  • Comments: I would strongly recommend the Osprey Sprint to anyone. Beginners will feel a great sense of accomplishment. Veterans will probably get PR. I loved going in to Ocean City afterwards and eating Thrasher fries and watching people. There was also a wine festival going on.

  • Comments: The appeal of this race is the high percentage of newbies due to the "easy course." It is not intimidating to the beginner. You see people from all walks and lives, showing up, and it seems like everyone you talk to is doing their first ever triathlon. The race organization itself is very laid back, which has its pluses and minuses. A few years ago they were flexible enough to change the race date to Sunday at the last minute due to a big storm roughing up the waters too much for a swim. This year, we didn't even have helmet and bike stickers. You might see a 60 year old guy/woman doing his/her first ever triathlon, as well as guy pulling up next to the start with his boat, planning on keeping his bike on his boat for the transition (and probably some beer ;-)). I wonder what the race people would have done if I didn't tell him to rack his bike last year. :-) The course itself is kind of boring but if you like the Eastern Shore of Maryland, you will like the course. The swim

  • Comments: I always enjoy this race - low key, great venue. Not much post-race, but it's small (<400 racers) and put on my a non-profit. Thought about coaching football today, but I'm glad I decided to wind up my tri season, what there was of it, with the Osprey.

  • Comments: I am pleased overall with this result as it shows an improvement from last year of 6 1/2 minutes. Some of which is conditioning and some is mental. The weather was enjoyable but not ideal for very fast bike splits and the waves undoubtly posed some issues tooo. But unfortantly I was not able to stay to check out everybodies results. This due to a scheduleing error by the wife (thank goodness it was her) this same weekend is our annual church gathering. We have lectures all day out church in Catonsville until 5pm then a social at our house. We had 47 guests last night and I was host/grillman/boat driver and finally channel surfer. So immediately following the race I had to head home the 2 1/2 hours. Shower and get to church before the afternoon lectures. All went as planned and everyone had a great time. But I did have to explain the magic marker numbers on my arm to a lot of folks. :)

  • Comments: This is a fantastic course, just enough challenge. There were not nearly enough porta potties and no TP! I was so mad about that. I had to use the bathroom before the race, but the line was rediculous, there was no way that I was able to go and take off on time. Sherox had some potties in the secured transition area, which was nice for just the athletes. The transition area wasn't secured either (from theft) and the RD didn't encourage bikers to say "on your left" when passing, nor did anyone do it. Though the RD and everyone else was very friendly and everything was laid back and safe enough.

  • Comments: This was finish number 6 for me!!! This time last year I never would have believed I'd be able to say that. This race is an awesome way to wrap up the season. It's local, small, low key and fun. It's well organized and raises money for a great cause - the Maryland Coastal Bays Program.

  • Comments: My goal for this race was to place in my AG, so I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a touch disappointed. But, that is really kind of a nonsensical goal because you can only control what you do. I also should have looked at last years results a bit more closely. This year's #2 and #3 finished better than me last year as 39 y/o's (#2 was overall winner in '05). M40-44 is a tough AG. In a way I did achieved what I set out to do because I finished higher than last year's 3rd & 4th place finishers. Overall I'm very pleased with this race. I set a race PR by almost 3 min, including a race PR bike and run. I have room to improve on my swimming and that will be my focus (again) this winter. The Osprey is really a superb race. It's in a great location and it's well run. From a participation standpoint, it has the best of both worlds, in that it is a local low-key race that is beginner/not-so-serious athlete friendly, but also attracts some top notch athletes, including the Navy Tri team (M40-44

  • Comments: Amazing weather!!! Everyone there was so laid back and the race director eased any nerves I had by cracking jokes before the race started. I don't know my official position or times (the ones I posted were from my watch), but I do know the top six or seven finishers were all from the Naval Academy. The winner beat me by 45 minutes nearly! Definitely worth all the training. I wish the season wasn't ending because I loved every second of this triathlon and will certainly do it again.

  • Comments: I enjoyed my first Triathlon very much. Last year I was blown off by the NE storm. This spring I crashed the Mt Bike and broke ribs before Pocomoke. So on my third tri I am now a Triathlete. Looking forward to getting better and going longer next year. Actually several people I talked to said the sprint is tough due to the short all-out effort you need to give it. Funny comment from a Navy Tri-Girl she asked about the pacing for a sprint. She got 'If you are pacing ina sprint you are losing, this from one of the Navy men.

  • Comments: being my first triathlon, I felt it went pretty well, the swim was my real strong point and I know I didn't go all out on it either, I was taking my time, opening my stroke up and swimming my own cadence.
