Subject: House Shoe Recommendations for Sore Feet?

Hi All,

I'm getting married and the fiance isn't a big fan of my wearing 'outdoor' shoes inside.  She wants me to get some house shoes or a pair of slippers.  My problem is that I'm currently suffering from a bout of Plantar Faciitis and would like to wear my supportive running shoes as often as possible to keep from aggravating it.  Does anyone have a suggestion for a model or brand for supportive/comfortable house shoes or slippers?

Thanks,

laugher

Why not get a second pair of the supportive runners that are for indoor only.

This...  If they stay in the house, they are just sturdier house slippers...

I am a little surprised that since this is a medical thing and you sort of need them, she is still not permiting it?  I mean, I can see that she doesn't like it, but if it's for injury recovery...    That would sort of be like if I needed crutches to get around if I broke a leg but the wife saying no since she didn't like the "hole marks" it put in the carpet.

Try some of the $5 Birkenstock knock-offs from Wal-Mart. Pretty comfy. Or just go barefoot.

Check out Orthaheel sandals or flip flops. They're comfy and supercool. Well, actually, they're comfy.

I keep several pairs of my old running shoes around -- take out the laces, wash them, and presto ... several pairs of running slippers that I wear around the house.  They're great.

This.   OR a pair of Keen Sandals.  I have a pair of each for house shoes and I am rarely without them.

My husband is a big "no shoes in the house", and I have a history of PF.   My feet hurt if I go barefoot in the house all day.     I have a pair of crocs that are for inside only.    For winter, i have a brand of slipper called "acorn" that has a cork sole and arch support, with wool on top to keep me warm.

If you really like your shoes and don't want to buy a different pair, you could always buy some disposable shoe covers (think hospital) and put them on while you are in the house.  You can reuse each pair for awhile.

When I had PF I used Crocs inside (not for public use) and still use them for long bouts of cooking because I have hard tile floors.

Tell her you're the man of the house and you will do what you want, besides how is she going to tell what you are or aren't wearing around the house when she is in the kitchen?!?

But seriously, I can't contribute from personal experience about PF.... but I did a search :-)

I also have found crocs to be very comfortable! No PF for me, but very high arch and somewhat picky feet...

I wear Crocs, too.

My husband favors these:  http://www.landsend.com/pp/mens-all-weather-slipon-shoes~225235_-1.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::ZME&CM_MERCH=IDX_shoes-_-men&origin=index

I'd also be behind a clean pair of sneakers.   You could retire your current pair early, put them through a wash cycle, air dry, and they are like new.   In this case I guess you'll have to pick the rocks out the tread.

I want to bring to your attention two items. First, there is doctor out there by the name sock-doc. He has a very different approach to supportive shoes. Be that as it may, I am more interested in you paying

extra attention to the second item.

Second, if you get your feet good, deep massage, your problem will go away.

I have a perfect substitute for the hands of a massage therapist.
Get gravity-powered deep tissue massage by simply standing on the surface
of nestoit-gravity black bar with bulging veins. Check it out, test it out. Be blown away by what
this product can do for your feet.

Go barefoot.  I attended a seminar where the data presented suggest wearing shoes allows for your muscles to get weak causing more problems rather than solving them.

I am bare foot nearly always and have been for years.  But this new place I live in is all tile and let me tell you, the feet get sore and tired after standing on them doing dishes or cooking.  I have taken to wearing my flip flops in the house when I know I am going to be standing for a bit of cushion.  And I am one of those that hates footwear in the house

I don't wear shoes inside but I got these for free

Sauconey recovery shoes

http://www.saucony.com/store/SiteController/saucony/productdetails?...

Sometimes, after a hard run I will put them on. They do feel super nice.

And will make your man happy because they look like slippers.
