Ugh.......I know no one will remember me, but I was here and full of enthusiasm back in the spring of 2005. And now, here it is, wrapping up 2007 -- and what happened in-between? NOTHING!! I let life get in the way. Actually I did a sprint and an olympic summer of 2005, but did so badly in each that I felt embarrassed in front of my wife and kids, and for myself! I also did the Seattle-to-Portland bike ride (206 miles) in one day (and ended up with serious male 'plumbing' problems for over a year afterward!! And from there, I let it slip away. I think I ran a half marathon the follwing year ('06), maybe a couple 5Ks as well......but I stopped 'training' and ......like I said in the beginning, "Ugh!".

So now here I am again, on the cusp of 2008, surprised that I still remembered my login info! My old training data from 2005 is still there. I even recognize many BTer names and I am seriously proud of those who have hung on and succeeded at this challenge called triathlon.

I started running again about 2 months ago and have shaved 10 minutes off my 10K PR. I still weigh too much (I should lose 50 pounds, from 230 to 180), but I'm ready to start tracking what I eat again and making better choices. I still have my bike and my trainer....heck, the wetsuit's still hanging in the closet where I last hung it in Aug '05.......I'm getting it all out again and dusting it off.

I met a new friend at work who was a triathlete 20 years ago, and we have decided to work back into it together. This will be a big help -- see, my job has me living overseas and it's very difficult to find that 'group motivation' and training. If I spoke Korean, I'd be golden because there are a LOT of triathletes and pure runners in Korea!

Wish me luck, and I look forward to getting to know all you awesome people again!! This is an incredible site!

I remember you!  Glad you're back.  We joined BT about the same time...

hey don't fret.  our personalities make it so that we go 0% or 120%...we don't know anything about "moderation"

welcome back and hope you stay 110%!

Welcome back.

I had a 17 year lay off from Tri's so I understand where your coming from. I got back into it last January (2007), and found this site in August. As you already know you'll find plenty of help and info here to get you through.

Good luck with all your training.

Rottieguy, it must be something in the local water! I grew up there on Sheldon Road in Northville (between 6 and 7 Mile). Plymouth Canton and Northville had some great sports rivalries back in the day (and maybe still, but I left Mich when I was 18....28 years ago!)

Good to know the sport is always there waiting patiently for us.

Thanks for the warm welcome back everyone! I set my bike up this afternoon, checked my wetsuit for any signs of decay (it's fine), and am re-reading my Eric Harr book. I now need t0o go in and pay the $40 monthly for pool use at the gym and get started on that. As for most pople, swimming is absolutely the hardest part of this whole thing for me......but I guess it's the challenge of overcoming sucking at something that others can do so well that motivates me to conquer the water.......

Again, thanks for the inspiration to go forward, and Happy Holidays everybody!!

See you at STP 2008-The 2 day option is actually FUN.  Good luck.  You've already taken the hardest step.

Jeff, I won't be doing any more STPs!! I finished that sucker 2.8 times (one-days) and that's enough for me! (The point-8 time came in the second attempt when a crew vehicle forced my buddy and I to call it a night at about 11:30pm and still 20 miles from the finish). I enjoyed the times I did it, though, and they've provided some great stories to the encyclopedia of family lore .

There are a couple

Mostly they are Triathletes that were here first that I recruited for the game. If you hit my friend's list, you will probably recognize a few.

I wish SeoulRunner would get interested in Tri, but she's not keen on the bike. Plus she needs all her time getting ready for 100K's and other Marathon Maniac types of endeavors. She's pretty much my idol these days

BTW, I see you live in one of the most awesome places I know. We were able to spend a few just up the coast a bit at Newport Beach summer '06. What a gorgeous place......I could easily live there (well, not in the $$ sense , but spiritually speaking

Enjoy your weather!

Gee, thanks....now that you've planted that song in my head, I'm going to have to start humming "The Gambler" to get rid of it......and from there it's a cyclical sucking downward spiral into madness!!

The name is familiar and I'm pretty sure I've seen that avatar before.
Welcome back, have fun, and don't worry so much about how you compare to others. If you keep at it, you'll make gains too. Have you ever read the article about "that guy"? With your background, you may already be "that guy" to someone.
