Age Group Rank = 207/492
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 3:15 am, packed up the car, and drove the 2 hours to VA Beach. Parked the car and walked through gale force winds and rain to Jen's hotel. Hung out in the nice warm hotel until Jen came down, got my number & stuff from her (thanks!), and went to the starting line. (Breakfast = diet Pepsi & Cliff Dipped PBJ bar on drive down)
Event warmup:

Hanging out with Jen & her hubby, trying to find somewhere the wind wasn't blowing. :)
Run
 • 2h 13m 33s
 • 13.1 miles
 • 10m 11s min/mile
Comments:

Awesome run! I'm so happy with my performance - better than I had hoped. HR was low Z3 for most of the run, and I only walked to drink/eat. Went through 30 oz of nuun/water and 2 gels on the run. Bypassed the aid stations because I took my fuel belt and I'm partial to my own stuff.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - the training plan obviously worked. I'm a happy (and faster than I thought) girl!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked through the lines to pick up medals, hats, goodie bags, and space blankets. Took off my timing chip and got some wicked calf cramps. Went on to the beach to try to stretch. Didn't work. Got some beer. :) Didn't help my cramp but did improve my mood. Worked again on the calf cramps and couldn't shake them, so I walked to my car and drank some more nuun. Felt a little better, so I drove home. (Stopped for Wendy's Spicy Baconator & fries on the way home. Mmmmm.)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing - I'm thrilled.

Event comments:

This was a great race, and an excellent first 1/2 mary. Lots of volunteers, good spectators, some music, some jokes, some army folks, and nice runners. I had enough room to run without bumping folks, but I never felt lonely.

May drop in HR data later - but split info from race: First 4.9 mi = 49:34 (10:07 pace) Last 8.2 mi = 1:23:58 (10:15 pace)... I think I was actually closer to 10:0x pace for the first 8-9 miles, based on glancing at my watch. 2943/5501 overall 1319/3162 females 207/492 F35-39
Course: The funniest thing about the course were the joke boards along the course...my favorites: Man who keeps hand in pocket feels cocky all day and A crowded elevator smells different to a midget Yeah, I'm childish. :o

Wow! Awesome job, girl! Congrats on your first half-mary! Looks like you did a great job, but was there really any doubt. You have put in some serious miles getting ready for this and it really paid off.
