewalk ends but before the dock. I don't recall if it was drop off by race number but I imagine it is.

Master 4452 | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED Originally posted by StaceyK Start on Thursday. My birthday is Jan 4th so there is your significant day ??. And you are not pathetic!Originally posted by jmkizer Well the 100 days thing is/was that as of Monday 24th September there were 99 days left of 2018 (I know very sad that I know this).I was thinking of starting a 100 day run/walk streak on Monday which would take me through to 1 January 2019. I wasn't totally convinced that this was a good idea or why it even crossed my mind and I had no real great conviction to do it and as a result I failed on Tuesday (yes I'm that pathetic). The interesting thing is that it has now nagged at me all day today (Wednesday here) and I'm contemplating it again. 100 days would now take me to Thursday 3rd January which isn't as a significant date and so it kind of looses the appeal. What to do??? Originally posted by StaceyK It seems that I no longer live in a banned country and I can post again now Woo hoo! We can talk again! Stacey, tell us about your 100 days thing! |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED OMG I wish now I were doing Chatt! Then #1 I could go back (I recall fall weather was beautiful last year) and actually enjoy the downriver swim and eat some post-race BBQ, instead of an upriver swim and food poisoning #2 There would be fewer things that could go wrong, as compared to transporting oneself, one's bike, and one's 80 year old mother to an island in Malaysia and back for an IM. Whatever was I thinking? #3 I could meet up with Manatees and #4 I would be done with IM training. Is it just me, or does the training become worse/harder than the race itself? Not so much physical fatigue--I'm not teaching now so I do get plenty of recovery time, and long swims/bikes/runs don't really intimidate me. I like swimming, and am always happy to spend an entire day outdoors doing pretty much anything, including running and riding. I'm just sick of gu, energy bars, my bike trainer, and the alternative to it, which is having to keep up with people who are pure cyclists and way too fast for me on group rides. Anyway, good luck to all the Chatt people. Will try to stalk as much as possible! |

What to do??? Originally posted by StaceyK It seems that I no longer live in a banned country and I can post again now Woo hoo! We can talk again! Stacey, tell us about your 100 days thing! Do it! It doesn't matter so much about the date as the accomplishment If it will be a motivator to log it and see it happen then even if you don't quite make it you'll have accomplished something! :D But if you're not into it maybe there's another accomplishment. Have you read any of Gretchen Rubin? She has a great book about habits and a podcast that i really enjoy. But she talks a lot about the importance of getting started and how starting on a certain date can be a red herring. Maybe it's up your alley? I am in the midst of a totally random step streak with my garmin. I saw that they had a 30 day streak badge that i didn't have and then a 60-day one. Not sure why that was motivating but i am on Day 32 and it is kind of a tough day for me to get the steps but i was trying to figure out how best to get it today to keep my streak alive! Interestingly when a friend at work and I decided that we were seriously going to start what is called Bright Line Eating (basically no sugar and no flour and eating 3 portion controlled meals a day). We just decided that we were starting the next day. Today it has been 7 weeks and while there have been some stumbles it has been no where near as hard as I expected it to be. As of today I am down 6.4kg (14lb). I think the reason it has been mostly sustainable for me is that I had gotten to the "that's it I must do this now" point. Its no longer a should or want to somehow it became a must and I'm still not sure what triggered that. |

The mindset is primed to just do what one must. And congrats on sticking to the habits and getting some nice results from it! |

310 Raleigh, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED Well drat. Ironman 70.3 NC is canceled. I basically pried myself off the couch to get ready for this race and at this point in the season, my options for alternatives (especially those that require minimal travel) are very limited. I thought this might happen given Wilmington NC was hit pretty hard by hurricane Flo, but still, it's disappointing. The good news is that WTC is letting people defer to a very wide variety of races next year and even some full IMs this fall. With a new baby on the way, I'm not sure I'll be able to get up to speed for a 70.3 next year, but having a "free" race will hopefully motivate me. I finally had a decent swim this AM too. Sigh. |

My heart breaks for those athletes, and especially our own 4 (6) racers. ETA: even without the swim CHOO is longer than the typical 140.6 yep, swim is cancelled and they are rerouting the run as parts are under water. They hope to keep it at marathon distance. It is disappointing, but there has been so much flooding in the area that the dam has to remain open and flowing super duper party pooper fast. Plus there is a lot of debris and high bacteria levels ( I’ve heard). So, even though the decision was made so early, it’s hard to fault it; but damn! As TJ said, since the bike is longer than other IM races, even without the swim we will traverse 142.2 miles. Cant wait for my finishers shirt with that distance Hmm, there may be a business opportunity here!

The Chatty tri club always sells 144.6 stickers, I guess they'll have to reprint for 142.2 |

Expert 2811 | Subject: RE: Manatees - 2018 Edition Now CLOSED IM Choo racers sorry for the change. It stinks that your swim was cancelled, but safety is always more important. We went through that with my HIM. We had dangerous rip tides. Some people don't get that you aren't in a pool and fast currents are so dangerous. I honestly wasn't too sad the swim was cancelled, you know the whole swim like a rudderless barge thing. The rolling result of IMChoo cancelling the swim it has caused a total freak out on the second most neurotic FB chat group I belong to (most neurotic is a parents group for college students). The freak outs and the tantrums from adults over going swimming amazes me. I would be more than happy to welcome any of the IMChoo people to join me in IMLou if you transfer your registration.
