Pre-race routine:

Woke up had coffee. Decided I could do a TT today. Packed car and drove to TT site. Registered. Shivered. 56 degrees the fourth week of July in Iowa--WTF?
Event warmup:

Rode 3 miles to the start--please read as not enough warm-up. This was the first physical activity I've done since my HIM on Sunday. I still have some neck/shoulder pain, but it is much, much better.

Is there a car back? Right on, I'm gonna have to take your word for that cause Mama can't turn her head for chit yet.

Comments:

This was my first TT and my legs were still feeling my HIM from Sunday. There is nothing quite like thinking "Hey, I'm doin OK at this multi-sport thing. I can do this" and then going to an event that is specific to one of our three sports and getting your azz handed to you by people who do that sport. LOL! Very humbling.

There was only one other women in my age group (she races elite and has been cycling for a long time), but she beat me by 4 minutes. That's a fachload of time. Not even with race wheels and fresh legs do I think I could touch that. It made me realize just how much more I need to really work and--hopefully--that there is lots of room for improvement.

That being said, I'm really glad I did it. It was a good time, nice people, fun little after party. I definitely worked much harder than I would have on a trainer ride or a group ride, so that alone is a win right there.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. It was fine all things considered.
Post race
Warm down:

Rode back to my truck had a beer. Watched someone win a beautiful HED disk in a raffle. Had race wheel envy. Got over it;)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Legs still tired from my HIM, not enough of a warm up, waiting to go (1 minute intervals) for 16 minutes and it was chilly. If I had it to do over again, I would have gone out for a light spin the day before to get out the post-race crud and would have taken about 15 more minutes to really warm up.

Event comments:

Everything seemed fine about this TT. I might even give it a 5, but I have nothing to compare it to. It was totally g2g, and if you're ever in IC and want a TT, this would be a good one.

Nice job, and good for you getting out there to do it, even when you weren't feeling 100%.

Nice job. I think it is a good addition to the knowledge base when you get your can handed to you. It makes you realize the work that it takes and I find myself pushed to improve. Another step in your forward progress to the goal!

Dangit woman - you're making me want to get out there and try a TT now!

But not against you.  You're way too freakin' fast for me.  Nice job rockin' this on not-so-fresh legs.

You bloody-well ROCK!

Nice job getting out there. I agree that it's a whole different animal when you get around single sport peeps. "They" say the best way to improve is to run with runners, bike with cyclists and swim with swimmers. You totally rock the tri thing so the single sport will make you a force to be reckoned with for sure!

Very impressive performance.  TT's sound like a lot of fun.  I guess I'm another that would like to give one a shot.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.  I am definitely motivated by failure.  I know this wasn't "failure" but it really makes me want to do it better next time, an it most definitely ensures there will be a "next time" :)

If you haven't done a TT yet, it's really a cool format. Doooooooooo Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! I could see working these into a training plan with some regularity next season. Someone was trying to talk me into to trying a crit, and that is where I stop the crazy train.  Hellz to the no.

You do have to put up with quite a bit of "tri" crap from the cyclists...I'm sure (think? hope?) it's mostly good-natured.   They got beat-up at school as kids or something ;P

Nice job.  TT's or bike races in general seem really intimidating at first but they're really a lot of fun.  It can be extremely humbling at times, but it also shows how much room for improvement you have.

I think what you did, and how it turned out and what you learned are a lot more valuable than nailing it the first time. Smile

I imagine you will never be 100% satisfied with your results and that is what makes you a great athlete.

Awesome job!
