Can anyone suggest some productive 30 - 40min swim sets? In the past, before Masters and before my coach, I've used Swimplan.com to come up with workouts for me. A free account allows you to enter basic info such as workout duration, pool length, workout feedback based on past workouts from the site if you want something more challenging, the same, or easier. I have ideas of what you could do, but I'm not sure how much time it would take, etc. |

For that quick, keep is simple and productive. 500 wu 5x100 on short interval (find the pace you can maintain throughout all 5 on only 10 seconds rest - so if you're coming into the wall on 1:30, leave every 1:40. these should be really hard) 200 easy 5x100 on short interval 100 cooldown |

Where are the other Texans in this thread from? My first 70.3 was in Austin back in November. Some of the hills down there were killers! We Canucks are taking over!! Justin - where in Texas are you? I'm such a weather wimp that I've actually suggested to Tony that if we move ANYWHERE from Austin, it'll have to be FL, because I can't handle winter anymore! Not that I ever could, but now - definite NO to winter. NO! I'm in Austin & I also did the 70.3... it wasn't a stellar day for me, but we won't talk about that right now... I *think* there's also Katy represented, and there was another Manatee in Austin, but I don't know where he went? Are there other Texas Manatees?? Where in Canada are you from?? I'm from Vancouver & miss it a LOT, but not so much during the wet winter... :D Snowed here this morning Monica I posted this for Monica cause I am in Vancouver you yahoos. She DID live in Chicago for a few years. Ha! I lasted 2 winters in Chicago and that was IT! No more polar vortex crap for this weather wimp! Wow was there a lot of reading to catch up on! I also woke up to a few new Strava friends. I like this group already! I'm originally from Toronto and believe it or not I miss the winters a lot. There's something nostalgic about shoveling snow. Raking leaves all winter just doesn't do it for me. Are any of you on Zwift? |

What does it do? 2.How do I set up an account? 3.How do I join the Manatees group? Thanks It's like facebook for exercisers. Just go to strava.com and setup an account. Chris can add you to the manatees. Follow us other manatees and you'll see our workouts pop up when we do them. You can link strava to your garmin account so that the workouts are automatically loaded into strava from garmin. Strava also has some safety/privacy features including having people request to follow you (so not everyone can see your stuff) and hiding some locations (home address/office/school) from maps. The second feature just blurs it a little bit so people might now my exact street address or whatever. These might make your parents/coach more comfortable. I use them because I usually run alone. I mean, it's right by the police station and I don't feel unsafe or anything but I don't want to invite problems! For the location hiding, I've heard some will put in a bunch of nearby addresses and block out a much bigger area with the overlapping zones. That's an interesting idea. I wanted to point it out in case Connor's parents/coach were uncomfortable. The same holds true for the other Manatees, of course :-) Another good piece of security advice that someone gave me about strava, when inputting your gear, don't put Cervelo P5 (hey everybody, I have a $10k bike!), put just the colors or something to where you can tell them apart (if you have more than one). |

I know I kind of faded out last year towards the end, but I'm slowly starting to get back into the endurance world. I know you guys are closed, but I'll be lurking. Wanted to throw my 2 cents into these two topics: Originally posted by Lighttower I have a quick question. Can anyone suggest a good hardware for strava? I would like to record my swims too. I went the opposite route of a multisport watch. I have a dedicated device for each sport. The Garmin swim does really well for swimming of course. The Edge 500 gives me the fields I need (the 910/310's 4 fields aren't enough for what I like to track). Finally the FR10 gives me just what I need for running: pace and time. I kind of like having specific devices, because it helps me transition into the mindset for that workout (I'm a swimmer, I'm a runner, etc.). That's a good resource! I also picked up the 'Swim Workouts in Binder" which has a variety of types of workout including 30-minute ones, i think? Can't remember, i haven't used it in a while since i pretty much only swim with my group now ... |

Master 4119 Toronto | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2016 So, we had our first swim back from the holidays last night and there was a new guy who it was very clearly his first group swim ever. It was hard not to be annoyed. There is swim etiquette that i guess you have to be around a pool for while to get. He jumped into our lane about 1/3 of the way through the workout and was: 1. Not swimming straight - yikes, it's a bit of a surprised to have someone you're not expecting to be coming right for you ... 2. Not swimming the set with us. At the end of one set i asked him if he was swimming with us and he said yes so i said, we're doing the kick now - and expected him to pick up with us. but he didn't ... and he nearly swam into me again doing the kick after we were done it. I was going to mention to him at the end of the next interval about swimming the set with us but before it got too mangled the coach intervened. I am happy to help new swimmers but it's way easier when you all start together. I am quick to forget what it's like to be new ... sigh. |

Once A Manatee, Always A Manattee (which is why some former Manatees are in the Strava group, etc.) So, yeah, MR Matt, if you could please post your bio... Let's see. NAME: Matt or Mr. Matt as a disambiguation, since there were several Matt's in the group last year, and I got married during the spring "hence the Mr." STORY: Former high school track and football athlete that gained about 50 pounds during college. After about a year of being in the real world I decided I got tired of being the guy that "used to be athletic", so I got back into running. While training for my first half I heard about a local triathlon and said to myself "one day I will do that race". After training up I finished that race and continued to race triathlons for 5 years. Last year I switched to a more road racing focus, which came to an abrupt halt alt after crashing in my 3rd race and separating my shoulder. After that I was pretty down about not getting to actually compete after training really hard for the season, and I began to lose my desire to race or train. I took the beginning of winter as an opportunity to start fresh and work my way back to being fit. I went through a cycle of the Trainerroad Sweet Spot Mid Volume I plan, and saw really good results. I'm starting to add some intensity now and look forward to progressing. FAMILY STATUS: Married with a 3 year old stepson. THIS YEAR'S RACES/EVENTS: The Tour of Sufferlandria is my main early event. I'm not sure what races I'll be doing just yet. I'm kind of leaving myself open ended this year and picking up races that look fun. GOALS/OBJECTIVES/DESIRES: This is a good group of people, and I feel like I'm capable of offering solid insight. |

We've been together since 2008, so it doesn't really feel like it. I joined BT in 2005, have done a couple sprints, but never really felt bitten by the tri bug. Last year I turned it around and started putting in some consistency with my workouts. Now for the 2016 season I'm looking toward a Sprint in the spring, Oly in the Fall, and a few run races. Right now, swimming is my favorite. Sorry to have to end this on a downer, but veteran Manatees will remember that a few months ago my Aunt B was in ICU. She's there again...sepsis.
