Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) I am happy to report that for the first time this year, I actually feel 100%! Everything calmed down on Friday, and yesterday I was feeling pretty darned good--though there were a few dizzy spells here and there; truthfully, when I just sat back and enjoyed those, it wasn't all bad! Today, I am feeling GREAT! Clint and I went out for an 'urban hike'--i.e. we went to our local flea market/auction--its a fairly large place, and we walk through ALL of it, so it was a nice 3 hours on the feet. Tomorrow, I hope to FINALLY get out for a decent run. I have to laugh a bit, as its all over the news here how TERRIBLE our weather is right now--its been reported that 2013 was one of the driest years in California, and December was the most dry December EVER in California's reporting history--It looks like January is doing the same--we haven't seen rain in...well, I don't remember when it last rained here! Usually, January is our wettest month...In any case, we are under drought control, being ordered to cut water usage by 50%. And of course our local swimmin' lake, Folsom is merely a puddle right now--at 15% of capacity, to the point that you can see the old Mormon settlements that had been there WAAAAY before it became a lake. The funny part is that people are all fussy about 'not having a winter' and how terrible this weather is. Yeah--no. Our weather for most of December through today and into the foreseeable future has been lows of 38-40 F and highs of 65-70 F--with massive amounts of sunshine. In other words, the type of weather people DREAM about! It has been beautiful here...As for the water, it sucks, but if we didn't send the majority of our water down to SoCal, we would probably not have these issues...just sayin'. Anyway, I just wanted to share. |

I am happy today....ran a total of 6 miles yesterday with another 3 miles walked for Meg's Miles. Ran to warm up for Boot Camp today and got another 2 in. My legs feel pretty decent. No major whining from any part of them......I haven't fallen back in love with running---more like a friend who burned me bad that I kind of hold at arms distance while we get reacquainted---but I don't hate every minute of it.
That water thing is crappy. Must be strange seeing the old settlements where it should be lake. Edited by QueenZipp 2014-01-19 3:29 PM |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Judi - I'm glad you and running are on better terms. I knew it would come back and I am hopeful that it does so quickly. A fun day in WDW yesterday for us. I have to review the GPS of the trip I think iust was about 9 miles of walking. Then this morning started in church, with Kirsten, Yanti, Kate, Judi, Jen, and so many more on my mind. And this afternoon I got my run in for #megsmiles. Late, but not forgotten. Today truly is a good day. Now if the Broncos win, it will get better! I hope everyone is good and enjoys the long weekend, if you get one. |

A good day, indeed, except for the current performance of the Broncos. That's a LOT of miles! I wonder why so many park attendees don't look more fit, at least when we were there with the kids a couple years ago... Well wishes and passing what little good Karma I have amassed along to those who need it this weekend. Matt |

We have seen the settlements before, but usually you can't walk up to them and explore stuff--lots of nifty stuff too--square nails, hardware bits...it is very surreal...I have a tri there in early May...I do hope there is water by then, other wise that first transition will require a mile run! |

Master 2238 Dallas | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Ran the 3M Austin Half Marathon today, no expectations but to finish and of course I wasn't fast. The day was great and full of PRs (not my case since I haven't trained since September) and I found some inspiration while running. Felt good to be in the pack, felt good to be alive. On Saturday I had a good ride with friends and maybe this is the beginning of my 2014 season. Thanks for all the support! E |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Hiya sweet Manatees. Really appreciate all your kind thoughts. And as usual chuckling over things everyone posted, that's a rare and precious thing to me last few days. It's taking colossal effort and mental cheerleading for me to do anything. I don't care enough to get started and I don't have the energy to do it. Stared at the screen for 10min before posting here. As I wrote Stace Face ... other than the liquidity, blood, and mucus, my poop's apparently sterile enough to scrub a floor with! No abnormal organisms. Conclusion: virus. Basically: get better! hope you don't die! So I'm storming the naturopathic trails* like I did when I had the typhoid superbug that was resistant to everything. I do feel marginally better today, at least physically--the stomach cramps aren't quite as painful or frequent, nor is the diarrhea (but still orange colored from red + yellow. Yum).Still have biphasic fever (peaks 2x/day) and then supersoaksweaty chills. Fever not peaking as high, though. Just totally wiped out. Dana the Dobie D-O-G gets her life turned around and returns to G-O-D on Wednesday. I'm going to feel incredibly shytty and regretful no matter what decision I make, so after talking with our vet (Dr. Daisy, goes nicely with the D's), bro, sis, and even Mutti ... this is it. One of Mutti's caretakers will sleep by her door each night, and we're re-wiring some lights to be on all the time (she has this thing about turning all the lights off everywhere, but then stumbles around in the dark). Also putting a baby gate with a bell at the top of the stairs. She'll just love that. Oh well. *Foods: as much as possible all whole, home-made foods. Quality beef & liver (gotta get the iron up, fastest way to do it, and though I'm still nauseated by most food, and especially animal foods, I'm not throwing up). Enormous amounts of garlic and onion. (And ginger, ginseng, and turmeric.) Yoghurt. Manukah honey. *Supplements: fish oil. Probiotics that aren't in the yoghurt. Multivitamin. Astaxanthin. Some locally-made enzyme complex that also has BCAA's (what the hell, it's cheap and can't hurt). If anyone has any other suggestions or ideas, I'm all ears. Damn. It also took about 20min to write this post! P.S. Oh, and yoga. There's actually this series of yoga asanas specifically for elderly/recovering persons that I did a lot of backtyphoidwhen, so I'm taking those back up again. Deeply relaxing and healing.

