I took a well needed run tonight--3.46 miles in 40 minutes. I was quite the busy Kate at work today--the pump for our koi tank died over night, so I had the fun job of moving 9 koi to their other pond....after we drained an manually cleaned all of the nasty, scummy pond crud out of it. Mind you, catching the fish involved me standing on a slight ridge next to a 4'8" wall to use a skimmer net to grab in a tank that is 4 feet deep and about 8 feet wide and long.....not fun. My arms and shoulders are kinda pizzed. and the children who were "helping" me (by shouting out instructions)did not make it easier. In any case, later on I got to tear down and rebuild the tomato frog exhibit...and remove all the cockroaches who had taken up residence in it....BLECH! Hate cockroaches!

My mom is doing well...no pain or issues from her fall--so life is normal (as it can be) for her-- I'll take it!

And as a FYI--If any manatees have heard about the killing of the giraffe at the Danish Zoo--and the ensuing hubub surrounding it, I know the story and surrounding reasoning and will be happy to answer any questions.

Yes I've heard it.  Whilst it might have been necessary, the manner in which it was carried out is disgraceful.

WARNING A RANT IS ABOUT TO FOLLOW!

I got an email at work today that included the following:

Despite our previous conversation your payment just showed up on my account and its $480.60 short! Not to mention late, again. I really hope this is just another one of your many mistakes because if I find out you have withheld money on purpose I will be taking legal action.

Dunno what I can say as its exhausting having to chase up every invoice with you people, this better be in my account asap or I'll be paying your office a visit, in person with my debt collector and if you think that's a threat then try me. I can promise you if I have to come down there it won't be pretty but I will get my money! ...

Oh and I've attached a few other people to this email so they can see the sort of things I'm constantly dealing with, hopefully someone sticks a rocket where it is needed and I will not be doing any more work for XXX unless a deposit is paid in advance as your actions have proved to me time and time again that you simply cannot be trusted.

Disgusted with your weak service, again....

He has sent this email to about 10 people including my national boss. So I look into thinking what on earth have I done. It turns out he has issued us an incorrect invoice (forgotten to add the GST) I have paid the amount on the incorrect invoice and he has received the amount a grand total of 10 days after the invoice was issued, which includes a weekend. Anyway I very politely pointed out to him that we had paid him the amount on the invoice (attaching a copy).

Despite this apparently it is all my fault and I need to take a serious look at myself and the way I conduct business on behalf of our organization and I owe him an apology!

WTF????

Edit - I just got a lovely email from my national boss apologizing to me that I have to deal with such angry and irrational people and I am doing a great job and handled him very well and to issue a notice to all of our branches that this person is not to be used as a contractor again.

Judi, consider yourself hugged again. I believe that your mom's health and welfare have been a bit trying for you recently. That has to have been tough on you. Much like your recent training challenge, I also know that you are tougher than anything that is ahead and you will do whatever you can to help her. I will be keeping you in my prayers.

Stacey, how cool that management (especially the upper most people) are supporting you?!?! If more businesses could learn to run in this way, we'd all be in a better place. Keep up the good work!

Nice swim this morning, 5:30am and an empty pool for the first time in months. I love outdoor pools, I don't think I could swim indoors any more!

I did a few sets of barbell curls yesterday and could feel it during the paddle set, hadn't really thought about using your biceps for swimming but I suppose they engage during the pull phase? I was joined by a couple of lifeguards in their work Speedo's, shame I didn't have a Gopro to film it for all the ladies in the MG!

It's cool. I've got you covered and these guys uncovered ... for the moment. Don't think you'll get out of posting shots of yourself. We have our ways.

OMG!  That contractor is just...  Well, anyway, glad that the national director both recognized you for handling the situation so well and saw that your organization doesn't need to be working with hot headed people (who are not very detail oriented!) like that contractor, the jerk.

Popping in to say hi and that I likely won't check in anymore today because I don't want to accidently see any hockey conversations/scores/etc.  I am DVR-ing (PVR-ing for you Canucks) the game and would really, really like to watch it not knowing the outcome.  I'm serously considering putting a sign on my cubicle at work telling people not to discuss the game with me.  I want to go into isolation.  Chances are very good someone will talk and ruin my plan - all the prior games have been 'ruined' in this way!

GO USA!!!

I listened on the way to Masters this morning, and then checked the score after swimming.  Wish I could've watched.  That is all I will say for Mel's sake.

Did the first half of my ride today watching this, and my wattage might have been less steady than it could have been...  Canada was hustling better than US and deserved the win today (wow - a lot easier to say that, even if it's true, when there is not a medal on the line!!!).    So, congrats to them!  No war.

The game felt closer than the score (which was as close as it could be, I suppose - but not for the whole game), and I think too much was made of momentum shifts, as it often is.  Momentum matters within a game, but I don't think it often carries over much (just my opinion).  Both of these teams are great.  Both have beaten the other (and lost).  Both are in the OLYMPICS and will definitely show up when they meet again.

I really hope they meet again, as I think THAT game will be the best on the ice this year (at least I hope so).

I just hope the refs decide to show up, as well.  WTF was up with the officiating?  Really shoddy (almost shamefully so, for such an important venue).

As for non-Olympic hockey, we've been having one of the best weeks in all of hockey here in Boston.  BEANCUP, BABY!!  And one of my degrees is from BC.

OK, back to tri:  I hate the trainer.  Just sayin'...

Matt

Update:  Mom is having an endoscopy this morning so we should have better info this evening or tomorrow.....she wants everything done....surgery, cpm, tube feeds the whole 9 yards.  For a woman who derives most of her pleasure from eating I am not certain I understand her decision but I will honor it....

Kate - SO happy to hear about your mom... I keep waiting to see news about the possible job change!  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good news

Mel - don't check my training blog today - SPOILER ALERT!

JJ - you're going to kick arse at the 140!  Go get it!!!

Stacey - It's SO nice to hear that your boss is backing you up, that contractor needed to GO - what a jerk!

Ashley - glad you're feeling so much better!

Yanti - wow... what a great view!

[Sappy alert!] Can I just say how glad I am to have a great group of people in this mentor group?  It doesn't matter what's going on in each of our lives, the support from everyone makes my heart happy.    [/end sappiness]
