Now I wish I had children because this would be a valid reason to start selling them.

Scott, are you getting one? Envious minds want to know

For myself? probably not, since I'm not racing anymore. But I've been known to make illogical decisions when it comes to new bikes and what my "needs" are.

I'll certainly have some in the store once they start shipping in March.

I hope that achilles is doing better.

You would have to be pretty fast to ride a bike like this.  Can you imagine all the snerks you would get as folks on lessor bikes passed you.  I just could not take that risk.

There is a simple solution to this.

Swim faster so they don't catch you until the run!

Is that even possible?  I thought that's why people pay so much for a fast bike.  So that people couldn't pass them.  The one with the most expensive bike wins right?  I would think with a bike like that you would barely even have to pedal to get yourself a podium spot!

Good point... then again it would ensure that I would work my @$$ off to make sure that didn't happen. I really don't think my ego could handle getting passed on a bike that likely will cost more then my first and second car.

You could always buy the p5 and then let me ride it... Best of both worlds... you own the hottest bike around, you don't get passed on course

Glass is half empty!

I imagine all the snerks I GIVE when people pass me on their crappy bikes. Yeah, you may be faster, but I look 10x cooler and the hot chicks have no idea where you finish anyway....

If I said it once, I've said it a thousand times....it's all about how cool you look walking through transition....

Wow, well spoken and accurate. Any other hints on how to swagger through transition?

If I'm not mistaken, a key skill when walking through transition is holding the urine covered seat rather steering the bike than bars.

I'm gonna get a cardboard poster and tape it to the sides of my ride. Wait till they give me a double take in transition.  I will be soooo cool it will hurt.

Fred D - 2012-01-16 5:57 PM Looks like a nice bike. I definitely am more partial to the Shiv, but that's a matter of personal taste. I think the biggest obstacle for Cervelo is that they are getting to the next generation of TT bikes late. Specialized, Trek had the 'advanced nose cone' look out first. These like the shiv and the Speed concept are not cheap bikes, but will Cervelo sell mainly more P2, P3s or will they start to sell enough of the 4 or 5s? Yes I know the P4 was an 'it' bike as well, but my understanding is not as much as the other 2 I mentioned. Curious to hear others thoughts on this one?

I agree, they were ahead of the curve but seemed to have lost momentum, especially with the delay of the P5. I was looking at the SC 9 bike at my LBS. It has just come back from IMAZ and was dirty but with the Zipps on, but still looked like a rocket. Cost as much as one, too. Haven't seen a Shiv in person yet.

I think, assuming the P5 really performs as well as anticipated and the price point is right they will do well. I have no doubt they will pull out all the stops when it comes to marketing. Cervelo is still considered a premium brand, but if they drop the ball that might be it for the company. Lots riding on the P5.

I know they're selling a lot of P2's and P3's right now. I and my 'share the ride buddy' can account for one of each!

I do agree that from a market perception the P4 didn't fall into the "super bike" category because it lacked the integrated front-end that has come to be a trademark of "super bikes". However I wouldn't say that it lacked in performance. It stacked up well in terms of CdA against all of the current "super bikes".

The P5 certainly addresses the "super bike" appearance. I know amongst Cervelo's goals for this bike were that it be faster then the P4; easier to work on and travel with then other integrated bikes; and fit a broader range of athletes then many of the current integrated bikes. It's impossible to tell from looking at photos if it's succeeded in any of those goals.

Well they now have the superbike price tag, too. Frameset $6k, bikes from $8k.

My new P2 at $1800 is looking better all the time.

Fred D - 2012-01-16 4:00 PM  Perception is bigger than reality.

Absolutely. The P4 according to the smartest people I know is still the fastest bike right now.

The P5 will be faster. But, as you mentioned, perception is everything. If people think a Specialized Shiv is more better....a wind tunnel diagram ain't gonna sway them. They need to put something out that looks and feels top notch...and that might include making it very expensive. That's part of the perception.....

You really think a Ferrari costs 10x more than a BMW M3? No, but part of the allure, is the knowledge that you know that they know what you paid for it.

Fred D - 2012-01-16 7:28 PM Other knock is difficulty is travel, mainly assemby as well. Although I've heard the speed concept is even worse? Again asking.

I've traveled with my SC.  Yes, there was definitely a learning curve getting it disassembled.  (The amount of disassembly required to get it into a box is not any different from other tri bikes -- wheels off, derailleur off, bars off, seat and post off -- but the method is not what you'd e familiar with from other bikes.)  So, the first time I did it, it took a while, and several looks at the manual.  The second time, it was fairly quick.