I needed some head space to be sad for a while. I'm feeling a bit better and Phil gets home tomorrow so that will be sad but good at the same time. My mum and dad are just the most wonderful parents and true blessings from God. They were on holiday last week about 300k (200 mile) from me. Anyway instead of going home on Saturday as they had originally planned they decided to go home via my place even though it added an extra 500+k to their trip and I will be at their place for work next week. Initially they said they had stuff to do up here but they didn't they just didn't want me to be by myself for the weekend. I can't remember if we made a day to check in for JOGO or not, but I will get my head around that later this week if that's ok. |

Member 2098 Simsbury, Connecticut | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014--CLOSED (begging & bribes MAY work) Originally posted by IndoIronYanti MAN oh MANatees ... I'm having a hard time here. Breathe, breathe. One day at a time and I only have to do today what I can do today. Bare minimum is fine. Last over the line is still called "triathlete" Depressed (not sad/blue/down) ... very common with protracted illnesses and whatever this one is, it's likely causing depression directly as well (it's actually one of the diagnostic criteria for a lot of the nasty tropical illnesses). My iron's low. That can't be helping, either. In a quandary about Mutti's dog, who I'm still taking care of (wound care, which as many of you know is detailed and taxing) and hauling around to the tune of 1.5 hours a day, and also spending time petting and interacting with her. She's around 15yo, which for a large purebred dog is ANCIENT. Anyway, she's gotten to the point where she can't use her hind end anymore and has lost bladder and bowel control, but is otherwise quite robust. But if I'm not here, there is NOBODY to actively care for the dog (she'll get fed but that's it). Do I put her down? Get or make her a dog wheelchair and make her an indoor dog? Mutti pretty much lives for the dog, and I seriously fear for her well-being if there's no dog. Mutti's declining, too. I know it is inevitable with Alzheimer's; it's just that every day seems to be a new challenge and I don't feel like I can leave. Very early this morning she kept coming into my room, so I finally got up and followed her and asked her what she needed. She insisted that someone had woken her up and told her that Pa (my deceased father) needed help, and so she had to go find his "machine" and get it to him. I tried to reassure her that everyone was fine and that everything had been taken care of, but she was resolute that she had to do this thing, and refused the gentle suggestion that this may have been a very vivid dream. Usually if I slightly change the topic or can get her focused on something else, she'll completely forget what was happening before. Didn't work this time. I sat with her for quite a while and she was getting very annoyed with me and would not be deterred. I finally told her, as gently and kindly as possible, that Pa had passed away nine months ago. She was absolutely dumbfounded, in shock and grief, both for Pa and then that she couldn't remember. I suppose it's a great blessing that, until now, this has not happened--she was always aware Pa had died, and was able to go through a grieving process. And chances are, she won't remember any of this later in the day, but will go right back to recalling that he is in fact dead. But for a good half-hour there, she was as devastated as if he'd just died, with the added panic of knowing that she's losing her mind. She was clinging to me and sobbing, and kept saying, thank you for being here. I'm so glad you're here. A lot of the time now, she also thinks I'm my sister. Anyway, I just can't imagine if Mutti had to go through something like this morning by herself. Her caretakers are capable of handling it--they would probably do exactly what I did--and these moments will only increase in frequency and severity, as they have been. I just don't feel like I can leave. I don't know what to do. Yanti I was actually thinking of you over the weekend - hoping you are feeling better. I'm so sorry you have so much on your plate right now. You are truly amazing and such a strong person! You continue to be in my thoughts. Make sure you take care of YOU in all this. I know that you are doing the right thing for her. It's always tough to be in that position. Kate, so glad that you are feeling better! Sorry about the water restrictions. That sucks. Judi, yeah for running again! Ernesto, congtrats on the HM. Looking forward to hearing more about it! Monica, great job on the XC skiing! Since you were on the podium, we will be expecting a race report :-) Chris, WDW sounds fun! Hey, did your weekend synchronization project happen? Results? Also, do you have abbreviations in your Manatee translation list? You know, HM, DW, DS, HIM, M pace, TW and so on and so forth? Stacey, your parents sound *wonderful!* What a thoughtful thing they did for you. Even reading about it felt like a hug! And it's good that Phil will be back soon. Kirsten, any updates on your brother? Is he recovering OK (I mean, all things considered). I was kind of thankful that at least he was at the doctor's office when it happened. As for me -- lots of running. Attended a barista competition. Sample the product. ;-) Went to a Hurricanes game on Saturday (let Kevin use my ticket to take a friend last night). What else? House of Cards (yeah, we're slow). Off today for MLK day (university closed, next holiday is Memorial Day so I'd best make the most of this one!) |
