There technically isn't a race yet.  With WTC taking over the TriColumbia stuff it remains uncertain if ChesapeakeMan continues or becomes Ironman Maryland (or whatever they'd call it) or is cancelled.

What do you all think the chances are they host it this year as Chesapeake Man and then starting in 2015, turn it into a IM branded full? I guess it would depend on the number of people registered for the event already but I am afraid the numbers will be minimal and WTC might pull the plug?

Also I was reading on ST the other day that Ulman Cancer Fund is making a play to purchase the rights to some of CTA's events. Nothing has been confirmed yet so who knows who will own what races. Anyone else hear this same info?

Looks like in the article he says that WTC is interested in Chessy and what it can bring to the region. I am sure they are going to do whatever they can do to turn it into an IM in the next 2 years.

I have an inkling this is a one and done...unless its wildly successful.  If not, I'm in for 2015. Having just did it in 2013, I need a break!

There is no way this will be a one and done race IMO. With as large of a triathlon population as there is in the Mid-Atlantic, a flat race in mild temps in the early fall which gives out kona slots will be around for a while. Numbers will grow after this year when people are not signed up for their IM's yet. I know people are already bailing on IMMT to race IMMD due to how close it is. Huge market for an M-Dot race in the Mid-Atlantic and people like flat and fast. I would not be surprised if WTC changes the run course/finish line for the race to bring some change just because they have more$$ then CTA did so they can afford more road closures, police, ems, etc.

I personally think its going to be a one year band aid. The only folks interested in it are local folks and ones looking for an "easy" ironman. Everyone else I have spoken to is not interested at all, and that is the common view on Slowtwitch as well.  This race is unique in that it was packaged in with Eagleman as needing to be saved--probably part of the agreement.  Ulman Cancer Fund is taking over the two shorter triahthlons (Columbia and Irongirl). I think if it sells out, then that probability goes up exponentially.  However, I don't think it will till a couple of months out.

I wish they would have kept it as is this year, then made the jump next year so they could get the road permits to change the course.  Turn it into a first class race, not Eagleman 2.0.

I agree. Cambridge can barely handle Eagleman. I don't think it can handle the crowds of a full blown IM. The current finish line set up for Ches. Man can not support a 2K plus race. It may be one and done in Cambridge but I think if WTC can pull it off is if they can move it to Ocean City. Plenty of hotels/condos. Perfect time of year. You can stage at the convention center and a boardwalk finish would be neat.

I like the idea of the race moving to OC. I've already signed up so I guess I'm a guinea pig.

I transferred my registration from Louisville because of a training/timing issue. I'm a little concerned about finding a hotel room but couldn't be more excited!! A couple of other friends have signed up; we're coming from Nashville so there will be at least a little representation from outside the mid-Atlantic area!

There are several of us from the South Carolina area that is making the trek up to Maryland to race.

With the hotel issues I am sure they will move it next year as it is crazy not being able to find a room without driving 30 minutes.

Yeah seeing all these hotel issues for a race thats not even sold out yet and I have heard only 1700 slots (nothing factual just what I have heard)

Glad I jumped on one a few days before they even announced IM Maryland, finally a good bet on my part

I was debating signing up for IM Louisville again when I heard that It was going to be IM Maryland. So as of May 17th I am signed up for it. I am unsure about getting a hotel.... I live in Annapolis, only 60 miles away. But we will see as they post more details about raceday.

Where is everyone staying?  I was looking at Maryland for next year but I'm having a hard time getting a handle on the hotel situation.

Not too many hotels in Cambridge other then the host hotel. There are a lot of other towns nearby that will have hotels (MD & DE) and you can also search homeaway.com and some other sites for people who might be renting out their houses. Housing is the one negative with this race but if you are quick to reserve it shouldnt be an issue for you.

I was planning on running ChesapeakeMan so my wife booked a local hotel early. Starting training in January or so for a marathon in March. I just wanted to have one under my belt for 2014 before IM training really started. My last big run was last week and last big ride this weekend. I wish the race was next weekend to get it over and get down to watching football and drinking beer on Sundays.

Saturday 20th - Becoming an IM
Sunday - Cape May Ferry to Atlantic City, NJ - watch football and drink beer with my wife
oh ya - AC stay at a casino and let my wife spend as much money as she wants for putting up with me during this adventure. She's the best
