On occasion.....?

I try to limit my intake of caffein/coffee.  I heard it has negative physical effects in general, and can hurt performance if taken too much (I'm sure there is a debate on that - but lets not the point, so leave it out of this thread).

But on some days when I'm just DRAG'N (like today), it almost feels like a gift from above....

I LOVE a venti vanilla latte or cafe mocha, mmmmmmmm

What's your poison when it comes to Java?

This will result in the re-revocation of your man card if it had been reinstated OR will keep you from getting it back for a while longer.

I love espresso. My old company was Italian, and we had two espresso machines with nine or ten different espresso blends in the coffee room.

I decided a week or so ago to cut waaaay back on caffeine--it was making me too jittery and aggro. So, yesterday, a friend of mine from New Orleans sends me not one, but TWO cans of Cafe du Monde, which is my favorite non-espresso. Sigh. I guess the good news is now they'll last a long time.

I have one cup a day on the way to work.   Peets.... mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.   I start thinking about it earlier and earlierthe previous evening.  My wife thinks it sad that I announce how excited I am that I am going to have a cup of coffee the next day :^

Which is why when my office got an espresso machine I refuse to learn how to use it, lest I attach an IV straight into my office from the kitchen

my fave is a grande skim caramel machiato from Starbucks.  so good... but I limit my Starbucks coffee intake to once a month.  I had one this morning so that's it for April. We have a Starbucks right across the street from my office.. very tempting.

For the rest of the month, I drink the coffee the make most mornings in the office with two sugars and skim milk.  Just one cup for me in the AM.  If I'm dragging, I'll have another in the afternoon.

I like my coffee like I like my ex-GF's

cold and bitter.

I won't order any of the __achino's or frappe__'s, but I can make a mean iced coffee

4 espresso cups full of good espresso
ice
skim milk 1/2 cup
sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
combine all in a cocktail shaker
shake
Strain onto rocks
spoon out the foam (the milk will foam in the shaker)
This also works well if there is any coffee left over in the pot from the morning and I need an afternoon fix, especially in the summer.

Sometimes I adulterate my espresso with a bit of sweetened condensed milk. YUM.

I'm addicted to the Coffee Light Frap at Starbucks.  I'm trying to stay away from now on but today I'm dealing with a big headache and I have an 11 mile run later.  Let's hope it doesn't kill it.  I'm having Satrbuck withdrawls.

If I get coffee it's from the gas station.  If I add anything to it, most likely it's hot chocolate.

Best black coffee: Roast your own beans. I use a hot air popcorn popper and do a pound in about 6 batches at ~8-10minutes per. Makes a mess with chaffe and smoke and oil, but man, the coffee is unlike anything else. The flavor is really bright and smooth. No dessicating after-taste like SBUX, no wimpy dunkin donuts neutrality flavor. Also, you can experiemtn with how dark the beans get and gourmet varieties are so much cheaper than anywhere else. I know someone esle roasts here and uses a dedicated home roaster.
http://www.sweetmarias.com/sells green beans.
I use http://www.coffeebeancorral.com/who has awesome selection and never has backorders.

Thanks Pitt!  I'm a DIY'er for anything once....Does it require I dedicated popper or can you still use it for popcorn (no java flavored corn, please!)  I figure you could do it outside and keep the kitchen clean, huh?

Uh, no. It's trashed once it sees coffee. I do this on the deck to keep peace in the house. I like the peaberry beans, small but very flavorful!

Google the topic for more info. You'll learn about first crack, second crack, etc. degrees of doneness. First the beans will do nothing but spin, then this cottony shell blows off of them as they expand. After that's over, they brown up, smoke starts and, if you go darker, they'll start to pop and a small 1mm circle of shell comes flying off. That's second crack. I let that JUST about finish, then pour off into a colander to cool and start another batch.

Seriously, it's great stuff. The difference is astounding.

BTW: 4lbs of green coffee ($20 for 2lbs each tanzanian peaberry and Sumatra) just ordered since you made me think about it

Wow. I'm glad I took another look at this thread. You've just opened a whole new world to me!

Have you tried any of the Central/South American varieties? Comments?

I have recently gotten into coffee. I love black... I love latte's. But I will only get the "skinny" versions - nonfat milk and sugar free syrups.

Not to ruin a thread, but if you are interested in how good or back your Starbuck's drink is, you can calculate it here: http://www.starbucks.com/retail/nutrition_beverages.asp

Blech.  I prefer tea.  But I understand the subtleties of coffee and all it variations.  I just don't like them.

But I've been known to order a Venti Mocha with one shot and extra chocolate, with whipped cream.  A nice "dessert" drink.

And, no, it's not made with Quik.  At least not at the places I frequent.  They use actual chocolate syrup.

You guys keep going to Starbucks.  My stock is nearly back up to the level I bought it at!

The day does not start for me until the coffee is in me.  There are health BENEFITS to coffee - not sure about the vanilla venti mochachino crap but regular coffee is loaded with antioxidants, protective against stomach and liver cancers - in moderation.

Caffeine that naturally occurs (ie in coffee and tea) does NOT raise blood pressure (long term right after you drink it yeah). Caffeine added to things does (gels, pop....)

I have quit coffee at various points in my life - felt like dirt - certainly never felt better so my coffee addiction continues.

I like a *real* cappaccino. Something you can't get at Starbucks. Just espresso and a few dollops of foam, no steamed milk. Almost every coffee shop has no clue how to make one, so I generally don't bother. But I can tell when I order a cappaccino and the person asks me what size. Then I just say, "uh, never mind. Black coffee please." Cappaccino is ONE size.

(Clearly this is an issue close to my heart.)

(Dammit, Aikidoman, your creepy little dog keeps staring at me while I type this.

For me, the only beverage that could trump coffee is Scotch, but I can get away with drinking a whole lot more coffee. Black and as strong as possible...

I've been known to brew a whole mug of esspresso, one shot at a time.

See, I'm a "coffee only in the morning" type of gal. I like it because it's part of my morning routine and has been so since high school (started drinking it at 14 because I got up for school at 5 am).

However, after living in Ireland and now Scotland...I am a tea fan. If it ain't breakfast, it's time for tea! I really want to get a tri top that says, "powered by Punjana". And I take it, as they say, "coo an two".
