How long have you been training for/participating in tri's and what is your resting heart rate?  Mine is at 52 currently.

This is my 4th season. When I started I was at 215 lbs with a RHR of 72. Now I am at 165 lbs and my RHR is 40 with some dips in the low 30's according to Polar.

Sometimes when I can't fall asleep I'll wait for the clock to change and then count the beats until it changes again. Usually in the 45-50 range. Been training for tri's since 2006 and started running mid-2005. Summer of 2002 was the last time I did anything "training" wise before that.

Great post......trng since 1/07.... resting hr down to around 42.......... max hr is 200+... 44 yrs old.... 220-age doesn't quite fit here... ( I know it's an approximation, several other methods to measure, etc..... let's don't start that hr range debate again here... )

5th year and in low 40s. In general mens lows are lower than women's low and it all individual and relative to yourself only. At peak fitness it will drop down a bit. So someone will RHR of 55 may be in better shape than another who's is 45.

Somewhere in the 50 range.

Low RHR is nothing important unless you use it as an indicator of whether or not you are recovering properly.  As in if you wake up every day and it is 50 - 52 and then after a few hard weeks of pushing it maybe it won't go below 58 or something.  This is a red flag that something may be going on in your body.

Like Max HR, it will vary by individual greatly.  There are elite marathoners whose resting HR is only around 60.  Doesn't mean someone who is in the 30's range is more fit, it just means their body is different.  Chances are, those elite marathoner also have a max of somewhere in the 200 range.

Training since 1-07, RHR low 40's.

Max heart rate according to stress test 203.  I'm 41, the 220-age formula doesn't work for the individual.

Interesting stuff....

Running off and on since 2001, tris since 4/06, ultrarunning since 7/07... yet my RHR has always been ~60.

This is my fourth season doing triathlons. I don't remember ever actually testing properly for a resting heart rate but I'd guess it's in the low 40s. My old Nike HR monitor had a built in low alarm at <50 and it would go off sometimes while I was standing around waiting for a group run to start. I've seen readings in the 40s at other times and usually test at 50 something during the pre-screening when I go to donate blood.

Edit: Like WaterDog66 below I'll let others debate any significance, but my max was 191 during a VO2max test this past spring and I'm 50 yrs old.

This is my 5th Tri Season and I am heading into my 3rd as a marathoner.

I have lost a total pf 50 Pounds and currently have a waking RHR of 42. (Down from something in the Mid-60s) My Max HR is 181 and as expected, is down a couple of beats from when I started to run a couple of years ago. (This is my tested Max, not calculated)

I will let the experts here debate the significance (Or Non-Significance) of HR stats

Aside from a few years when I was doing a lot of weight training and not getting much sleep (business venture), I've been doing some sort of endurance sport since jr high... I'm 44 now, so that gives an idea of the "how long" question.

My rhr is pretty low. Too low in some cases.  Most recently I did one of those blood pressure things at the local pharmacy. 45 bpm.

When I went in for my foot surgery (4 weeks ago tomorrow) and they did their monitor before I had any drugs, the alarms kept going off because my pulse was TOO low (32-36). The anesthesiologist had to give me drugs to get my pulse up before surgery.

I think that's kinda funny.  I'm guessing they're not used to that at all.

hmm.. I have no idea what my RHR is

RHR = resting heart rate. Basically it is your HR when you are at rest (sleeping, when you just waked up, laying on bed, etc). Some people use it as a metric to determine when you are getting fitter (it usually drops the fitter you are or as you get old) and to guesstimate when the athlete is over training (as RHR tend to increase). The only issue is tha HR can be affected by many other variables hence making training choices based on it (only) can be misleading. I hope that helps

I freaked the nurse out during a pre-op earlier this year.  My pulse in the doctor's office was 45.  I've seen my RHR at about 40 in the past year, but haven't checked it lately.  When I was younger and fit it was in the high 30s.

Laying down first thing in the morning 36-38 when I don't fall back asleep first (Age 46) HRmax 196 (the 220-age is bull).  I have been doing endurance stuff for 8 years, just turned to tris.
