Are you crazy like me?

I'm still 5 weeks out from my "A" race, and I have just spent the last week looking at plans for my NEXT race in April!!!  Maybe I should just stay focused on the first one, no?

My plans are about to change, but if you look at my Planned Training, I have training plans set up all the way until June 28th, 2009 - my first HIM.

My training schedule is set through September 13th, 2009... my first IM.  Not sure if that much planning is a good idea but oh well!

I have something mocked up through June 2010 (IMCDA)  But then again I really haven't nailed down the '09 race schedule or focus so that is all subject to change.

I plan a few months in advance but inevitably end up on the "what I can, when I can" plan.  I think I need to improve my time management skills.

"The best laid plans of mice and men"

I usually have grand plans but inevitably they go to crap and it turns into what do I feel like doing today. I am 7 weeks out from IM AZ and am undertrained and making it up as I go. I have had at least 6 or 7 different plans that I have started to follow before getting totally off and on to the next one.

I don't have any plans set in stone per se. I have my 2009 A race picked out and paid for, IMKY. And I know I want to do a sprint, oly and HIM before then but I don't have a training plan written out yet. I have a marathon in 2 weeks. After that I'll take about a month with no structured training and I'll start laying a base again in December. A more concrete plan will come in Jan.

I normally plan my A-races ~6 months in advance then fill the gaps as races come up.  A week before my last A-race, an Olympic, I decided why not try a HIM that was only 4 weeks away Smile

I definitely am more disciplined with a plan.  I just started one of the BT winter plans since my last couple of weeks were pretty weak.  I was on the "I should do something later today" plan, which turned into "I'll do something after dinner" which became "I'll do something after I rest", which became "I'll do something tomorrow" plan.  Not good.

Current plan is set for the next 13 months; HIM Oceanside April and then IMAZ Nov 09.  Will have to see what unfolds over the next year with life, the economy, and such, but for now it's ready to go!  Even fit in the necessary rest/recovery time between to get all the dates set.

I know it is not necessarily the right way to do it, but I just play it day by day.

I know in general what I want to do, but everything hinges upon what is going on at home and at work and to a lesser extent the weather.  I know when my races are, I know what my target volume is and how far before my A race I want my maximum workload to occur.  From there, I just generally try to get in the workouts once a day when not peaking and two to three times when building to a peak.  It is working OK for now but might try to optimize later by following a plan.

I just signed up for an 11.5 trail run (in Feb) and will now focus my training on that. I find it easier to train if I have something to set my sights on. Training just to train can be (for me) boring.

I like to set a goal and work my way to it...

Sometimes, it can be a few weeks out (like my first tri!), but usually it's going to be a few months out.

I don't have a training plan at all. I have structured swim workouts (I'm on a swim team), but every thing else is pretty much me doing whatever I feel like, whenever I feel like. I don't slack off- I usally get in about 2 hours a day, six times a week; I just don't have a structured plan.

There are so many things I am eager to do in this sport that it is really hard to just decide on one plan. I try to keep picking one, but end up just changing my mind all the time!

Usually no more than 3 weeks (though I'll have a general PLAN in mind for progressions in distance or seasonal plans for integrating more intense work).

That's not saying that my actual "training" follows the plan though...

I just committed to do the Sarasota Half Marathon in February, following the Galloway first-timer plan which runs seventeen weeks.  My plan is also tied into my weight loss goal and the need to get my triglycerides down.

I've never followed a plan, but more or less because I didn't have the endurance to need a plan. I plan to do my first half-mary in May and I'll follow a plan for that.

Similar. I sometimes manage to plan a few hours, or even days, in advance but I'm quite often just winging it and making up a workout on the fly. I do have a masters coach for some of the swimming. For the last couple of years in the spring I've also done progressive weekend long runs with a local marathon club. I've done a lot of reading and research too though, so I usually have some method to my madness. Maybe some day I'll get serious about this.

I've paid for 3 races in 2009 so my training schedule is up to the last one of those

This is me, but I am also planning my off-season training. I am planning daily on the trainer and jogging or walking when I can outside. Swimming will be once I join my masters group.

I have 2009 planned down to the day until my A race on July 26th, some inconsequential race in Lake Placid.

Personally, I do not follow a "plan". When I trained for my ironman this year I looked at a number of plans, started low volume and added each week until I got to high volume. Of course I had no variation in intensity like most plans do but it got me through.

For instance, I am now training for a 50 k in February so my master plan is to do a couple runs during the week and a long run on the weekend, last weekend I did an hour forty minutes, next weekend I am going to up that and so on. I am sophisticated enough to scale back every 2 or 3 or 4 weeks for that infamous recovery time. However, this time I am going to try to through in some vo2 max, threshold, and interval training, which to me just means try to run faster than I normally do.

That all being said, I have race goals that go to 2011, so there defintly is a macroplan.
