Member 836 North Augusta, South Carolina | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! Just checking in, and here's a warning: I'm not very positive a mere 3 weeks into 2021. 1. We are at 100% face to face capacity in my district, even though every district around us is either virtual or hybrid with 50% capacity in class. Thus, I have 24-28 students in every class and if I have to ask one more teenager to pull their mask up, I'm going to lose it. The # of confirmed Covid cases has quadrupled in county, but the way it's reported to the public makes it look very insignificant. I can't get a vaccine fast enough. 2. Dishwasher died over Christmas. A mere inconvenience, but it's just one more thing in the BS that is life. 3. Husband was in a single car accident last Sunday when he blacked out while driving. Super scary considering that he drives 25k miles per year for his job. Lots of testing, lots of questions, some answers and LOTS of money. The ambulance & ER visit caused us to hit our deductible and out of pocket max within 7 hours. The plus is insurance now has to pay for everything the rest of 2021. I'm going to go to every doctor possible this year that I can! 4. In said wreck, DH's truck, which he bought in Nov, was totalled. Since we'd only made 2 payments on it, he was upside down on the load about 2k. So we get to keep making payments on a vehicle we don't have. 5. James, the eldest 4-legged fur kid, has lung cancer. He visited the oncologist this past week and goes back for an ultrasound and biopsy in 2 weeks. 6. Zink, the baby fur kid, is showing signs that the surgery he had in April for luxating patella, might be failing. Either that, or he tore a cruciate ligament. 7. The air-conditioning went out on my car last Wednesday . I feel like we're just hemorrhaging money right now. The positives: Husband is alive and will heal. My mountain bike gives my brain a chance to not think about items 1-7 above. Pity party over. ? to you all. |

Nancy, feeling you on the dog pain. This is the first time in my life I have not had a dog. I do hope they can figure out what happened with your husband. As for school, we have also been in-person but most but most classes are around 18-22 because so many opted for online only. Due to the size of my room, I can only fit around 18-20 at 3' apart and I have been lucky in that my biggest class is only 18 right now. Next 9 weeks I'm supposed to have the larger classes that are around 22-25. If those numbers stay where they are I will ask for a different room or I will walk. Funny about the mask thing. The kids who started in-person at the beginning of the year have always been great with their masks. The kids who started the year online but have returned to in-person because they did nothing online or because their parents changed their minds never wear their masks correctly. I flat out told a few of the students in one class that this was their last warning. After that if I saw their nose or mouth I would send out of class. In my 31 years I sent maybe 5 kids out of class total. I'm not wavering on this. Finally, teachers here will not be getting vaccinated until the end of February-beginning of March because of the vaccine shortage. We are all hoping this changes before that! |

Sending hugs Definitely, i think you've had your fill! Glad you can take the positives - and i wouldn't sniff at a broken dishwasher (I mean, in view of car accidents and pet illness, i can see your point) - i have said so many thanks to my dishwasher for its continued service - it is actually the one appliance that really makes all this isolation manageable for our family. I am sure i would have lost it a lot sooner if I had to hand-wash all the dishes. So here's to getting it fixed quickly and having one less thing to worry about. |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! Originally posted by BlueBoy26 Wow, what a relief for you, congratulations!!Good news. We won a bib yesterday for a house. My wife saw it pop up as a new listing and spent all day trying to get ahold of our realtor. The relator finally got back with her late that night and said she would try to set something up for us to see it that weekend but when she got with the selling agent they said they had 10 viewings the first day and 10 offers so they wouldn't make a viewing appointment with us. They did let our relator go over and do a video with her phone to send to us. So we made an offer $15K over list an hour later. The sellers debated for 4 hours between our offer and another offer, but we got it. My wife and kids drove 6-1/2 hours down this morning to see what we are buying. They will be there for home inspections tomorrow and then drive back. I am so happy to be through that. I will have two tracks within a mile of where I live as well as a community lap swimming pool. I think the closes place to do any outdoor cycling like I am used to is about 25 minutes away (no bike lanes or shoulders on any of the roads closer than that). I have already found about 30 Strave Segments within a few miles of me. Things should be exciting. So I am giving up long open roads for cycling but gaining lap swimming pools, 400m tracks, and Strava users on the same running paths as me. |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! Yesterday I needed a change of pace so I got out the cold weather gear and went kayaking! Ah, it was such a renewing experience - getting away, just me and nature. Saw 2 bald eagles, 2 kingfishers, Canada geese, cardinals, and some great blue herons as I was loading up to leave. Today has been high excitement: we needed to call the police about a sick skunk roaming about. I noticed it earlier in the day; it was uneasy on its feet, occasionally staggering and falling, wandering about in broad daylight, not behaving in normal skunk behavior patterns. He (the officer) ended up calling backup and they finally moved it away from houses to a farmer's field and were able to dispatch it. I heard 2 shots, not sure if they each took a turn or what but thankfully the skunk is no longer a danger to itself or others. It was a big bugger, too. The birds are chowing heavy at the feeders ahead of the crapola weather that is supposed to hit tonight into the next few days. |

1731 Denver, Colorado | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! Originally posted by glfprncs Just checking in, and here's a warning: I'm not very positive a mere 3 weeks into 2021. ? to you all. Oh, I am so sorry about all of these.... I am thankfyl your husband is OK, and I hope for a quick and painless recovery! I have no words about your district's decision........ |

Melanie, I absolutely love your ability to name all the animals you encounter! If it was me: I saw eagles, a red birds, blue birds, small bird and a large one |

1731 Denver, Colorado | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! Originally posted by melbo55 Originally posted by BlueBoy26 Wow, what a relief for you, congratulations!! Good news. Yay! Big congrats! Such a relief...! I love how we (sports people) focus on sports-related aspecis of new homes... haha All my non-athletic friends, when they buy a house, they will talk about the number of bedrooms, yard, and where the nearest Starbucks is. When I was looking for a place to move here, in CO, I concentrated my thoughts on same things as you: biking and running paths/trails... would I be able to bike to work.... nearest pool... nearest climbing gym.... safety on the roads and trails... Priorities!! |

Glad you were able to help get the skunk put out of its misery. |

Rice is one of the things I eat a lot of, but I have starting to have esophageal spasms from eating rice, so I decided to go all of January without rice and may just go off rice completely. Mabey I will so a change in body composition with my no rice diet. :-)
Glfprncs - I hope that next month will be better than last month has been.
Kayaking in January? I am guessing that you weren't practicing your Eskimo Rolls.

I do little challenges every month this year (well, so far I have ideas only until May...) These are: January - no sugar added to coffee and tea (this is horrible... I cannot wait for January to end...!) February - no alcohol (I intentionally picked the shortest month, and also a month with no special events) March - cold showers April - no social media May...? I definitely won't do "no sweets" - I won't be able to make it haha I love sweets too much |

Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Manatees Dooo Eeeet!!! Happy Tuesday, all! Chris and I had a nice talk yesterday. Unsurprisingly, we talked about gravel bikes. He asked what I was looking at. I am clueless. I mean, I know that I want something to handle wider tires. 33mm is not going to cut it. I know that I need disc brakes. There is not going back from that! I know that I need gravel gearing so that I can get up steep grades on forest roads. Beyond that, though, I fall back on, something that looks good which is a crap criteria for a bike. (I'm using it but I know that it's not a good criteria at all!). |
