In the shower?
Didn't George Costanza get booted from his NY club for peeing in the locker room shower?
Now I feel obligated to answer the poll publicly - I NEVER go in the pool.

The snot is a toughie. If I know I have to blow, like today, I keep a snot rag on the deck to use. But when it's unexcpected, should it go in the gutter? Does it then get filtered out, or does it just come right back in?
Yeah! A really gross thread!

Stopping and getting out of the pool is a great way to take a break from a hard workout.

It's a great way to lose your lane, too.

Joel, I can't believe you started this thread!  I was alright with the topic, until Brett admitted blowing snot all over the place!

Joe - I think you're a little sensitive with your personal pool "issues"
Don't worry, I'm not going to drive an hour to get in your pool!

Awww, nasty!!!!!! Brett, considering I swim at the same pool as you, this was way more than I wanted to know!  Remind me to never share a lane with you

I have enough problems dealing with 'floaties', Big Bertha kicking me and having to play dodgeball!  (I've solved that last one - the ball comes in my lane, and it gets launched to the far side of the building...)

No. I only swim 30 and 45 minutes at a time, and if I can't hold it that long, I get out. :P
When I had a swim class awhile ago, me and maybe one other person would get out of the pool during class (this was an hour and 1/2 long class, I have to go at least once being in a pool that long). I prefer to think that the rest of my class were in their late teens/early twenties and have far more resiliant bladders than my elderly self.

I'm just about to hit that very same pool for my swim at lunch. Thanks for this thread. *blech*

I think you guys are a bunch of hypocrits. You all freely admit to peeing in the open water right before a race, but not the pool. Right before a race, there are a hundred people standing right next to you! If you know anything about diffusion, you'll know that even if you pee during the race, folks are gonna be swimming through that (unless you're last, in which case, be my guest). Diffusion doesn't happen THAT quickly.

Pee is for toilets, bushes and the spot between 4 cars in big parking lots, people. Have some couth.

I ALWAYS pee before I get into the pool.... I don't pee IN the pool... Although I do pee in my wetsuit...which is used for open water swims, which was previously used by my brother in law, who peed in it too. Ugh.

This is so disgusting. Makes me sick reading it. That's why when I'm rich I'm going to install a 25-yd lap pool at my house. No one swims in it but me!

I forgot about snot.  Since I breath out my nose I know I'm blowing snot sometimes--especially if I've been a bit congested.  I don't think twice about this.  Hmm.  Maybe the pee thing is OK too.

If it is limited to pee in the pool I could probably live with it..anything else and you may end up like Joe with turd-o-phobia. I myself..will not pee in the pool - I get out and go the 3 feet to the hot tub to do that..that thing is disgusting anyway.

The sign at my neigbor's pool when I was a kid:

"Welcome to our ool. Notice there's no "P" in it. Let's keep it that way!!"

I think the fact that this is even up for debate says a lot about what's wrong with SOME people in society today. If you, as an ADULT, are so selfish, inconsiderate and lazy that you would rather purposely piss in water that other people take into their mouths and ears, then you've got bigger problems than an overactive bladder and have no business of having the privelage of sharing the pool with others. ... stepping down from soapbox

ugh - nasty. i will echo the earlier comment about bandaids - SICK. pee may be more gross but at least you can't see it! never P in the ool, besides, i always heard rumors that you can add chemicals to the pool that make urine show a bright red color or something, so everyone knows immediately if you wizz in your lane. boy, wouldnt that be embarassing!

I never pee in the pool but FYI pee dissolves in the average pool in less than 10 seconds from chlorine.

What you guys don't pee in the pool? I thought everyone did...

A couple weeks ago my Coach was surprised when I got out of the pool to take a leak. I think the expectation at that pool is to just let loose. He probably thought I was loafing. Oh well...

Just think of all the nasties in the water. In summary:

    1. Pee
    2. Snot
    3. Sweat
    4. Spit
    5. Did someone wipe well?
    6. Ear wax
    7. Band Aides w/ blood
    8. Blood w/o Band Aides
    9. Love juice
    10. When was the last time that guy showered?
    11. Hair and Skin
    12. Barf

Pour me a tall glass of pool water!

no kidding. a woman i know was asked to leave a local pool because she was breast feeding her baby on the pool deck. now, in minnesota, its the law that a woman can breastfeed where ever she would otherwise legally allowed to be. the lifeguard said it was because breastmilk is a bodily fluid, which it is, but hey...what else did he think was in the pool? anyway, she didn't leave and the director of the pool ended up making a HUGE apology.
