Chasing a 1 year old surely counts as some sort of training!

Originally posted by Hot Runner Happy Thanksgiving! Sunny but cold day here after first snow of the year yesterday (typically for Oregon, it all melted a few hours later). Had a nice run and got started on Black Friday shopping. Making a big assumption that I will still be able to compete after all the metal comes out of my arm (and will have the time to train with what seems to be a job and a half lately), but am getting myself a dreadmill, swim snorkel (since it hurts to breathe to the right and I'm getting really tired of always breathing to the left), swim parka (cause the Y pool deck is COLD although water is nice, and my only other option is a year-round outdoor pool!), and a couple pairs of my favorite goggles, which don't seem to be sold locally anywhere (I always stocked up in Singapore). I don't know about others but goggles drive me NUTS! I have a small head so have to find women's, "small fit", or even Junior if I want them to actually fit. For every three pairs I have tried, maybe one actually works. No idea about race plans for next year. Waiting to see how swimming feels after recovering from surgery and guess will just take what is open and doable then.

You sound like Kevin and I with Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. A  few weeks ago I started a list of all of the gear that we need to replace so that I could target that stuff if it went on sale!

Have you scheduled the metal removal?

Yep, sadly, metal removal is scheduled for December 26. Would really like to have done it earlier (the doctor thought it could safely be removed in October) and travel somewhere warm in December instead, but I wasn't sure how much time off from work I'd need and didn't want a sub for a long time. (I have a pretty high-maintenance group this year, and getting them back on track after that would probably be worse than actually showing up and teaching them when in pain.)

Hopefully will need minimal or no additional time off from work after the Christmas break. (I'll have about ten days to recover; 12 without the kids.) Really not how I want to spend my break, but it is what it is. The whole year has sort of been like that...grit your teeth and get through it day by day, so I guess the last days of 2019 will be par for the course.

I'm so glad to hear that it's scheduled! I'm sure that it will be a huge relief!  I'm also stoked that you were able to get it scheduled this year -- freeing up 2020 for AWESOMENESS!

Yep, pretty sure that's a lock for us! The older I get, the further out I seem to be planning races. Shouldn't it be the opposite?

Anyone else considering it? CDA 2021!

Congrats on meeting your 10k goal! Always sneaky when they add in those extra partial miles.
What's the deal with those Garmin lactate thresholds? I got a new one yesterday, but wasn't sure how accurate it was. I did a VO2Max treadmill test (breathing into the mask and all that) back in June, so I'm not sure if that compares to what Garmin is doing.

It sounds both exciting and expensive! We'll need a full race report!

I've got a rental house open, the commute might be a little long.

It sounds like there may be some interesting developments in the syncing from non-Garmin area.  Maybe. Hopefully.

hahahaha!
Call with a lender this evening, viewings on Sunday. Ack! It's becoming real!
Also - I have no motivation to train now. We haven't even started the stressful part of moving and I can't get anything done. This is just the fun looking at houses part. Ughhhhh.

Hey Manatees - i saw a post on the Another Mother Runner instagram and it got me thinking. Lots of people have been commenting about how it's the end of a decade. These things don't really mean much in the grand scheme but it is interesting to think and reflect on 10 years passing.

The question they posed which i think will be an awesome one for us was about what happened since 2010 and what are you proud of? Sports accomplishments are obviously a part of it but life too!!
