Subject: Good bye.
As you all know, I haven't been around the site much for a few years.  During that time I have been transferring over all of the daily work to Alice, who is now your new leader officially as of August when the transition became official.  Alice did work for us as a content editor years ago and has grown her own web management and optimization firm.  As I was looking to hand over the site, there were a few opportunities that didn't pan out and I went back to Alice as I know she has the background to run it and will also be a good steward of it.  She was also a former user way back.

So what happened to me?  I have to admit, the redesign years-ago took a lot out of me.  As much as I planned for it, and used user feedback from polls and surveys, it was too much at once and it took us months to get it stable.  There were also some forum issues with people that, in hindsight, were not dealt with properly and to that I apologize and I take the blame.  I'm a very creative type so when it then came down to coming up with the next redesign (as most main features were done) and focusing on mobile, my heart wasn't in it.  Nothing was driving me anymore.  I wasn't creating...but just maintaining and optimizing.  I guess that's the nature of the web, and with that, Alice is perfect for this job.

Running BT for over a decade was extremely satisfying for the most part and you allowed me to work from home, which I am SO GRATEFUL FOR, as I am one of the few lucky Dads that could be 100% with their kids during their formative years - and it shows in how they turned out.  I wouldn't have done it any other way.

I have now moved on to new ambitions from resurrected old hobbies and degrees.  Working out has been hit-or-miss, but I still try to get out.  Swimming and strength training is still my favorite activity - running is easy if one is short on time.  Triathlon is still the greatest sport for the body and I hope to return to it when life calms down a little.

Thank you all.  You are in good hands.

Thanks for your confidence in me! And I appreciate the post. Of course you'll always remain welcome around here.

And to all of our users, you'll still see Ron's name as a moderator and here and there on technical things on the site. We'll transition those to me over time, and as we spot them.

Ron, a heartfelt thank you for all you've done for the triathlon community. I've been a member since 2005 - I remember the day I was poking around online for a sprint triathlon plan and found this site. Since then, I've logged every workout here for the past 12 years, completed so many goals and races, and made meaningful, lifelong connections. All thanks to this community and the work that people like you have put into it. It's a special place.

I will echo Lisa's comments.  I got the hair-brained idea to do a triathlon after watching my wife do a few of the Danskin triathlons in the early 2000s.  I stumbled across this site, joined in 2007, and finally got the nerve to complete one in 2010.  I think I asked about a thousand questions, which were always answered patiently by the crew here.

I've also recorded over seven years of workouts here.  I still like the interface better than anything else out there, even after the redesign.

So, thanks and good luck, Ron!

Ron,

Thank you for all that you have done for this community.  Through this site, you've helped untold number of newbies enjoy their first forays into what can initially be pretty intimidating sport.

I embarked on my first triathlon in 2003?  2004?  ( I think it's a race report still filed here somewhere ).  Through BT I was able to meet what have become lifelong friends through the sport of triathlon.  Some of us are still racing tris, others have moved to other sports ( cycling focused, or running, or other.... ) but all share a common bond that was forged here, and nearly all still remain in touch.

Heck, I met the love of my life through BT, and married her!  ( Hi Whizzzzz!!!! Yes, I'm gonna call you that )  WeI've taken a few years off from tris, but we plunged back in this past year and did our 3rd Ironman together ( 8th total for me, and 4th total for her ).  Energy, interest, and available time ebbs and flows, as it sounds like you are feeling at an ebb ( with respect to running this website ).  You've carried the torch for such a long time, and have positively impacted so many, it's definitely okay to pass the torch on to someone new to pursue what makes you happiest.  Know that we will always be grateful for what you created so many years ago, and we will always consider you a friend.

I don't log much here anymore, but I definitely still lurk and visit inspires for friends that are more active here.

Thank you again for all your blood, sweat, and tears.

Coredump, aka Dumpster, aka Mr Whizzzzz

Hello, TAN!  Uh, sorry.

Well, it's been a long time and you STILL haven't padded your post numbers.  Slacker.

Seriously, now:  With the wonderful world of the innerwebz, I was informed by a fellow BTer (Crowny) of this post.  It hit hard realizing how much time flew by.

I wish to thank you for all of your time, energy, effort, patience, persistence, support, determination, and care that you put in, gave out, and shared with the BT "family"/site!  Thank you for providing a "home" for many triathletes whether they were beginners/novices, intermediates, Age Groupers, or elites.  Most information was welcomed and very helpful.  I know I learned much!

The BT community will miss you, Ron!  I'm sorry if I caused you any headaches.

Hopefully, a multitude of past BTers will be posting, too, wishing you great wishes, since a few of us have been spreading the word once we heard.

Hang around a little longer, collect the posts, and make a gigantic card so that it shows you how many you have influenced.

Thank you!

BT literally changed my life. Not the triathlon part so much, I haven't done anything since 2016 for triathlon...but I met my husband and we are raising a future triathlete. (Or maybe she'll be something else...)

Thanks Ron!!

Ron,

Thanks for the site and all you have done. This site has been auto-opening every time I open my web browser for 10 years, and it done massive amounts for so many of us.

I'll never forget the laughs we (well at least me and Marma) had (at your expense) when you put your wetsuit on backwards at Rev3 Knoxville

Good luck in everything.
