For me, if I get out of the water by the cutoff time...

2:10 on the swim.
7:30 on the bike.
6:00 on the run.

We'll be neck in neck with each other. At least I'll have some company. But really, just want to survive the swim (not drown) and finish.

This will be my 3rd, 1st time at IMAZ. I've done IMC in 2006 and 2005.

I learned about an hour in to the bike on my first IM to adjust time goals on the fly... I got three flats in that race.

I'd like to better my last IMC time and do something like Out of T1 by 1:10 total time, Out of T2 6:30 total time and any where near a 4 hour run would be pretty damn good for me. So if I finish in under 11 hours, I'm pretty much HAPPY! Those are realistic IM pace goals swim and bike wise for me. On the run, 4 hours is bit on the fast side of guessing (I'm about a 3:30 marathon runner with modest training).

Last year I had two goals:

1) Finish without injury - I succeeded.
2) Finish in under 14 hours - my finish time was 13:21.

This year, I am intentionally NOT setting a time goal. Instead, I have per-discipline goals to stick to my race plan. Here's what I'm thinking right now is my race plan:

Swim - swim strong and steady, with excellent pull. Stay on the course and don't go wide. Get out of the water and not be dizzy (remember to exhale fully). Steady effort is the key.

T1 - don't take so long people wonder if I'm blow drying my hair like last year's 12 minutes - just in and out, with no mistakes or fiddling finding my gear - and run from the swim finish to the tent, not walk

Bike - maintain aero position 90% of the way, steady cadence, HR at whatever HR my coach wants (probably 150 or so), remember my nutrition and electrolyte tablets, don't get lazy on the downhills, don't get aggressive on the hills. Strong steady pacing is the key.

T2 - again, in and out without fooling around. Last year was OK, do it again but a little faster

Run - last year was great, but do better. Run to RPE but observe HR and don't go too far paste lactate balance until the middle at least. The key point here is all out effort without blowing up.

The whole point of not having a time goal is that I think if I'm behind my time goal, I worry about it too much and it distracts me from my race plan and encourages me to chuck it and do something else. If I'm ahead of my time goal, then I risk leaning back and not putting in the max effort my race plan because it's in the bag.

It's that girl's time at IMAZ 06, with a whole bunch of Kona '03 footage thrown in from the intro 5 mins of the NBC coverage.

Sorry...you probably mean the song, not the video. My bad.

"Name of the Game" by Crystal Method. One of my more common work out tunes. It's almost exactly 180 bpm, too.

Oh, and more trivia....featured in Blade 2 (when the vampires break their deal with Blade and he kicks a bunch of red bike) and the opening cinematic sequence from the first Splinter Cell game.

I hate swimming pretty much, so just finish that event. The rest depends on if i spot an In and Out hamburger joint along the way. that will add a few minutes. After todays bike ride, bad day, i might as well give up on a bike goal. Oh did i mention the run? I am still working on the crawling technique. Got it nailed i figure. What do the pro's do it in? hmmm. No, i am not a treat to them.

The In and Out hamburger joint is just off the run course. It is even on the map... see below.

Oh.... my goal is to finish while the sun is still shining.
