Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We're off! Have a great weekend! And a productive 12 days. I have a short list of to-do's while away, 1) swim in the ocean, 2) drink a chi-chi for Steve and 3) spend at least 2 hours per day at the beach for my best friend LD. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What's up with this? The northeast is getting hammered with snow and I LOOSE POWER IN THE SOUTH!! 50 mile/hr winds and several power lines down. Nasty cold night. So when I turned on the TV this morning (power restored obviously) they are showing the DC area and there is a guy dressed all in black with a reflective vest on running down the road. Couldn't have been anyone we know could it......................? I mean how many die hard training fools live in the DC area? I guess it could have been the mayor. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So its freakin snowing in the Big D today - glad I got in my run last night! I have been kinda under the weather, not really sick, but no energy either... Finally felt more energy yesterday so I got a run in last night. No races or big plans for the weekend for me - going to a conference with my wife in Houston and grabbin some dinner with John and Jarrett! I will report back how horrified my wife is by John :p Going to try to get in a couple of runs over the weekend and probably a solid 2-3hr trainer ride on Sunday... |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have been in a little funk lately. I think it is a combination of things: 1. Time of the year (an the fact that my first tri is so far away (April) 2. Not enough sleep 3. Little progress on losing weight. Having said that, I have not missed a workout in over three months. I make myself do them. This AM was a 7 mile tempo run. I really thought it was going to suck on the TM. Turns out it was great. I think I am turning a corner as I have finished the last two runs feeling almost as fresh as when I started. Both were an hour or less, but I think the ever increasing long runs are making the shorter ones feel easy. So I have to focus on these improvements and just keep at it. Have fun Suzy! Doug |

Doug Hang in there Doug. Don't think your first race isn't until April. Your marathon is in 5 weeks! That is right around the corner in training time. You're doing great. Talk with your coach about how you feel. I'm sure everyone goes through the midway slumps. You are disciplined and strong and it is all coming together. Wait until the weather warms up and we are all sweating like pigs in NC. I'll bet that winter weight will slide right off. Eeeeww - remind me not to run too close to you. ![]() |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() WOW, now I am really excited to go swimming in the ocean. I was afraid of riptides, but now this......sharks? big ones? Sitting in the World Club in Minneapolis waiting for the next flight to board..at least I have internet access and Delta offers Diet Coke (vs the dreaded Diet Pepsi). The day is definitely looking up. fattyfatfat - 2010-02-11 9:03 AM ![]() |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't been able to keep up here lately. For some reason it's been unusually busy at work the last couple of weeks. I'm going to try to get caught up soon! Training is getting there. I've upped my swim schedule from 2x a week to 3x, now I just need to get myself up in the morning to get to the pool. It's a little hard to do when it's dark, cold and snowy. We didn't get as much snow as some of you guys did, but still more than we're used to. On a good note, I heard birds singing outside this morning so I'm taking that as a positive sign. Apparently they're ready for spring too - now if we can just get mother nature to cooperate Back to work - hope everyone is having a good week! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Michelle good luck on the race. Doug: hope the run Monday goes well for you. Given the distances you're running I would think you would be tired. You'll come out of theat funk soon. Once you get racing and see the results of all your hard work. Suzy have a great time racing the sharks.
I finally broke down and bought a trainer yesterday. Elite fluid trainer. Haven't told my wife yet though. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congrats on the trainer Rob! I have learned to love the trainer, and I never thought that was a possibility. It makes getting your training in so much easier. Now you'll have no excuses. ![]() Trevor- Good luck and have fun on your half mary this weekend! Michelle- Have a great race! Doug- Fantastic job on the Mary training, especially on getting in all your training despite being in a bit of a funk. |

I finally broke down and bought a trainer yesterday. Elite fluid trainer. Haven't told my wife yet though. You sound like me... I tend to beg forgiveness rather than ask for permission. ![]() Got to spend much of my night with a sick (vomiting) kid, who was miserable and dying of thirst but unable to keep water down. Not fun. Fortunately he's old enough to veg in front of the TV today, but man I hope he sleeps (and me too). Hang in there, DC folks. There is very impressive TV footage -- stay warm, make soup, bake cookies, and try not to go all Jack Torrance on us... (johnny.jpg) Attachments ---------------- johnny.jpg (3KB - 20 downloads) |

Repeat after me - just because there is snow in the air doesn't mean you have to drive like you are in a glass car... The flakes will bounce of... Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tobey91 - 2010-02-10 11:56 AM Brief vent: I am frustrated by all this snow. We got 30 inches over the weekend and are in the process of getting another 20 inches yesterday and today. All that would be fine in New England (where I grew up), but Washington DC is not prepared for these numbers. Few if any streets are plowed, and those that are plowed have an inch or two of packed snow/ice underneath so the cars are sliding everywhere. I park on the street, but cannot do so because the streets have not been plowed sufficiently widely, and the piles of snow have narrowed the breadth of the navigable roadway if any. I was fine with all of this until ... the gym (which is 3 blocks from the house and I walk to) is now closed because of the snow. I was looking forward to my workout today as a way to get out and get some exercise. And I actually had a session planned with my trainer. But I just got an email from him saying that the gym was shut and he would get fired if he opened it to train me tonight. I am sitting in my office on a lengthy conference call (1.5 hours so far), wishing that I could get out and get some training in. End of rant. Ok. Earth is back on its axis (mostly). Gym reopened today, and spent an hour with trainer doing core work. And I am starting to feel that my core is really strengthening. A month ago, during the same hour long workout I had a hard time holding a side plank (feet suspended on TRX straps) without balancing assistance. Now I am holding the side plank and keeping the other arm extended straight up in the air. Only negative is that I trained with my trainer at 11am. At the end of the session, he asked if he would be seeing me at the gym on the treadmill or on a bike or in the pool this evening. How can I turn down the subtle challenge like that? -William Edited by Tobey91 2010-02-11 12:56 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well....it is official. I have surgery Fri. the 19th on the shoulder. I am going to take Saturday off and start getting ready for Augusta on Sunday. ![]() Thanks to all how have stopped by and checked in on me the last few days. I have really been in a funk....but that is going to fade fast. Work is going better than I could have imagined and that has helped and given the fact that I can't train for a while I should be able to get back active in the MG. You guys are the best and I really hope those of you that have been having awful weather get a reprieve soon....or just join Suzie in Hawaii. ![]() Steve |
