The ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon
75F / 24C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 55m 14s
Overall Rank = 1170/8917
Age Group = 30-35
Age Group Rank = 303/1317
Pre-race routine:

took marta from north springs, had a breakfast cookie, downed some powerade and some water. Hit the porta potty, grabbed a water and drank it while I weaved my way toward the front (about middle of pack staring position) Did a GU at about 6:50
Event warmup:

stretched while in line- set up my playlist for the run.
Run
  • 1h 55m 14s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

First mile was spent weaving through the crowd- trying to get on pace. from mile 3 to about 9 I was in the zone. The course was pretty challenging and tougher than my first half mary- which I was trying to best. I started fading at mile 10 and struggled until I was near the finish- thats when the adrenaline took over and I just let her rip. I was in the 170's and 180's most of the last 4 miles and the last mile was all uphill- brutal. I left nothing on the table and feel really good about my finish and accomplishing my goals.
What would you do differently?:

longer training runs- my long runs have been 10 miles and mile 10.5 is when it got tough- other than that- no regrets, I gave 100 percent
Post race
Warm down:

walked, stretched, iced the knee, got some water, bagel, yogurt, and banana. legs were very tight and still are so lots of stretching still on the agenda.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

battled some sick time over the last several weeks- so my longest run has been 10.5 miles outside of the last half marathon- thats probably why I struggled the last 3 miles.

Event comments:

Great first time event- it lived up to the hype. Volunteers were awesome and the spectators were great- very positive experience. I bested my last half by 6+ minutes on a tougher course and blasted my sub 2:00 goal. My only complaint is I could not get a beer afterwards :). (georgia cannot serve until noon on sundays)

Congrats on PR Greg. Somehow I managed to miss BT-ers this race. PTC has started Wed nights again, maybe we'll run in to each other at one of those.
