Total Time = 2h 26m 46s
Overall Rank = 54/262
Age Group = f30-34
Age Group Rank = 3/11
Pre-race routine:

Got up, dressed, PBJ bagel and one bottle of Sustained Energy. Went to TA, set up, checked out the swim area and the bike and run starts. Then headed to the coffee shop for a buzz and a real bathroom :) TA closed at 8 and our wave didn't start until 9:10. We got to TA before 7 to get decent spots too so we had too much time.
Event warmup:

10' jog with a few pickups about an hour before the race and about 3-400 yds swimming 15' before the start.
Swim

Comments:

This was a SOLID swim for me. I was the 3rd woman out of the water. There were 4 of us in the lead pack until the first bouy. At that point we had already caught a few stragglers from the first wave. the top 2 gals freaking took off around the bouy and myself and one other gal got a little caught. after that the sun was in my eyes and I couldn't see to catch the draft of the 2 speed demons. SHIT that would have been a good ride :) but I missed it ;( Oh well - this was still my best water performance. The masters and stroke analysis must have really paid off :)
What would you do differently?:

Stick with the two front running chicks. They were SHARKS!!

Comments:

THIS WAS A DISASTER!!!! I need to check my suit better next time. I though it stopped zipping up because it was at the top, but apparantly it was stuck on the material. I could not get it unstuck!!! I get to my spot still messing with it, then had to run back to the trans entrance to get a volunteer to get it off me. Once it was unzipped, it flew off, but man that cose me a full minute! By that point I was so pissed that I also forgot to grab my gels. Once I got through TA, there was a longish run up this carpet with the bike to the mount area, which was flat. I pretty much jogged in my shoes and hopped on the bike, not pretty, but not bad either.
What would you do differently?:

Double check the zipper before the race start. Put the bento box on the bike so the gels are THERE not have to worry about shoving them in my pocket. Or maybe just swim with them in my pocket?
Bike

Comments:

Decent bike. My RPM's were great and my control on the hills was good, but I had NO fuel and I was actually hungry. The race stsarted later than I'm used to and I needed to eat more before the race. All in all this was decent, not great, but I'll take it :) I only got passed by one girl, but there were too many that were faster than me. I still need to keep working on the bike :)
What would you do differently?:

bring food. not do an FT test the week before. This was a B race, so pretty good for what I was trying to do.
Transition 2
  • 00m 43s
Comments:

Good fast T2 included downing a gel and I was the 2nd fastest woman in T2 :)
What would you do differently?:

nada!
Run
  • 46m 54s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

In hind sight, this was not a bad run. It was in fact a touch faster than any run last year, so I should not be disappointed. But it hurt and I KNOW I have more than this in me. I didn't have any gels on the bike, so I downed 2 within the first mile of the run then had stomache issues. And also slight shin splints after the stairs. ANYWAY, all that aside, it was a decent run and I know it wasn't my best.
What would you do differently?:

fuel on the bike, hydrate better.
Post race
Warm down:

walk, get in the 62 degree water to cool down, chat and relax :) Then drive to vegas :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

early season, fueling badly, and the heat.

Event comments:

So this was a decent race. There were a LOT of volunteers, but there were a LOT of intersections. The water station volunteers were kids and a little flippy, but tried :)

OK, so my HR never got above 184 - and my LT is 193. I was definately still either fatigued from last week's hard work or I was dehydrated, but either way it was out and back and the out SUCKED!!! The back wasn't as bad.
Course: Out and back up stairs on the way out, then false flat up to the turnaround, then ff down to the stairs. On the way back the wind was in my face - which was good because it helped me stay cool. Kathleen and one other girl smoked by me on the run. I just couldn't hang.

Awesome race! If you are this fast in April you will be scary fast once the season gets into full swing!

ETA: I mean March. Start of the season, whatever. You get the idea.

For no real taper and just using this race as an early season check, it looks like you did pretty well. At least now you know what you want/need to focus on so you can be fully primed for the big races later on. And you got a couple of fun days in Vegas out of it too! Nice job.

Looks like a great "Warmup" for a really strong season

No taper going into this and with a solid performance with a podium finish. (Tapering is Over-rated)

WOW!!  I'm so stoked that you got some hardware although I'm not completely surprised   Aside from the wetsuit snafu, you had great splits!!
