Total Time = 1h 10m 14s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = clyde
Age Group Rank = 3/23
Pre-race routine:

Sausage biscuit (yeah I tasted that later- lesson learned) drove to race - had plenty of time to set up transition and chat with club peeps
Event warmup:

swim to acclamate to the cool water, chatted some more
Swim
  • 13m 4s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

average swim- but I'm an average swimmer- going to have to start working on this, I would have liked to have been a little faster, but just glad to get done and move on.
What would you do differently?:

practice!
Transition 1
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Ran past the bike, but clean transition otherwise, maybe 3-4 second loss
What would you do differently?:

spot better
Bike
  • 32m 30s
  • 11.2 miles
  • 20.68 mile/hr
Comments:

Good split until dropping chain on an uphill- I had a hard time getting it back on and lost waaayyyyyyyy to much time with it. I felt like Norman Stadler screaming at my bike. Sucked it up and cranked it out the rest of the way
What would you do differently?:

Get the chain slippage corrected and continue to build cycling fitness
Transition 2
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

had a sloppy time getting out of my shoes while moving and almost lost my shoe. clean and quick once in TA
What would you do differently?:

practice dismount
Run
  • 22m 36s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran hard off the bike and pushed myself knowing I would have to rock this run. Mile 2ish on the hills I stared getting pukey- Sausage biscuit and grape gatorade is not a good flavor combo. I backed off a little here until I saw last years clyde winner in front of me at the turnaround- so I hammered all the way to the finish from there.
What would you do differently?:

no complaints- 4 seconds slower than PR
Post race
Warm down:

water, beer, cheer other racers, then checked results- 3rd Place clyde!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

inconsistency, weight, lack of swim training

Event comments:

Great event

Congratulations on that fast race, Rockstar!  You dropped your chain and still had a 20+ mph bike split?!  Great job.

Congratulations Greg - that was some awesome racing!  And getting hardware is so cool!  In future race reports, please leave out an gross pre-race breakfast that you later regurgitate.  That was too gross for me on a Monday morning!

What a great race.  Dropped your chain and still hammered the bike, very impressive.  Congrats on the hardware.

Nice race. Excellent run. So you tasted the biscuit again.. who cares. You know you are going to retaste something.. Gu, Boost, Ensure.. I think i'd rather retaste sausage biscuit.

Awesome race! Stellar run too. Looks to me like you had one hell of a good race Nice job! On a side note, I would whole heartedly disagree with atl_runner...the sausage biscuit is the LAST thing i would want to re-taste.

Great race!  Lost a chain, and still finished over 20 mph!!!  I think you've got a Clydesdale suit you put on at the start and the finish, and are really a 120 lb Kenyan inside   Congratulations on the medal!

At least you figured it out early.  It took me about 3 races to figure out that Sausage biscuits didn't suit me before a race. Or bacon for that matter.

Nice race and way to keep it rolling.
