Originally posted by JJ- Another PR in the pool today I told y'all in January that I am determined to not be a back of pack swimmer. I will never be fast but I can at least improve. 1,000 Yard Time Trial January 20min 50 sec February 18 min 20 sec March (today) 17 min 49 sec My hard work is paying off and I'm seeing progress. Some of you don't know but I taught myself to swim 20 months ago by using youtube videos and posting videos here for Yanti and others to analyze so a 1:47 pace for 1000 yards is a big deal for me as a adult self taught swimmer who couldn't make it 25 yards less than 2 years ago.

EEEEYAHOOO andele Tejas!

And x2 on the Cobb--they're great guys, they make great saddles, and their return policy is amazing.

Salty--way to stick to the plan, and also HTFU on the run.

Katiefrog--YO MOMMA! Yeah, YO MOMMA!

Everybody's just so awesome here.

I want to snuggle all the puppies, manatees, and their hot rides. Oh, and their bikes too

JJ--Great job!

Erin--I agree with others, awesome pics!  And glad the toe is feeling better.

Kate--Wooooohooooooo!

TJ---Wooooo hoooooo on your niece!!

Thanks for all the opinions on the saddle issue!  I am going to give this one a couple more rides--I suspect I was the initial problem, not the saddle (I won't give you the gory details...).  But I will not hesitate to look for a Cobb or Adamo if needed.  I know my LBS has a loaner program, so should be no worries to try some out.

This is really important!  Do not buy a saddle that you cannot test ride (more than around the parking lot!) or return!

I didn't mention this before (but Chris did) but some sort of chamois cream can work wonders.  I have a variety I use: Hoo Ha Cream, DZ Nutz for her (whatever it's called, Bliss, maybe?) and regular ol' Chamois Butt'r and I be sure to hit, uh, certain more delicate areas with a higher quantity of goop than others.

Thanks for all of the inspires. Sorry but I don't have time to reply to them all individually so I thought I would do a quick update post. The pups are doing great - except for one (who is very healthy) but likes to whine like for 2 hours straight, it's touch and go but he might not make it through another night . They are 2.5 weeks old now and getting really big. The biggest ones are just over 2kg (nearly 5#) and the littlest one is a bit under 1.5kg, she has just discovered that she likes food and so is catching up fast. They all have their eyes open now and are starting to walk rather than belly crawl. Thankfully now they are mostly going 6 hours between feeds so I have managed to get about 4 hours sleep straight for the last 2 nights. Work has been flat out busy. I am actually on annual leave so shouldn't be working (don't tell DH) but the financial auditors are going through our annual financial report and want to know the ins and outs of everything (thank you GFC and new auditing standards in Australia). So most days I have been doing 4 or 5 hours of answering questions for them. DH is still not very well, has major body aches and is exhausted most of the time, he has no energy or strength to do anything much at all and heads to bed really early. He went to a new Dr last week and has been having blood, urine and saliva tests to try and pin point what is wrong. He has a follow up appointment on Friday so hopefully that will give us some answers. Have a great day everyone.

Puppies!!! sigh. I'm in a FB pets group for my city, and they're always needing foster parents or rescues to good homes. With two young kids, three dogs and a cat...we're not usually on the "help out" list. lol

Funny thing...I was talking with another Starbucks regular this morning and she mentioned therapy dogs for her son who has Asperger's/autism pretty severely. He had a Dobie who died, and now has an older Golden and a 10mo Mastiff in training. Never thought of them as therapy dogs. Kinda cool. She said the boy goes off badly and he needs big and steady

I think we tend to severely underestimate the abilities of animals. It's simply amazing.

So DH works at the Santa Fe airport and sees a lot of  "celebrities". He just text me that Lance Armstrong came through. He said LA dropped his laptop while putting it on the rollers.

That's all.

Agreed. The idea of a Mastiff as a therapy dog just made me laugh a little. Especially when his pic at 10mo put him about the same size as the Golden ("typical" therapy dog) who will be retiring soon. In my bit of reading, "We have found the gentle nature, and "couch potato" pace of a bullmastiff makes for a wonderful companion."  hehehe

I can totally see how this would work. After living with Mastiffs for over 8 years even the "super hypo" ones would look calm and steady compared to just about any other breed.

They are also remarkably gentle when they need to be. Watching my 100kg (220#) dog with her 500g (less than 1#) puppies has been amazing. Mind you when she's had enough of them she isn't above just laying her paw on them and pinning them still, but never with enough force to even make them yip. However I think she is getting a little tired of feeding the 10 little terrors 4 times a day (yes thankfully we are down to 4 now) she wasn't very co-operative at 4am this morning, mind you neither was I.

Happy Friday Eve Manatees.

Forgot to ask y'all about this yesterday... DH, DS2 and I went to the Southwest Chocolate and Coffee Festival over the weekend. It was pretty awesome! Anyway... one of the coffees we tried was called Caveman Coffee. The coffee itself is very good, we bought a bag, but at the festival they served it blended with butter (yum) and MCT oil. Obviously based on the name of the company they are Paleo focused. Apparently MCT is a derivative of coconut oil so I am wondering about the differences between the two. I replicated their recipe using coconut oil and it was good so I'm wondering more for the health benefit aspect. Thoughts? Anyone heard of it? I thought maybe some of our NSNG folks might have.

TJ, I have got nothing on the MCT oil.  I have started cooking more with coconut oil and love it though.

I am happy to report that my ride this morning was much less uncomfortable than the last two.

I guess "less uncomfortable" is a start
